T his genuine hot cast bronze is very finely detailed and has a lovely rich patina. The bronze will be well packed to ensure it arrives with you in the same condition it leaves us. Diana was the goddess of the hunt. Being associated with wild animals and woodland, and also of the moon in Roman mythology. In literature she was the equivalent of the Greek goddess Artemis, though in cult beliefs she was Italic, not Greek, in origin. Diana was worshiped in ancient Roman religion and is currently revered in Roman Neopaganism and Stregheria. Dianic Wicca, a largely feminist form of the practice, is named for her. Diana was known to be the virgin goddess and looked after virgins and women. She was one of the three maiden goddesses, Diana, Minerva and Vesta, who swore never to marry. Up for auction is an original antique Art Deco Vienna/Austrian bronze whippet or greyhound dog sculpture. The bronze dates from the 1920's and is signed. RARE ART DECO SPANIEL ANTIQUE METAL DOG BOOKENDS WB WEIDLICH BROS, ca 1920s
These rarely seen metal bookends are high quality. Unique and quite beautiful. The mellow bronze patina accentuates the artistic elements and art deco designs found on all sides of these bookends. The spaniel is standing in front of his doghouse which is embellished with flowers. The doghouse itself has markings for roof tiles and planks of wood as well as a recessed doorway. The bookends were constructed in two pieces, which speaks to their high quality. The dimensions are 4 1/2 inches high, 3 1/2 inches wide, 3 1/2 inches deep, and they weigh just about 4 pounds for the pair. The condition is excellent with no damage or repairs noted. Both bookends are imprinted with the makers mark"WB 645" followed by either 2 threes or eights or some combination of them- hard to say exactly. A nice pair of cast book Ends here. Either Brass or Bronze measuring4 1/2 wide by 5 1/2 high.The casting is intricut on the faces and rough on the base.I have photos for you.The women and man are dressed in greek garb.The women with a bow and a hound the man with what looks like a gun in his hand.Odd theme but still nice art deco look.There is crackor opening between the ladies legs.It is visible in the photo from the back.This is not damage but from the foundry. I bought this beautiful lady some years ago at an Antique Fair because she reminded me of myself in my much younger days with her beloved fox terrier The seller said she was Art Deco but I do not know this for sure. She is dressed in the period with her brown beret and matching clutch bag along with her fox terrier. Which was highly popular in the twenties She looks very classy and elegant and has been standing on my dressing table for many years I will be sorry to see her go but I have to move on. Fine quality Art Deco style hot cast bronze figure depicting a lady in an elegant dress stood with her dog behind her. Mounted on a solid marble base this piece stands 37cm high. Although bearing his signature this is not an original of Lorenzl's work but is a later reimagining. Josef Lorenzl(Austrian.1892–1950) When looking to the designs of the Art Deco period one talented sculptor that cannot be ignored is Josef Lorenzl. A master designer. His bronze statuettes and figural work epitomise the era perfectly. As with Ferdinand Preiss and Demetre Chiparus, the other great sculptors from this period, Lorenzl was inspired by the female form and the new found freedom that women enjoyed, which he executed beautifully both in his bronze and ceramic designs. Although very little is known about Lorenzl’s early life he was born in Austria in 1892 ... moreand was soon to become one of the most talented sculptors of the Art Deco Period. He started by working for a bronze foundry in Vienna, where he produced enticing bronze statuettes. The majority of his works in bronze were of singular slim young female figures with long legs, conveying elegance and fluid movement. ANTIQUE GOLD ARMOR BRONZE BASSET HOUND DOG ART DECO GALVANO POMPEIAN BOOKENDS
Up for auction is a timeless bookend pair. Depicted are well aged Basset Hounds. These were made by the Armor Bronze Foundry. And date to no earlier than 1925. A few varieties of these do exist, but only in color. You will find these to be in ideal condition. Each show some signs of age, but nothing gross or obscene. This pair has not been polished. And the tight bronze glad bodies radiate like Baldwin brass. These have a quality about them that make them stand out amongst pairs in this genre. These stand at around 6 inches tall. And are heavy at about 5 lbs for the pair. Interestingly, only one is marked, and that is a small copyright mark. Rest assured that these are old, authentic, and 100% original pieces that are rarely seen. This particular pair has been well-kept for over 80 years and will continue to grow in value. Only a handful of companies, from the early 1910's through the early 1940's, used the galvanization method of dipping plaster molds into a bronzing solution that allowed metal particles to form over the object. The result, finely formed bronzes, sometimes in gold and silver even. With those tell-tell wicks on the bottom, you can believe that these are not fakes, besides today, the process is too time consuming and expensive to duplicate. If you are a collector of bookends. 1938 Art Deco Chalk Wall Plaque Lady w/ Wolfhound Borzoi Dog Signed A. Nuti 19"
This auction is for a lovely art deco chalk wall plaque featuring a classic lady and borzoi dog design. The lady wears a draped pillar dress and holds a billowing gold scarf in one hand while caressing a statuesque wolfhound with the other hand. The top edge of the plaque has this information incised: A. Nuti 1938 Made In USA. Considering the fragile nature of chalk plaques. Very few of these survived and this is the only example of this particular scene that I have seen from this series. The paint is all original but shows a fair bit of wear. It is cracking and chipping in many areas, which is visible in the close-up pictures. When you turn the piece over, though, there are no cracks on the back. There are no cracks in the back of the piece, though there are some shallow scratches(not sure if they are manufacturing errors? and there is a ... morechip near the hanging hardware on the back as well as another small chip on the back in the 1 o'clock position. Art Deco Bakelite or Tortoise Shell Box with Metal Dog
This is a beautiful box made in the 1920s or 1930s. At first I thought it was bakelite but it may be tortoise shell. I can’t really tell. But it is well crafted of the orangey brown material with a great looking metal dog on top. Not sure of the dog’s material but it looks like a patina bronze and I believe the dog is hollow. The box is 3.5” inches by 4.5” inches and about 2” inches tall without the dog. With the dog, it’s about 5” inches tall. Excellent condition with no damage though the top has a slight wear pattern of a circle around the dog as if he has been swiveled to pointing in different directions. Dog is quite stable and the box sides are about.25” inch thick just like the lid. Top fits bottom perfectly and the bottom has felt on it. Shipping and handling $11 in US, $25 international. Fantastic opportunity to own a genuine Art Deco handbag notebook holder. With original notepad inside. This is a lovely piece made of brass with black and red enamel stylised Scotty dog/ Highland terrier decoration. It is a small notepad holder with the original notepad inside. It would have been for a ladies handbag and is classic Art Deco in style. I bought this in Wales and found that inside the case was a little notepad which had the date August 23rd 1930 or 1936. The rest of the message is in Welsh! You can see this in one of the pictures. The case is approx 3 inches long. Has a hinged flap and is in remarkably good condition for a small item of this age. Santini and featuring the design of a running lady and her Borzoi. Russian Woldhound or Afghan hound dog. Excellent detailing and design. Approx. measurements are 17" tall. 17" wide and 6 3/4" deep. Great vintage condition with age appropriate crazing. Wear to paint and minor flakes here and there. There are some small place where it looks like the paint has flaked and it has been touched up. This is a great pair of original vintage art deco cat and dog bookends from the 1930's. They are made of silver chrome and black vitralite glass. They measure 4 1/2 inches tall. 3 inches in width and 3 1/4 inches in depth. They are deceptively heavy for their size. They have some light tarnish but are in overally very good condition for their age. When put together the dog looks like he is barking at the cat and the cat looks like he is hissing at the dog. Offered. A beautiful vintage miniature print of crawling baby with dog. It is in gold frame that is rich, deep weeping gold, gesso over wood. It measures approx. 4 1/2" square. No maker marks but the hanger is patented to 1933. Condition is good VINTAGE with some nicks on the edges& corners that reveals the white gesso. I do not perceive the nicks as obvious. Additionally, the print is not under glass so it has some age/wear and minor damage. Again, nothing significant in my opinion. Really lovely old piece! There is NO RESERVE on this stunning and rare single(1) Art Deco geometric cocker spaniel dog on streamlined base bookend from San Francisco Estate. Made by Jennings Brothers Mfg. Co. Aka"JB" Circa 1930's. He has excellent detail and he is truly exquisite! This beautiful dog looks stunning on its modernistic deco base. He is made of some kind of metal with a chrome finish- a magnet will not stick to him. The overall measurement is 5-1/4" tall, 3" wide, 2-5/8" deep. He is signed"JB 1029" on the back, and he is also signed with a paper label on the bottom, which reads"The Jennings Bros. Mfg. Co. I am selling a charming Ronson Hound Dog striker from 1935. Marked with the date. This is the rarer copper metal version. And I believe the most handsome. Comes complete with the detachable striking attachment on top. Condition is quite good, with no noticeable scratches and just one small ding on the tail. Only minimal green oxidation of the copper.
