Antique HUGE Glass Wood Case Displaying Decor 1800s 1900s Primitives Rare
DESCRIPTION* I got this from an estate sale that housed some of the oldest items I've ever seen. I'm unsure of the age or what it was originally used for. But it would be great for displaying a menu or sign. There is about an inch between the glass and the wood. It is such an odd piece, everyone commended and congratulated me as I took it away from the sale. The glass is cloudy in places, but you can see through it just fine. A sculptor's aim is to depict a person's psychological and moral characteristics, rather than provide a portrait. The sculptor begins by cutting a piece of wood and leaving it to dry in the sun; if it cracks. It cannot be used for a mask. African sculptors see wood as a complex living material and believe each piece can add its own feature to their work. Having made certain the wood is suitable, the sculptor begins, using an azde to carve the main features, a chisel to work on details and a rough leaf to sand the piece. He then paints the mask with pigments such as charcoal(to give a black colour) Powders made from vegetable matter or trees(for ochre/earth tones) or mineral powders like clay(to give a white colour) African peoples often symbolize death by the colour white rather than black; at the same time. Miniature Accessories Vintage Birds Satsuma Vase Cast Iron Indian Rug Primitives
Neat lot of miniature items. Maybe some really cute doll house accessories. The first two and last two pictures are of the entire lot. The rest of the pictures are close ups to give an idea of condition. I added a ruler to give an idea of size. The little ceramic vase that has the look of Satsuma(not sure if is) stands 1 1/2 inches tall. The basket of flowers is probably cast iron(it is magnetic) and stands 1 1/4 inches. It has shabby chippy paint. The rug is probably a cigarette felt and measures 4 1/4 x 2 1/4 inches, there is a little missing fringe on the corner& it has fading. The brass eagle is 1 x 2 1/4 inches and has a tab molded on the back to act as a stand. The brass candle sticks are 1 1/2 inches tall, slight dent on the base. The little silver candle holders have wax that needs to be removed. The little pewter(not marked, ... moreI'm not sure but they look like pewter) measures 1 3/4 x 1 1/2 inches, the pewter cup has a bend on the rim, the bowl has a design inside. The primitive carved wood birds are missing feet. This is a used and/or displayed lot of items and may need some cleaning or adjusting. Hi. You are bidding on a vintage African tribal mask. I have looked and found several that looked almost exactly like this one and I believe it to be from the Baule tribe. The gentleman I am selling it for stated he bought it back in the early 60's when he was in college. It said it was sold to him then at an antique store as old then.
