DESCRIPTION Christian Dior 1956 Statement Couture Necklace Clear AB Crystals This dazzling necklace is a rare collector's item made before Dior died and approved by him. I'm certain he changed something because he was extremely detail oriented which both endeared him to his staff and also drove them a bit crazy. The necklace was purchased from and verified by N&N jewelers approximately 7 years ago.N&N jewelers is one of the most prestigious purveyors of vintage costume jewelry in the world. Very few of these pieces were made as Dior was doing his first experiments with Aurora Borealis Crystals. He and Henry Schreiner(who designed for Dior as well as himself) made a trip to Germany and Austria in 1955 to acquire the dazzling Austrian aurora borealis crystals with permission from the Austrians to import them. The trip was also ... moreto bring Christian Dior fashions and jewelry to those countries and expand the reach of Dior. The necklace had no place on it to sign and Dior preferred to tag rather than sign so unfortunately the tag has been lost. But that is no matter to collectors who would take one look at this piece and say Dior. The verification by N&N is also important to this piece's history. I have never seen another like it anywhere. Since Dior necklaces and jewelry were all designed by great designers and put together usually by Cartier artisans at the time Dior was living that makes any piece made during the period of the 1940's through 1959 more valuable to collectors as these pieces were personally approved and usually changed a bit by Dior who died in 1957.
