This is a beautiful guilloche enamel on silver fruit set by Henry Clifford Davis of Birmingham. UK. Included are six forks and six knives in a fitted case with velvet and satin lining. Each item is marked HCD in conjoined circles. The knives are marked stainless Made in England. The set is in lightly used condition. Please see the pictures for a few minor imperfections. One fork is separating from the handle and would require gluing. There are no other markings on the set other than the HCD. The case has some scruffs and wear on the edges. An Austro-Hungarian silver enamel snuff box. The guilloche enamel is in a wonderful green on all sides of the box. The rim of the box is engraved delicately. On the top. There is an erotic depiction of a female nude, which I think is a cameo. The inside is richly gilded. Both the box and the lid are hallmarked with Diana's head(1867- 1921) with 2 for 900 silver and A for Vienna. Also. There is a maker's mark GSt most likely for Georg Steinbach(1901- 1924) I tried to depict one minor trace making visible that the box was used in its lifetime. A beautiful set. Fully hand-painted enamel with guilloche surrounds in an apricot pink. Each piece features a different romantic gentry garden scene painted in the Austrian manner. The large dresser jar measures 4 ½ inches by 3 1/8 inches tall. The glass is thick. Cut and polished crystal in a fluted panel design on a ground polished foot. The condition is excellent. I think the pictures will better describe this listing than I am able to. As all I can say is that this is a JWB hallmarked compact with the date letter B is a top and bottom notched square which I believe dates it to 1951. The sprung button for opening and the hinge are both operating perfectly. The anchor denotes that it was assayed in Birmingham. This is a rare octagonal design with what I believe to be a Navy badge on the front, and a quite similar item ended at over 200 pounds in the last few weeks. I am starting at an exceptionally reasonable 65.00 pounds and there is no reserve. The reason for starting low is the following areas of damage. 1) Cracked Mirror 2) Dent to machined silver back 3) One chip corner to the enamel 4) Light surface scratching to the surface of the enamel. I am sure the mirror is easy to replace. But I am not ... morean expert in the other areas. Please view the pictures and make your own mind up. French GUILLOCHE ENAMEL VASE with beautiful design in copper TRANSLUCENT YELLOW
Here is a very beautiful Guilloche engraved copper vase with incredible yellow translucent enamel. It reminds me of the Japanese style of ginbari. But much more European in influence. I believe this vase to be French, but I have seen examples in the George Walter Vincent Smith Museum that were Japanese in origin. There was a lot of exchange of ideas in the Meiji period and the French and Japanese were heavily influenced by each other. I would date this vase to the late 19th centruy to early 20th century. It stands 4" high and 2" across the widest point(10.16cm by 5.08cm) There is one little bump to the metal top, but it is barely noticeable. Also one small pinhead size repair to the bottom enamel. The detail of the roses& leaves against the blue enameling is simply gorgeous. I did not find any marks on it but it has been tested& is positve for silver. It is very heavy weighing 21.9 grams. The dabber is perfectly intact& the top screws on as if it were new. There is a lovely rose at the top of the dabber which I have tried to photograph the best I could. This cushiony rectangle shaped earring face is elegant with ... morelate Edwardian flowers and early Art Deco geometric motifs. The framing edge has finely reeded lines with tiny five petal forget me not flowers in each corner; all is crisp with a snowy white enameling. It encircles a center cartouche embossed with more reeding and four delicate fleur de lis set at the compass points. This striking inner design is rich with a lovely lilac enameling. All of these underlying patterns all the more lively and showing real depth because of the kiln fired glass enamels. A beautiful Art Deco guilloche enamel cigarette case. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1938 with the makers marks being FF for Frederick Field. It has been stylishly designed have a light(sky) blue to white guilloche enamel front with an engine turned back. The inside has been richly gilded. It is in super condition. The silver is free from dings splits and repairs- just the odd faint mark. The enamel free from chips cracks and repairs- no significant scratches. The inside is clean and the hinge very smooth. It measures a touch over 3.25 inches(8.5cms) by a fraction under 2.75 inches(6.7cms) and weighs of 93 grams. A superbly made very high quality piece. Of sterling silver that has been gold washed with the handles each clad in a different color enamel. The neck ends in a chevron to start the enamel.
