Measures 9 1/2 inch long cutting edge to hammer head. Cutting edge measures 8 1/4 inch. These were used for hewing the square beams and logs for the homes and barns of the first settlers here in Iowa. This is an old one and has a great rusty old patina from hanging unused in the barn for lots of years. It is not cracked or broke. Would make great rustic decoration in your log cabin or post and beam home. This one has light pitting on the flat side that could be lapped out, the cutting edge sharpened, and the axe put back to use if desired. My guess is it is an America/Swedish made axe as it has the feel/look and quality not found in china/india tools. The butt is nice and flat with sharp, square edges. With the butt facing you, the bevel goes to the right side. Axe head is 6" long, butt is 1"x2" Handle measures 12" long. Axe Weighs 2lbs. 2oz and cutting edge is 4-1/2" wide. Antique James Swan Timber Frame Boring Machine Drill
Offering for auction this antique boring machine used for timber framing. This is a James Swan model manufactured most likely in the late 1800s. All mechanisms function properly and there are no missing parts. Even the catch latch at the top works. The only issue I've noticed is that the wooden grip on the right handle doesn't spin as freely as it should. A little oil may do the trick. Does not affect functionality of the drill in any way. Medium sized timber frame carpenter/craftsman mallet. Made from a solid block of very hard oak and a hickory or ash handle. It weighs 30 ounces and measures 12" long. Head is 6 1/2" wide x 3 3/4" in diameter. The face measures 3" across. It was cleaned and finished with several coats of satin varnish and polished with 0000 steel wool and paste-wax to a soft luster. Has a very distinctive grain. This is beautiful one-of-a-kind item that any collector would prize. Some minor marks from age and use. And a few very thin shrinkage splits on one side of the head. Here is a nice old hand saw from Henry Disston& Sons. The tool is a D-23 with a 26" blade filed 5 1/2pt rip. The wood handle has no issues and the blade is straight and sharp. The pictures show some coarse rips in pine. A good tool for both the carpenter and timber framer. There is a calculated shipping charge based on location. vintage Disston hand saw #7 old timber frame carpenter tool 26" 6pt full nib
Here is a nice old Henry Disston& Sons hand saw maybe early 1900's. The tool has a 26" blade filed 6pt which is what is stamped on it but it seems to be crosscut style and that is kind of course. I showed it with some rip cuts in pine. It could go either way at this point but I think I would lean toward a rip profile. The handle is solid with some wear and chips but no cracks or major chunks missing. The blade ia pretty close to full depth and has the nib and a readable etch. Has some light rust and pitting from age but over all a good user from a desirable vintage. Sold as is for restoration or display. Please look at the pictures and ask any questions before you bid.
