Chinese Altar table. When our family bought this we were told it was from the Nanmu dynasty. We have loved it ~ however we are changing our decor to rustic now that we moved from the city to the country- we must part with it. A friend of mine is an interior designer and she saw the exact same table(different stain color) at her interior designer showroom in Seattle for $9.999.99. She said mine was much richer hue and in better condition. Regardless, we are looking for a home that will use it and appreciate its history and beauty. Vntg Antique Catholic Table Altar Shrine Cross Communion Last Rights Cabinet Box
Beautiful old table or wall altar which used to be in the old St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Covington. KY. The church opened in 1872 and was torn down in 1967, so I do not know the actual age of this item, but it has to be at least 45 years old and probably much older. This stands about 17 1/2" high and is 9 1/4" wide and overall is in pretty good condition. The front panel closes with metal hinges, which are still intact. The plastic-type material plate on the front panel door depicts an angel on each side and the 14 stations in the center. The top 2 corners of the plate have cracked apart but the tiny pieces are still attached to the panel door. The Jesus figure and larger crucifix are in good condition. The candle holders have some rust. Behind the panel door is a smaller crucifix, spoon and small plate in the satin lined ... morecompartment. The spoon and plate have some rust and corrosion, but the small cross is in very good condition. This item could use some restoration, but is still a lovely old piece as is. This is an antique Buddhist altar table(Kyozukue) in which small objects like candles sticks. A flower vase or an incense burner would be placed on top. This is usually inside a butsudan, a Japanese home shrine. It is all lacquered wood, mostly black, some parts have been painted with gold lacquer(lacquer mixed with powdered 24 karat gold. and the underside has been done with black lacquer mixed with gold sprinkles. Large in size at 18" tall and 8.5" widest with a 6.25 x 4.25 oval base, made in fine old French cast brass alloy. ... moreWithin the 1" deep recess, once cover is removed, you see that the original relic still has its original seal in place, too. It includes fine old red felt with sequins and gold thread embroidery as decorative interior and 4 relics, each with hand written identification label. The card and paper relic retains not only the original undamaged cover glass, but also the original wax seal(view in detail in our photos) and is in exceptionally fine condition throughout. Dating early to mid-1800s, these would have been made by nuns in various convents, and the seal will determine from which this one originated. I am not an expert in all of the seals, unfortunately, and do not have ID for this one's origin, sorry.
