Antique c.1900 German Silver Articulated Charm Saluting Soldier Very Unusual
For sale here is a very nice and imagine quite rare little silver charm dating to somewhere around 1900- 1905. And originating possibly from Germany. The charm shows a soldier in uniform carrying a sword- the sword hangs down from his jacket and when you move it with your finger. An arm comes out from inside the charm and salutes. The general look of the soldier gives the impression of Prussia and it came on a ring with some other charms I have listed. Including a charm with a German inscription, so I get the feeling its German in origin. A Germa mark on the cring was dated 1904 so I guess they are broadly contemporary(the uniform style says pre-WWI) Not surprisingly for something so small. It is not marked but tests as silver. The charm is 27 mm tall(not including the ring for suspension) The condition is excellent. No issues. This is a ... morevery nice charm. With a very unusuall action and subject- I haven't seen one like it in 40 years, a nice thing. The design on the front of the bottle is quite art deco. I couldn't get very good pictures. The bottle is very clear with no spots, my photos look kind of spotty. This bottle has a cap like an old lotion bottle or cooking oil bottle. Not a cork. The gold design on the front is worn a bit and it says Bourbon in an art deco square. The bottom from bottom to top of cap measures 8 1/2" to top of bottle measures 7" The diameter measurements of the bottle are 2 6/8" by 2 3/8" The bottle is nice and clean when opened with no detectable odors. Auction i s for these two unusually carved display stands but I don't really know where they are from so I chose Asian antiques. They remind me of Hawaiian items from the 1940s or perhaps Southeast Asia. I'm open to suggestions. They appear to be hand carved with a Greek key design and the wood is quite dense and heavy with a black stain. The feet have been nailed on. Larger one measures 6" in diameter with an inside diameter of 4-3/16" and is 2-1/2" high. The smaller stand measures 4" in diameter with an inside diameter of 2-15/16" and is 2" high. In very good condition with a rather primitive folk art charm. I try to describe my items to the best of my ability. But I can't be an expert on everything. Hi: For your consideration here is a cool unusual lot of six(6) vintage or antique galvanized steel fence post caps! These caps are about 7 1/4" tall. The outside diameter of the base is about 2 1/2" and the inside diameter of the cap opening is about 1 7/8" The more oblong than circular top hole is roughly 2" by just short of 1 3/4" inside diameter. We found no maker name but the caps are marked with what looks like'91-1915' We are not going to speculate as to whether this is a date mark, part number, or something else but these are not modern post caps and they are heavy duty weighing over 1 1/2 pounds each. The photos do the best job of describing the condition in detail, and we have tried to show all details for your inspection. This piece depicts an aztec warrior approaching a sleeping maiden. This entire piece is hammered brass and copper. It is accented with wood and heavily inlaid with malachite and lapis. This is a large piece measuring 32" x 24" We believe that this image depicts the return of Popocatépetl the warrior to his lover Iztaccíhuatl. This mythological tale was created by the Nahua peoples to explain the origins of the volcanos overlooking the Valley of Mexico. The Post Office sent machines to larger post offices to apply these surcharges to their stock of One Cent cards. Human nature being what it is. No doubt some employees decided to create unusual cards. Gee, if I had worked in a post office in 1952, I could see myself doing the same. I can understand how the surcharges could be done on the back and inverted, even those along the side, but this card looks as though some disassembly of the machine was required as there must have been a guide bar or something to prevent this as this is truly a'WTF' card. Unusual and Rare Wagon Canteen with 70% of original cover. LOOK !!
Up for auction is a very rare and unusual canteen with awesome character! One to add to your collection if you collect Military or Western Canteens. I believe this canteen dates from the late 1870's through the 1890's but not 100% certain. Definetaly pre 1900. This canteen measures 9 1/4" across and the same top to bottom. It has two small metal sections on the bottom to set level if sat down. Made with a screw top lid but the csrew top is missing and it has an excellent old cork to hold the liquid in. It appears to be well used and has a old canvas home made covering that also shows repairs to it. It also has the original shoulder strap if you choose to carry it and it is tied in a small knot in the middle. The reverse of the cover is worn apart but still a large majority of it remains. These type of canteens were used in wagons ... moreand hung on the side or in the back when traveling. I have seen similar adapted canteens in museums marked as dual purpose canteens to carry or strap in a wagon. Please bid with description in mind as I am not sure exactly the original purpose was. This is for a beautiful Victorian enamel shilling. The coin has been enamelled and set into a silver spinning mount. The reverse of the coin shows a lovely miniature hand painted image of two cockerels, both sides protected by glass. The silver mount has a rope design for fixing to a chain and the silver carries a full set of English hallmarks dating it to Birmingham 1893 along with the makers initials JC for John Clifford. It is in excellent condition with no dents or wear to the silver and the glass on both sides is smooth. It measures 25mm(1" in diameter x a 35mm(1.3" drop. Very old and large Arts& Crafts Mission style candlestick made of copper and brass. This antique metal candle holder is eight-sided and stands 8.5" tall on a 2.75" diagonal octagonal base. And weighs 1 lb. 5 oz. The shaft is sheathed in copper and the top and bottom rims are brass with utilitarian rivets on four of the sides. The underside is covered in what appears to be old duct tape with the interior of the shaft filled with a material like plaster to give it weight.
