Made by David Andersen circa 1920. This is a beautiful silver two handled bowl bearing the maker's mark for David Andersen used between 1888 and 1925. The bowl has a flat rolled top rim above gently curving sides and it stands on a round pedestal base. The bowl has two superb curved rectangular handles. Each decorated with black guilloche enamel'+' and'=' motifs with a square panel to the centre with white guilloche enamel motif and a black oval enamel ring. The bowl is 6-3/4 inches/ 171 mm wide across the handles and 5-3/8 inches/ 137 mm in diametre. It stands 2 inches/ 50 mm high and weighs 125 grams. The underside has clear hallmarks- 830S and N and the ... moremaker's mark used by David Andersen between 1888- 1925. The bowl is also stamped'6330/135' The bowl is in excellent condition with no dents. Damage or repair. The enamel is without chips, cracks or damage. AKSEL HOLMSEN NORWEGIAN SILVER & GREEN GUILLOCHE ENAMEL DOUBLE LEAF BROOCH
On offer is a pretty piece of silver jewellery from the Norwegian studios of Aksel Holmsen in the form of a pair of long leaves in green guilloche enamel and with a gilt wash. Founded in 1932 in Sandefjord. Norway, Aksel Holmsen jewellery is noted for its high quality finish and is highly collectable. I'm guessing that this piece dates to the 1950's or 1960's but this is my opinion only and is based on limited experience. Markings: the back is stamped with the mark for Aksel Holmsen followed by 925S. Above this are stamped the words Sterling and Norway. Approximate size: 63mm(2.5" long. 8.6g total weight. Condition: there is a little damage to the enamel at the base of the leaves. Nothing major. The silver is gilded and has tarnish and fine wear which could be removed with careful cleaning. HM SOLID SILVER/GUILLOCHE ENAMEL 'ROYAL NAVY' SWEATHEART LADIES COMPACT- 1936
Here we have a ladies solid silver English hallmarked compact with a guilloche enamel top that features the Royal Navy crest. Pleas e view all of the pictures as to condition/hallmarks. Hallmarks on the inner base consist of the makers mark'JWB' for J W Benson Ltd. The lion denoting sterling silver, anchor for Birmingham, and the date letter' M' for 1936. Also engraved'G IEVES LTD. 21 OLD BOND ST' so presumably retailed by them. They were a very important supplier to the Royal Navy and Royalty; the shop was destr oyed in the London blitz of 1940. Back t o the compact- it's about 7.9 cms in diameter. It weighs just short of 100g. CO NDITION Pro s- hinge is fine. The clasp opens and snaps shut. The mirror is in excellent condition. Cons- the en amel is covered with small scratches. They don't show u p too well ... morein the pictures. It may be possible to polish them out, but I'm not sure. The engine turned base has a number of shallow dents, again not clear from the pictures. There are two small dings to the silver rim. See picture 4, re s ulting a a tiny loss of enamel. No powder puff? A good quality piece. Obviou sly loved. Treasured and well used by the owner. Who was proba bl y gifted it by a member of the Royal Navy just prior to WWII. Antique Swiss 935 Sterling Silver Gilt & Guilloche Enamel Dish circa 1920
Superb Antique Swiss Sterling Silver Gilt& Guilloche Enamel Trinket or Pin Dish from Geneva c. 1920 This Superb Antique Pin or Trinket Dish measures approximately 3 7/ 16 inches or 88 mm across the width or diameter of its rim from side to side and it stands a fraction under 1/2 an inch or 12 mm tall to the top of its rim. The dish is made from.935 standard sterling silver in a circular shape with raised sides and it has been completely gilded or gold plated. The back of the dish has been superbly engine turn engrave decorated and the front of the dish has a wonderful lilac coloured guilloche enamel decoration of a country river scene that is in the center of a decorative outer border. The dish has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram and the back of its body has been impressed with the Swiss silversmith ... moreor makers mark that looks like GAG over the letters FBE(fabrique) GENEVE and it has the Swiss.935 standard sterling silver mark all as photographed below, I estimate that this dish was made circa 1910- 1930. The condition is used and near Mint for its age. The Guilloche Enamel Decoration is in Mint Condition with No Chips. No Cracks and No Surface Scratches. The Dish has No Dents. No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and it has No Repairs that I can find, the dish stands straight. The definition and decoration is very crisp, the gilding is still a good colour with minimal wear, the Swiss silver and makers marks are still legible although as this is a used antique pin or trinket dish it does have some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this antique trinket or pin dish can still be used today and that it would make a superb addition to any cabinet collection.
