The chest is quite substantial ... moreand sturdy; it measures 40" long x 21" deep x 22 1/2" high. It is of quality construction. And in very good to excellent condition. The chest is made of solid rosewood. And not veneer, and is finished on all 4 sides plus top; with a cedar lined inside. The style is classic with subtle Asian touches evident in the brass latch hardware. And the feet of the chest. There are no carvings. The hardware is solid brass. It has a classic look. Never goes out of style, mixes well with modern or traditional decor. Could be used at the foot of a bed, for a coffee table, a TV stand, and many other uses. Condition: a few minor nicks and scuffs. But overall very good to excellent. No water stains. There is some minor shrinkage to the floating panels(top and sides) that seems to self adjust with more humidity as the weather changes. I am not the original owner but was told the chest was purchased at Marshall Fields in the 1950s. I do not have a receipt or any written confirmation of this. It has the numbers 49-224-1015 painted on the bottom. Also has the number 12 stamped on the back. There is a sticker on the back that says Bekins pc no 207 looks like an auction sticker to me. The lock is stamped with 129- T7. Made between 1928-1943.

Incredibly gorgeous antique cedar chest in good shape still smells like cedar!
Gorgeous cedar chest that managed to make it across the country from South Dakota to this basic area. It has a mate that puts it solidly in the Victorian era. In very good condition given the age of the item and the fact that there is plaster and fabric and colors that fade. Very sturdy construction. Missing one caster from the bottom. And does not have key to lock so lock does not work. Clasps are in good working order, however. It also still has its leather handles, something the other trunk does not have. Cedar Chest - beautiful antique in excellent condition
Beautiful antique cedar chest in very nice condition. Made by Caswell Runyan Cabinet Makers in Huntington. IN. Measures 45 inches wide by 19.5 inches tall and 19.5 inches deep. Detail includes carved feet(see pictures) Fairly lightweight and easy to move. Would make a great coffee table and/or storage that protects wool clothing and blankets from moisture and moths. All original hardware, but the key was lost long ago(which is safer anyway if you have kids. Only a few minor surface scratches typical of something its age, and one small chip on the front left edge, but none are obvious blemishes that would effect its value.

The chest also contains an old jar with raised letters McMurray's Absolutely pure baking powder. This jar is half full of old buttons. Also included are an old very delicate white cup and pitcher. 4 old spools of thread an old baby spoon and tiny picture frame silver back are also included.
