Georgian Gentleman's Press/armoire with fitted drawers. Circa 1810. Looking for a piece to anchor your room? This antique.Beautiful, large mahogany 2 door wardrobe will satisfy the requirement. it measures 24" deep, 48" wide and 83" high and is not only roomy, but offers an organized space for storage. Breaks down into 3 sections for easier transport-bottom drawer, mid-section and'bonnet' or cornice. The case piece includes a fitted interior with solid wood. Dove-tailed drawers on the left, wardrobe for hanging clothing on the right supported by one wide drawer. Each drawer was designed for the gentleman's finer things, from hats and gloves to shirts and sweaters. Suits, skirts and dresses may be hung on the right. The press is lined with a finely woven. Printed, figured fabric featuring a celtic design, intertwining ... moreshapes in red and sepia on a cream background. The fabric has suffered one tear near the exterior edge of the compartment for hanging clothing. I believe it is reparable, the material is still'crisp' but there are signs of use where the fabric meets the opening. The overall condition of the press is good for its age of 200 years! It is a solid, heavy piece with little chips of the dark veneer missing from the base of the press. The interior wood finish is the color of rich honey; the exterior is brush-stroked a dark mahoghany over a warmer, lighter wood tone. All drawer pulls are original. We do have the pull for the bottom drawer; however. A dowel is needed in order to keep it in place. The lock is a working original one. It was described as a beautiful, precise lock by the locksmith who crafted the key. The press was imported to the U.S. from Dumfries. Scotland. It is an example of well-made furniture. This absolutely stunning Baroque walnut armoire was purchased in Opio. France, 11 years ago by my husband and me. Our children are off to college, and we are downsizing, so we are selling a few of our larger pieces. Measures 96" tall. 86" wide, 28" deep. The armoire has two very large doors that swing open, and are secured with a metal antique key. The two drawers under the doors open for additional storage. Indicative of pieces from this era. This beautiful example crafted from the finest burr and heart wood has a an angular cornice with castleated detail over a central large mirrored door flanked by fielded doors with brass handles being raised on a plinth base. Spectacular original knockdown wardrobe from 120+ years ago. Original finish; well cared for since new. 48" wide; you can use it as a closet for that room that has none. 87" tall including top cornice piece- make sure it will fit before bidding! Completely disassembles with no tools- top. Middle, and base all are held together with sliding wood clamps that cleverly attach the sections. This has been in the same family since new. It was last used as a gun safe judging by the racks on the left side. Both doors lock. Beautiful oak grain with no damage anywhere. No makers mark; just the number 31 stamped on a number of pieces. No wood damage or repairs. No rot. The wardrobe comes with three doors, which are all picture frame molded and shows an unbelievable display of high quality quarter sawn oak. It comes with its own key, but the locks usually need to be adjusted and cleaned so unfortunately we are unable to guarantee locks. The best thing about this wardrobe is its size. It is 64 inches wide on the inside, 23 inches deep and 70 inches high. It has a hanging rod on the top as well as a place where you could put shelves if you so desire. This gorgeous wardrobe has plenty of space and an added bonus to it is that it is extra deep. When you close it all up, it displays wonderful tiger sawn oak panels, and picture frame molded doors which are beautiful. The three drawers underneath are all dovetailed, picture frame molded and raised paneled. The sides, as you would expect them, are all raised panel, which is a sure sign of high quality, with each side having three large panels and two small panels. The top section has a brass dividing strip. Aggressive lion paw feet. Brasses are a Victorian era up-date. Mahogany with highly figured crotch mahogany veneers, secondary woods of white pine and poplar. 48 x 24 x 95" in two sections. The bureau section does not have a top just molding around the edges which adds confirmation to this having always been a press.Requires some conservation, nice old polish.
