TM10744(see Approximate Size) has a few extremely tiny chips on the upper frame. TM7355 has a microscopic chip on its upper frame. TM10731 is in pristine condition with no chips, breaks or cracks. The described damage to the first mentioned amulet is fairly insignificant and does not really distract from its appearance. The surface highlights are lightly to moderately polished from handling and age. Please refer to the photos. Remarks: This lot includes three authentic hand-carved stone amulets of Andean Indian creation used historically by Peruvian Puna Native Americans. Gilded, and Lacquered Wood Altar Stand Guangdong ~ Canton 19th Century Carved Scenes with Figures ~ please scroll down for more photos and information ~ SIZE: Height- 11” 28 cm) Length- 20.5” 52.5 cm) Width- 16.5 cm) DESCRIPTION: Very fine antique Chinese altar stand or platform dating from the late 19th century and made in the Guangdong- Canton Province. This piece is ornately decorated with six carved and gilded three- dimensional scenes with figures. As well as a painted lacquer top and red cinnabar colored painted details and interior. The‘Chanab’ or altar platform box is in two pieces. An altar platform with an attached base and it’s cover(with the ornate carved scenes) Originally the box would have contained a small separate platform and trays which would have been placed on top of the box when in use. Offerings ... morewould have been placed on this platform, however the platform is now lost. When not in use, the offering platform and trays would have been stored inside the box. The top of the cover is decorated with a gold lacquer painting of birds on branches. The circular‘moon-shaped’ disk in the center looks to be a repair/ restoration to a hole that was made in the top. And not original to the design. The carving of the scenes is very well done and seems to represent occasions or things that happened in the Imperial Court of China. Or possibly Chinese mythology. The altar platform has six cabriole legs with feet that are carved and gilded in the form of carved Lions or Foo Dogs with red balls on their backs. The flat base. Attached under the feet, shows great wear on the underside. AGE: Circa 1870- 1890’s. Qing Dynasty or period. CONDITION: Good condition. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: Excellent condition for it’s age. Light wear to the gilded parts. After the influential gothic masterpiece by Gentile da Fabriano(c1370-1427) and is believed to date from the early to late 19th century. Protected by silk-lined doors on left and right, it measures 31 by 27 in(78.8 by 38.6 cm) when closed. Title at the base reads“GENTILE DA FABRIANO(SEC. XV) L’ADORATION DEI MAGI” Virtually every detail in the original work by Fabriano has been faithfully addressed in this wonderful nineteenth century work of art. The wooden frame exhibits the finest design and carving, and its original gilded surfaces are in excellent condition. The frame is rectangular in shape, with three arches, surmounted with gothic ... morepediments including the painted depictions of saints and angels, and reticulated organic flourishes along the top. And as a ready on-hand sick call and last rites kit for a visiting priest. 23" tall and 13" wide and front-to-back depth of about 3 1/2" appears to be constructed of nicely stained oak. It features a large inset shadowbox with a plaster or chalkware statue of Mary cradling the body of Jesus in the style of Michelangelo's Pieta, behind glass with reverse-painted bordering and the phrase, Blessed Be Thy Holy Name" Below that is a door with an inset print of the Last Supper, that opens up into a compartment that contains the sick call/last rites kit. This box contains a crucifix that can be affixed to the back of the door with two attached straps. They fit the very common 1 1/4" candle size(they are"size 2" in the traditional old classification system and the text"1 1/4" is actually stamped on the side of each of them, so you can be absolutely certain this is the size they fit- see the last picture) The bottom opening of the followers measures about 1 3/8" and they stand about 2 1/4" high. One of the interesting thing about these old, antique bove followers is that they are heavy around the bottom because there is a bead of lead to hold them down and make them"follow" well.
