DESCRIPTION: Fine old bronze Buddha or Bodhisattva from China. Tibet, Nepal or other Asian region. This figure is quite beautiful with a very nice old patina of dark brown. Dark red, greens, etc. He is sitting, holding a bowl in one hand while reaching into it with the other. His head appears to be shaved and he is wearing a simple robe. The statue is nicely cast, with good detail and a fine clear and simple elegant design. I know this Buddha is very old because I bought it over 20 years ago from a contractor who was restoring an old 1850's building in'Old Town' Sacramento. California. ... moreHe found it partially imbedded in the original 1850's brickwork foundation that was being replaced. So, I know it is at least older than the 1850's and it was probably brought from China by an early Chinese worker who came to California during, or just after the Gold Rush. It may be early 19th century, 18th century, or even Ming Dynasty. I don't know how to date it exactly, but to me the simplicity and stylization of the figure indicates Ming sculptural ideas. The photos should help those more knowledgeable to know the age and origin. AGE: Unknown- pre-1860. Possibly 18th century or Ming Dynasty period. CONDITION: Good condition. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: Variations and wear to the surface patina. Much wear to the parts of the foot that the figure sits on. Dark patina and some encrustation to the interior. Overall darkened patina to surfaces. Great wear to the raised surfaces of the figure. Age antique Condition Very good condition overall. No chips or cracks with a very fine appearance. Colour famille rose and yellow with other Maker/ Brand Best Features Stunning Chinese Buddha. Porcelain statue. This piece has been hand painted with much detailing on the figure. The enamels include famille rose as well as many other colours throughout this fine piece. The upper part of the body is also hand painted in stunning blue enamel. This piece has an impressed marking on the base. We think it is of considerable age, most likely 19th century. The head and middle are not glazed/bisque and the clothing on this smiling buddha are hand painted in enamels. Glazed and also show gilded stamps. A highly desirable figure to say the least. I am assuming there were articles of jewelry or things placed around the neck area which wore away the surface wood. It can easily be touched up but I have chosen to leave it for its new owner. This way the underside of the actual wood can be seen and it appears to possibly be rosewood as it has a light pinkish cast. The buddha seems to have quite a bit of age.maybe 18th or 19th century but I am no expert in oriental antiques. Beautiful marble Buddha made in the18th or 19th century or possibly earlier. I did have a certificate of guarantee stating this Buddha is 300 years old but unfortunately i just cannot find it now. It was bought many years ago from an antique shop in Warwick. Warwickshire( selling other Asian antiques) The white marble Burmese buddha is in very good condition for its age with no chips to the Buddha's face or body and only age related wear/ loss to the base he is sitting on. His face is serene and smiling. The Buddha was likely gilded in its earlier life. It measures aprox 150mm in height x 105mm wide.
