7 Sections of ANTIQUE WROUGHT IRON FENCE each 5 feet long with FINIALS Vintage
I have for auction a beautiful section of antique wrought iron fence. This fence came from a cemetery the person I purchased it from also said it is approx 120 years old. It has 7 sections of fencing that are each approx 5 ft long by 3 ft 4 1/2 inches tall from the ground to the top of the finial. We looked at the fence and there are enough brackets to connect this section of fence together with it ending with one section having an extra bracket and the other end will not. You will need to add your own bolts and nuts to connect them. They are topped off with neat old finials each measures approx 4" I have numbered each section so I can describe each one individually and I will try my best to describe it so you know exactly what you are buying. 1= has 8 top and bottom finials and every thing looks straight#2= has 8 top and bottom finials ... moreand it looks straight it has the one end piece is loose and has the top bolt but the bottom 2 are missing#3= has 8 top and bottom finials and the 2nd top finial has a bend to it approx 1/2" off center. In the Victorian age. Child mortality rate was ... morequite high. When a wealthier family had a child die, they quite often buried the child right on their property. The child would often be buried without headstone and have a fence erected around the area and turn the somber area into a small garden, so the child would continue to bring joy, long after the sorrow passed. Normally those gated cemetery gardens would be short ornate wrought iron fences. Thus making us think that that is what this is. Awhile ago from the same general area this came from we had another much like this with the same type of ornamentation. That was signed by a local blacksmith, John J. Comerford, thus the attribution. We ended up with two sections, this is the first of those two. The overall piece has 5 spear top spikes topped and four sections topped with a decorative Fleur de Lis cap as well as the two end bars. It does have the standard issues any 130 year old outside iron fence would have. It has a fair amount of oxidation. Some bends, old paint in several colors, BUT what an amazing fence section. This listing is for a set of 41 pieces of Garden Border Fencing. These are not really an item I am familiar with and I couldn't find any exactly like them to compare. I believe they are vintage. Cast/wrought iron and“powder coated” not an expert, so these are guesses) They are very heavy, not cheap flimsy metal like modern ones. They do show some weathering. I do not have time to detail each and every mark. Most are in good condition, a few show more wear/rust than others(see close up of worst example, maybe 1/2 dozen or less) They have hooks/hinges on the ends to hold together/rotate direction. There are 30 that are about 18” wide and 11 that are 6” Which if I did my math correctly is about 50 feet. They stand about 18” tall, from the bottom of the stake to the top of the fluer de lis(height in garden would depend on how far down you ... morepush the stakes) Make sure to check the shipping tab for all price options(lowest doesn't always appear up top or on searches) Sorry shipping is high. Antique wrought Iron Driveway Gates 11' Victorian heavy steel garden fence
Wrought Iron Driveway Gates 11' 5" outside hinge to outside hinge. Beautiful antique wrought iron driveway gates. Both sections are about 4' high at the hinge/post end and 5' 3" at the center end so if you mounted them with 12" ground clearance the center of the gates would be 6' 3" from the ground to the top of the gate where they meet in the center. The right section measures 5' 4" long while the left section measures 5' 5" long end to end not including the hinges which add another 4" each end which gives a clearance of about 11' 4" gate post to gate post. Hinges move easily. These gates are very heavy. you might want to pound the slight bend out of the left section post end 1/2" steel piece. There are 5 large fence posts and a gate. There are several tie rods and anchor plates. Fence has known provenance. it was Purchased from an estate located in a small Illinois town close to Sante fe railroad. being sold due to sale of property. Kirtland Mormon Temple cemetery Original Wrought Iron Fence Ohio LDS 1800s
This story is evolving as I learn more. 8/10/14. Will someone PLEASE HELP ME FIND AN OLD PICTURE OF THIS ORIGINAL WROUGHT IRON KIRTLAND MORMON CEMETERY FENCE. This fence was replaced shortly after WW II but this was the original fence from the 1800s. The fence I am selling is a 6 foot section of the original Mormon Temple Cemetery fence from the 1800s. I think it is priceless and has historical significance. This fence stood between the Kirtland Mormon Temple and Joseph Smith's home in Kirtland at the cemetery. I received this 6 foot section of fence from 92 year old Bill of Kirtland. Ohio area. I believe this is an antebellum 6 foot piece of Hand wrought iron history from the early Ohio Mormon history period. Bill got this fence from the estate of Vernon McFarland whose family owned a wrought iron ironware business in the 1800s and 1900s. ... moreI have taken a picture of the old sign from the O.S. McFarland family business that used to reside in the red building on the hill leading up to the Temple on the opposite side of route 306. According to Bill the fence was replaced by a newer fence installed by McFarland soon after WWII. McFarland kept this section of the original hand wrought iron fence in storage. Bill said that the fence had to be replaced because cars kept running into the fence damaging the original fence. I could imagine Ford Model T's hitting the fence. Vernon McFarland stored this fence in his red barn building for over a half of a century or more before passing away about 5 years ago. Perhaps someone has an old photograph of this fence design before it was replaced. It was replaced sometime during the 1900s. I believe this fence has great historical value to the LDS or Mormon or Reorganized or"Community of Christ" or Reformed church members. The"Temple Hill Forge" was established in 1865 by the McFarland family. They made Ornamental and Colonial Ironware. They were given the job to replace the original fence with the one that is currently in place. I would appreciate anyone

When being exactly next to each other the rings are not at the same height for display purposes. One piece has rounded edges on the 2 horizontal bars.
