Being offered for sale is this splendid Eastlake Victorian Solid Walnut 3 piece Bedroom Set with Carved Shells circa 1880. This lovely 19th century bedroom set features gorgeous incised carvings of potted flowers.Incised carvings of geometric designs and beautiful applied carvings of scrolls and shells on the head-board and foot-board. The Bed: The bed measures 62 1/2 inches in height at the head-board.39 1/2 inches in height to the top of the foot-board, with the outside with of the bed being 61 3/4 inches and outside length measuring 81 inches and this bed weighs approximately 200 lbs total. The inside mattress area measures 57 1/2 inches wide by 74 3/4 inches long and should fit a full size mattress set nicely, but one should always measure their own mattress set to assure proper fit. The height from the floor to the top of the sides rails ... moreat the enter measures 14 3/4 inches.The bed sets up solid and tight and very sturdy. The right side of the foot-board does have a slight age shrinkage crack about 6 inches long near the bottom right side.nothing major but worth mentioning. The Dresser: The matching walnut dresser measures 72 inches in height to the top of the mirror.Height to the top of the base measures 29 1/2 inches, width of the base is 46 1/4 inches and depth of the base is 21 1/4 inches and the dresser weighs approximately 145 lbs. The original beveled mirror measures 33 1/4 inches wide by 27 inches in height and is in excellent antique condition. All the locks are intact on the dresser but we do not have the key.There are replacement casters on the dresser base. The Washstand: The matching washstand with towel bar measures 57 inches to the top of the towel supports on each side. Height to the top of the back-splash measures 37 3/4 inches, height to the base is 29 3/4 inches, with a width of 34 1/2 inches, and a depth of 20 inches, the washstand weighs approximately 80 lbs.The lock is missing on the inside of the cabinet door, and bottom pull is not an exact match to the original other pulls, the was

32 wide 16 deep 40 tall OK. Here comes the CSI work that those of us dealing in material culture from a past era practice in the attempt to identify furniture accurately. Clearly, this cabinet was meant for sorting. I date it somewhere in the last decade of the 19th century, perhaps up to 1910. It has been suggested that this was a postal cabinet in one of the Texas small towns or a hotel room key and message cabinet. I do not believe it was for postal sorting, as there have been no applied things to identify the slots. For the same reason, I do not believe it was meant to sort mail and messages for a small hotel- and there would have been no reason for doors in either of those applications. I have seen similar cabinets as the top of a flat or drop front desk and this makes the best sense to me. I cannot recall a piece of production furniture, ... morea desk top, of even the most modest use built without a locking mechanism, as though everyone who ever owned a desk had something to hide, even with their easily smashed glass doors. My point here is that this piece of well made furniture never had a lock, just 2 simple knobs. I believe it is a custom piece, meant for a purpose. Now, the purpose. Any small business at the turn of the 20th century would have kept its own books and the paperwork would have been kept close at hand, sorted, and handy. I don't see this cabinet as that of a private home, maybe for the foreman or business manager of a ranch, but not just someone's personal papers. It's way too clean for one of the dirty industries, like blacksmithing, drayage, or a feedlot, but could easily have fit into the country doctor's office or the small ranch or maybe as the top of a law clerk's desk or in a assay office. This is just off the top of my head. The thinking runs that a lawyer would have locks on everything, but the law clerk would be more of a paper shuffler. Well, you will have more ideas to toss into the mix. I have slipped standard printer paper and a legal size envelope in the cubbies

Rare and unique. I took the chairs apart so that you can see the construction of them. I see that the joints have the mortise and tenon construction. The old hardware or nails are on the base that holds up the cushion only. Notice the nicely carved wood that has a side profile of either a warrior or a knight. Each chair is carefully carved with an urn form pierced splat, incredibly detailed in the likeness of a harp over pillars. Two of the chairs have stunning carved molded frames, two have slightly more plain molded frames. Chairs are fully pegged construction, several with tenon mortised frames locked together with small pegs. The aprons are nicely outlined. The front legs reach through the top of the seat, uniquely showing above the upholstery before tapering into the leg. Each leg is carved, though legs bare minor variation between ... moreseveral in the carvings. An H-form stretcher locks the legs firmly in place. For the collector willing to do some restoration work. This set is a rare aquisition in wonderful form. A deep oxidization covers the entire set, with a glowing patina throughout. I want to say that on a weekly basis I get questions from bidders asking if I split up family lots of diaries and sell them separately. So I thought I’d post something to ease everyone’s mind before they buy. I am very passionate about diary collecting and history and I can’t even imagine buying a diary lot from one particular family and then splitting them up and selling each separately. Its heart wrenching when I see this happening and you have my promise that if I have more then one diary. No matter how many I have, I will always sell family lots together in one auction. But I think it’s a good question you should always ask your sellers just in case you want to try and keep a lot together. The entire diary was kept for the benefit of recording one couples life(at least three years of it) while at their cottage by the lake. They didn’t actually live at the cottage but spent most of their time there. I don’t know the couples name(although her husband is Harold) and I couldn’t find the name of the cottage or lake but I believe its Lake Erie around Ashtabula. Antique walnut and bone miniature roll top cabinet with three graduating drawers and a door. It stands 11" high. 7" deep, and 9" wide. Under the roll top there are six small cubby holes and a ledge for a pen or pencil. The three dovetailed drawers have bone knobs. On the door is a bone cross and a bone keyhole. There is a lock, but no key. It has four brass decorated ball feet. A very unusual miniature cabinet. This would be great for dolls. The top cubby holes have been papered in the past.

Up for auction is this wonderful bookcase. The shelves are adjustable. The doors lock and the key is included. The cabinet is in original antique condition. We have used this cabinet for several years. We put our 50" flat screen TV on top. Inside we stored our DVD& VCR tapes. We also put our dish player. VCR& DVD player and our stereo system in it. We added the curtains so all the stuff inside woudn't show, but you could still use the remote through the glass front without opening the doors.
