These are 4 Shinn Lightning Rods- Wrought iron stands with copper lightning rods. Ornate white milk glass balls that have W.C. Shinn, Lincoln, NE embossed on them. Also includes ornate cast wind vane with red glass"Shinn" insigna. Three of the glass balls are in very good shape with the normal chips on the edges. The fourth ball has a couple holes in it- probably from a shotgun shot- please note picture) Rods are 66" tall. The wrought iron base with legs is 38" base alone is 18" The glass milk balls are approximately 5" tall with a 1" diameter at ends. Vintage James Weathervane Cow Nice
For your consideration is an antique James Weathervane cow. The cow measures approx 15" wide by 9" high. It is made of non-magnetic zink& silver soldered seams. Firmly soldered and mounted to original copper rod. The copper rod could be fitted to the original cast iron arrow if you wish. You are bidding on the cow mounted on rod only. One.22 shot at the neck area adds some interesting character. No rust with wonderful aged patina throughout entire cow. A couple of very minor dents I will clearly picture.The condition is exceptional considering it's 100 plus years old. Rare Folk Art Full Bodied Cod Fish Weathervane Great Folk Art Paint Vintage Old Description: Wonderful Vintage Full Bodied Cod Fish Weathervane A remarkable find. We found this wonderful piece of folk art several years ago in an estate out of Massachusetts. The form as you can see is a full bodied cod fish. Complete with attached fins and punched scale patterns. The woman who we purchased the item from stated that she had found in off the coast of Mass. decades ago. Judging from the paint patterns and construction of the body. We feel the piece is circa 1940's, though several other dealers we have shown it to place it slightly earlier. A close pattern itself can be seen in some earlier weathervane catalogs, but again we feel the construction places it later. Also of note. And in agreement with the former owner, the piece has probably ... moreused at a sea-side town, the salty air corroding the surface into what now is an absolutely beautiful patina. Please take a moment to click on the images and you'll see you can produce enlargements that showcase the condition and construction. There is some areas of rust through. Notably near the tail, and also at the lower fins. All the fins are still in place but the piece is in fragile condition. There is even some metal flaking in the interior, heard when the piece is moved. We love the compliment of the rusty surface with the old paint. The panel is actually a deep red in color and the etched pattern is called"Hearts and Balls" It is all original and dates to the turn of the century. First let me say I don't know a single thing about this. By research and suggestions. This is a cast aluminum weather vane. We took this off the top of our garage. My father in law owned this piece and he had it for at least 30 years I'm guessing which the date on back says 1979 which would make it 33 years old. Vintage Dutch like windmill weathervane. Base is cast metal and has two holes in base to anchor to deck or whatever. Measures 15" high and is 5.25" in diameter at the base. Blades and tail are tin. Blades measure 12" in diameter and tail is 6" long. Works but needs a good mechanic to go over it to make it run smoother. Red cap on top just sits on gears. Antique Weathervane Rooster RARE Brass / Bronze Or Copper ? Hand Hammerd HELP ??
Here we have a estate find very old antique Weathervane rooster. Im not sure if its all hand hammer or if its copper brass or bronze nor its exact age you collectors will be the judge. I can tell you its very very old i could not find another one like it any ware on the computer. It looks like the person who owned it has a old drill bit and screw it on to a old antique block of solid wood. It does screw off its not welded on the drill bit. When you look at the bottom ware screw threads are it begins with a white metal but then it turns into a brass color metal so thats why i my self think its solid brass or bronze but again you collectors will be the judge. Please see the very close up picture of the threads and you will see exactly what i mean about the threads turning into a brass color after the first 4 or 5 threads. From the point of his beck to the tail its around 16 1/2 inches long. then from top of tail to bottom of tail its almost 10 inches long. then from his belly to top of his head around 12 inches tall then from one side of his body to other side its around 3 1/4 inches fat. Then when sitting on the block from the bottom block of wood to the top of the head its around 26 1/2 inches tall. The wood base it self is 2 1/2 inches thick and left to right around 6 1/2 and front to back around 6 inches long. Still in very good solid condtion i do not see anything broken at all. Again if any one can please tell me who made this and its exact age and what its made of i thank you very much for your help. This was found from the same estate sale as my old antique Gothic chandeliers plus a very old hunting duck hat with old pins on it that i have listed on ebay please have a look at them if you like. Here's a Great Antique 19th Century American Running Horse Weathervane with Copper Body and Cast Iron Head. Offered at NO RESERVE! The weathervane measures approximately 24 and 1/4" long and stands about 15" tall. For the age and use it's in Very Good Condition; it has a variegated verdigris and rust patination which to me looks phenomenal. The head is rusty but solid, and there appear to be several filled holes here and there. Under the head the seam is split somewhat but that could be repaired. Of course there are dents, dings, and so forth, but nothing I would rate as being negative. As far as the history, it came off a barn in Fair Haven, NJ, which was built in the 1870s, and remained in the same family until I acquired it recently. Although I'm not sure how old it is. I'm guessing early part of the 20th century. The paint on the rooster itself is real chalky and appears to be chalk paint. It will come off on your hands. The rooster is a heavy cast aluminum and is thick-bodied. Not slender like most. The rest of it is a cast iron base and a metal tube. It has a long bolt through it. The rooster looks like it used to thread on there but it is now loose and will come off. This would be a great decorative piece as it just has that"look" to it. This one is the third of three wooden roosters from the estate collection. The paint has chips and has probably seen better days has a few dings to the beak and sits on a steel iron rod. Weathervane Compass Points for Lightning Rod
This is a set of compass points that fit a 5/8" rod. I do not believe they are old. They look new to me. They are in excellent shape and made out of aluminum. They line up on the center hub and fit the best if you put the one that is the S were the set screw is on the hub. I think these will make someone very happy.
