The bowl measures 9 1/2" to the top of the Squirrel's tail and 10" across. I have not attempted to clean this. there is the old patina. The inside of the bowl shows considerable wear from age and use. There are no broken or missing parts. so this could be resilvered and would look great. Henry Wilkinson Co. went into liquidation in 1892 and was taken over by Walker& Hall. Up for auction. We have a beautiful Victorian, silver plate squirrel nut bowl. This piece was made by E.G. Webster of Brooklyn, NY. The hallmark is a spider's web, with a five point star in the center and the letter"W" in the center of the star. Also, the number 329 is stamped under the maker's mark. This is a wonderful piece from a time when everything was elegant. Scalloped bowl with beaded edges and four floral style feet. The squirrel sits on crisscrossed branches eating his nut. There is some minor plate loss in a few places. Mostly, on the underside, inside the feet. A couple small areas on the sides of the bowl also. I have pictured all these places. MERIDEN FIGURAL SILVER PLATE SQUIRREL NUT BOWL AESTHETIC C1880 LARGE VICTORIAN
This is a great Victorian Aesthetic period c1880 figural silver plate nut bowl by Meriden. It is not marked but I have seen the exact piece with the Meridan signature. The piece is quite large and impressive. There is a large cracked open walnut for the bowl with a squirrel holding a nut on the top edge. The base is composed of a lily pad with two figural flowers. There are four twig feet with leaves. The piece measures 11" tall by 9 1/2" by 8" The silver plating is all worn to the base metal. There are no breaks or damage that I see. but there is one of the nuts missing from the bottom that holds one of the flowers in place(so it is loose) This is an easy fix. A squirrel perches on the rim of a cracked-edge acorn which rests on a lily pad; these elements all sit atop a low four-footed base. Ornamental blooms adorn the lily pad whose stem is curled into a handle. Extensive detailing throughout includes the veining of the pad and the scoring of the acorn sides. This is a heavy substantial piece. In good condition. The plate is pretty much gone, leaving an arresting darkened patina. On one edge of the scalloped bowl a squirrel with glass eyes perches cautiously on an oak leaf branch with acorns. The sides of the bowl display an elaborately articulated pattern of alternating hexagonal scales that have a hammered appearance with an elegant fan-shaped element. The bowl sits on a simply adorned footed foundation with a band of beading. In excellent condition. The bowl measures 8 1/2 inches in diameter; stands 8 3/4 inches from tabletop to the tip of the squirrel's tail. Given as an athletic prize in 1917 by the Union Settlement Activities Council, this piece is a terrific artifact of the Union Settlement Association which was founded in 1895 to respond to the desperate conditions of immigrants struggling to make a new life in America. It is marked on the bottom: Quadruple Rockford Silver P Co 2604. The measurements are 10 1/2" to the highest point on the handle. 9" at widest points on the base and the bowl is 6" across. The inside of the bowl is not as shiny as the photos may show. It does show some use. A fluted edge, 2 handles with a squirrel on one of the handles and nuts for the three bowl feet. It's signed/ stamped on the bottom(see closeup photos) This would be a fun piece for the holidays. Up for sale a lovely nut bowl by Rockford Silver Plate Co. circa 1890-1900. The nut bowl stands on 4 feet and features a squirrel perched on its rim. The body of the nut bowl is lobed and alternates between a satin and a shiny finish. The rim of the bowl has decorative medallions surrounded by c-scrolls and swirling foliage.
