Old Antique Cast Iron Chantrell Tool And Hardware Rim Lock Door Hardware
This is a rusty old antique Cast Iron Door Lock Hardware. The only writing I can see is in a circle on the back and I cannot make it out. Lock is 4 3/16" x 3 1/8" x 5/8" thick. Additional information or pictures upon request. I've recently heard from someone that seems to know about the manufacturer of this lock. According to him this is a rim lock manufactured by Chantrell Tool and Hardware Company. This company was established in 1888 in Reading. Pennsylvania. It's principal line was builders hardware, consisting of locks and design goods. Although a couple of sites list the firm as active I can find nothing to indicate they are still manufacturing. I was also asked if it still works. I do not have a key but looking at it I'm very sure it doesn't. Frozen up by the rust. I have an old cast iron surface rim lock with catch for your consideration. Included are a pair of porcelain doorknobs. Doorknob rosette, ornate skeleton key backplateand standard 1/4 inch driverod with a couple set screws for the knobs. The latch mechanism engages and disengages with drive gear and the lever lock locks latch. I do not have a key for deadbolt slide so I do not know if it works. Upon opening everything seems to be in order if you find a key or have one made. See pic of inside and you make your decision. Can be used without deadbolt as is. There is quite a bit of original black paint along with other residual paint and finish from over the years. Questions welcome otherwise what you see is what you get. Instruction sheet is dated October, 1956, so this lock goes way back. Eagle lock is an old company out of Terryville, Connecticut. If you are looking for that original style for your back door. Early heavy duty antique deadbolt rim slide lock vintage door lockset hardware
I have a very nice cast iron deadbolt rim lock for your consideration. This lock looks gently used if at all. Very nice reusable condition with matching heavy duty catch. Box is heavy duty as well measuring 1 1/8 inches thick. This is a rarer rim lock which has only an oversized deadbolt slide. No latching mechanisms. It has an early brass flat key tumbler that looks almost new. I opened the box and everything looks intact but did not want to try and move deadbolt for fear of flat springs popping out and not knowing how to replace in proper position. I assume that when you find a key or have one made that it will work nicely from its condition and appearance. Once again. I have no key. I don't know what the metal is. I think the bolt. Key cover, knob on slide and key shaft is brass. The keys will open the bolt when it is out but I can't get the key to lock the bolt. This lock also comes with an original escutcheon, rosette, skeleton key, and keeper. I am also including solid brass mounting screws. This lock was carefully taken apart by myself and all parts striped of paint and cleaned of all rust and corrosion. Afterwards the casing was painted with a gloss black enamel paint similar to the original black japanning these types of locks would have had. The internal workings were then lubricated and the lock carefully reassembled. This lock, one of the most elegant and stately models offered by the manufacturer, is designed primarily for use on exterior/entrance doors. This lock is complete and in good working order. It will ship on its mahogany display board. A special bonus on this auction is that the lock comes equipped with Baldwin's model 5005, Bull's Eye' style knobs and a 2" traditional rose for the exterior. A solid brass. Bit key, for the inside of the door, is included. The latch bolt can be operated by the knob from either side; and the dead bolt can be operated by the bit key or the slide bolt from the inside and the cylinder key from the outside.
