German Medal for Veteran WWII. Unusual.
This item arrives for auction from my late Step-Father who actively participated in Partisan Warfare during WWII. We both shared a great interest in Military History and that became obvious in our collecting and library. I have not another one like this one less similar to it and further, in twenty three years I have never seen anything like it. Is post 1945 for veteran's issuance as a mini and a real"Curiosa" if you will; when we decided to place it for auction I took a detailed look at it as per to describe it best. The ribbon was tested in long and short wave black light and it remained neutral as per no glow at all, the metals utilized is silver in the 800 to 900 grade in a cast form not a stamped piece. Sterling came out positive for the very neatly applied suspension ring behind the oak leaves, I also have noticed that ... morethe sword's hilt that meet the crossing blade are cut somehow which also an unusual detail. Patina is beautiful and the markings that I can see on the reverse are L12 and 138. that number was for the Commander of the Division, there is another number that appears to be 800 also behind the oak leaves. Everything here is neat and tight, I also noticed that even the metal hand embroider and the fibers within such metal thread did not glowed up under black light like other fibers, textiles I have encountered. My step father personally fought this German Division during WWII. He knew four of it's Commanders and after the war ended he felt a grave disappointment over our"Allied" Joseph Stalin, the Cold War that followed showing it's true face during the Korean conflict as an intro. We offer for your bidding pleasure this absolutely incredible grouping from the First World War. The grouping consists of the following. The Award Document for an Iron Cross 2 nd class. The original Iron Cross, is maker marked KO, for the Königliches Münzamt Orden. In Berlin. The Königliches Münzamt Orden translates to The Kings Maker/Minter of Medals, which means that this Iron Cross was an official medal issued by the Emperor, Kaiser, etc. The overall condition is good\ and it comes with the original section of the ribbon. The original award document itself is worth more than the Iron Cross due to the fact that very few survived. The document had to be carried in person and had to be available to show that the soldier was eligible to wear the Iron Cross. As you can see in the photos the document is a bit on the rough ... moreside, it has some splits etc. that have been repaired, some vintage, and some more modern with scotch tape(ARGH! I can’t stand it when this happens! The award document awards on behalf of the Army and the Kaiser, Karl Antoine(sp? Of the 4 th company of the 389 th Infantry Regiment das Eiserne Kreuz II. Klasse(the Iron Cross 2 nd class) At division command on the 13 th of May 1918. Signed in ink, General Tappan, commander of the 15 th Infantry Division. The photo. Shows the recipient, and on the back you can see in the photos that this was given to someone after the war named Willie Hermann by Karl, stating he was in WW1 and in Inf. Rgt. 389. The wording appears to have been written over a couple of times, why this is I have no idea, it is pretty shaky, so I’m guessing Karl was old when he gave this to Willie. I have been collecting named groupings since I was a teenager, and I have had probably a total of maybe 15 over the last 30+ years that I have purchased from the vets or their families, and they are really hard to come by, I think I have only 4 or 5 left. FREE SHIPPING(1st Class with Delivery Confirmation) Original Imperial German"Flag Nail" Hand engraved badge, stating: Gewd. u. Kreis Krieger Verein Kattowitz 19. Juni. 1904. Measures approximately 3 1/4" high and curved to fit around a flag pole. Separately affixed Imperial Crown. Hollow die stamped with great detail. Gilt overall except the central shield. Most of the gilt has been worn away from the high points. Someone has scratched the gilt on the reverse, probably to ascertain whether the base metal is silver(which it very may well be) 4 nail holes for mounting. Great design with oak leaves on one side and laurel on the other. Looks its age. Flag Nails were used by veteran and military groups in Germany to decorate the regimental and unit flag poles.
