Nice French Lick Indiana historical pieces from Ralph McCampbells hardware store. This nail apron has stenciled on it: McCampbell& Sons Phone 24 French Lick Indiana and due to the phone number would date this at 20's to 30's. The memorandum book has a calendar inside the back cover with the years 1937 and 1938. Ralph McCampbell hardware store was located on Indiana Ave and College St. in French Lick Indiana. He purchased the store from Rolla Claxton in 1927. Ralph also had interest in the Star Store that was located on the corner of Maple and Main St. Ralph McCampbell was born in 1887 and died in 1950. This booklet contains several pages filled with pencil notations of dollar amounts. Dates and who owed money and who he owed money too. Names mention in the book are: Mr& Mrs Griffin, Alabama Buck, Mr. William Haywood, Minnisota ... moreThompson, Mrs. Hunt, Mr. Bennett, Mr. Goodman Gramma Wells, George Qualdinbush, George Fisher, Mr. Reineke, and a few others I can't make out. In permanent standing position, has got original dark orange and black glass eyes, black horizontally stitched nose, inverted Y shape mouth stitching, original pads recovered long time ago with cloth. A beautiful genuine vintage 1920s wedding tiara headdress. Made from silk wrapped wire, wire net wrapped circlets emulating leaves, glistening wax buds and flowers. The wax flowers and wax buds are in very good condition bearing in mind their great age. The netting is many places does not wrap around the wire circlets nowadays, although the whole effect is of very pretty faded grandeur- just so lovely. French CELLULOID with inlaid metal scrollwork compact - circa 1920s
This is a very pretty cream colored celluloid compact with inlaid gold-tone metal scrollwork around the edges. Measures 3& 3/8” across and is about ½” thick. The 2& 5/8” across compact lid has a pastel image of a gentleman serenading two ladies with his lute. While they read their books in a courtyard with a column in the background. The lid has a clear celluloid cover over the scene which is bordered with gold-tone reverse painted designs that replicate the gold-tone inlays on the compact’s cream colored celluloid borders. This is all original– so often these clear celluloid covers were brittle. Broken, removed, replaced…this is clearly the original, as it matches the borders of the compact& is in good condition as can be seen in pix. This example is l arger than most like this; we have two reds and a black compact like ... morethis. But they are substantially smaller than this one. The compact lid is opened by lifting up on the stationary flat metal decorative bar on the front, revealing the round mirror in the lid, set into a rolled metal frame. The base of the compact still has the round fitted loose powder sifter. Made in France" is in raised letters in a circle in the middle of the interior base. There are some hairline cracks to the celluloid edges. Seen from the bottom with a magnifying glass.which do not impair the beauty of this one on display; and the base is bowed up in the middle. The metal scroll-work inlays are all present and in good condition- so often, these pulled up and got torn off. Opens and closes securely, straight and tightly.
