Here we have a Chinese bronze figure of what I believe to be a boxer holding a flag up high. Maybe made around a hundred years or so ago, certainly the patina on the bronze depicts a good age, maybe the wooden base was added a little later. It came from a private irish collection(see catalogue pictured from the most renowned irish Auction for Chinese artifacts from 2012) This is a guaranteed original approximately 500 year old bronze figure from China. This is a very rare depiction known as'The Birth of Buddha' featuring a Bronze infant Buddha. Also know as Buddha taking his first steps. Just after his birth. Buddha stands upright naked and bald-headed on a round lotus base. Buddha is posed with his right arm and hand pointing to the earth, his left arm is raised and the hand points to the sky. Buddha has a nice serene face with almond-shaped eyes, a pointed nose and smiling mouth, earlobes are slightly prolonged. Clearly seen are his nipples and the navel and the genitals ... moreare unseen. The color of the metal varies from a dark chocolate brown to a green spotted patina which can only be seen on bronzes of this age. The base is hollow and has trace of a black core. This is a great old iron statue of a Sattva or some Buddha figure. Don't really know for sure. It was brought back after WWII and I don't know much after that. I think its from Thailand, but I'm even not sure of that. I was told it was 800 years old. it has quite a patina and seems odd to be made of IRON.
