This is a real beauty and I believe it is all walnut under paint.Restore it back and uncover a gem.It has a wonderful design and carvings as picture shows. This is a superbly cut crystal newel post with ornate brass or bronze hardware. The newel post has been mounted on a white marble base. The post including the marble base is 6 1/8 inches high. The crystal post itself is 2 inches in diameter. It is extremely well cut and may be baccarat but we cannot find a signature. There are some tiny chips. Please see photos for details.

Heavily carved oak newel post & 3 others circa late 1800s
First let me state I believe the wood is oak but iam not sure.The carved newel post is a true work of art restore it back to original wood and this is a fine piece of period workmanship.To have this item made would not only cost a fortune but possibly could not be duplicated.The other posts where at the ends of the staircase at the 2nd and 3floors they are 87-85-79 inches tall by 5 inches wide with cut outs as pictures show.The front carved post is 60x6-1/2 with cut out at bottom 44 inches from top point take a good look at the pictures this has fine detail hidden under paint.Its a true winner all the way for any other info email or call Vinny 1-631-300-7403 thanks.

It is larger than the standard 4 1/2" ball types made by Cumberland Woodcraft and is made in white oak rather than red oak. It is 9 1/4" high. Huge. Turned walnut, stairway, newel post. Circa 1860-1880 w/square nail construction. Nice, framed, recessed panels on every one of its 8 sides. Especially striking is the contrasting lighter stain inside each recessed panel. Adding a top would make this a terrific, one of a kind, plant stand or art pedestal. Antique Solid Oak Architectural Carved Victorian Newel ? Post Column Pillar
Solid oak post or column measuring about 23 1/4" tall. The diameter of the plain end measures about 5" and the other end where the carving is measures about 7" in diameter. Some areas of the column are straight cut oak while on 2 sides there is tiger oak grain showing. This piece is unfinished. The end with the carving is flat on the bottom while the other end is concave.There is a small piece of the turned ring near the carved portion that is missing. Also there is a tight age crack extending about 2" long from the end of the plain side and some dark spots on the turned ring on the bottom. Thank you for viewing. He stands about 23" tall to the top of the shade& he is made of spelter. He is in excellent shape-no damage or repairs. He has a brass Paris foundry stamp(sometimes called a coin) on the back of his base. He has brand new wiring& a rotary switch on the cord. The slag glass shade is awesome. It is opalescent so when lit it has an amazimg warm golden glow that is hard to capture with the camera. Also. Red/blue/green jewels surround the top. The shade is in excellent condition-no chips or cracks. This lamp once graced a newel post in a stately home but is now a table lamp.

Left over from a staircase I installed close to forty years ago(see bottom images) My guess would be that the wood is Chestnut. There are nicks and scratches, as well as some nail holes where handrail attached. The post measures 25-1/2" in height x 5-1/2" x 6-7/8" at square side widths. The turned parts are 5" dia. at the top and the smallest diameter is 3-3/16" Three faces have identical designs. Fourth is where railing attached; one small square broken nail remains. This is a wonderful antique boxed newel post in walnut. Dating from the 1890’s. The newel begins with a cap with a flat top. Below, the newel post is accented with roundels, followed by a bead-and-reel pattern on the corners of the newel. The sides are ornamented with simple fluting. This box newel post is in very good antique condition, with one crack on the back of the post(pictured) and some very minor chips and dings. The newel is 56 ¼” tall and 8 ¾” wide. Description This is a nice piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is made of chestnut and is painted. It has the original cap but not the finial. The top has carved panels on three sides. The shaft is fluted. The base is notched for the step but is freestanding. It measures 49.5 inches tall. The base is 7.5 inches and the shaft is 6 square. Overall it is in decent condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. The cap is pretty beat up. There are lots of small chips and wear. We think it was salvaged in the early 70’s and has been stored in a garage. It has fantastic carving and details. The Newel Post that is 26 ½ inches tall. IT APPEARS TO HAVE ONLY HAD ONE COAT OF PAINT IN ITS LIFE TIME. IT IS CHIPPED. ETC. VERY NORMAL FOR THE AGE. WOULD BE VERY EASY TO REMOVE ALL PAINT IF WANTED. THE HOUSE STOOD BY THE RAILROAD TRACK IN A SMALL TOWN NEAR US. IT WAS ALLOWED TO GO DOWN HILL FOR YEARS. ROOF WAS BAD AND MOST INTERIOR ITEMS WERE DESTROYED. SOMEHOW THIS SURVIVED. Late 19th-Early 20th C. Probably American. The lot comprising: 1 large colorless glass finial with red and white pulled feather design along the interior, the glass mounted to a shaped cylindrical metal base decorated with an Art Nouveau/Aesthetic style gold over gesso pattern of overlapping flowers and vines, the underside lined with felt; together with 2 similar colorless glass finials, the interiors blown with colorful undulating flower forms with captive bubbles, with tapering bases(one polished) both unmarked. Dimensions: Finial A(on Stand) 6.5" high x 4" diameter. Finial B: 4" high x 3.75" diameter. Finial C: 4.1" high x ... more3.75" diameter. Total Weight: 10 lbs. 10oz. Condition: Finial A: There are considerable number of scratches/abrasions to the surface of the glass. With a couple of bruises(dents) along the top measuring 0.1" and 0.375" across. There is some rubbing/wear to the gilt pattern along the surface of the stand along with a small chip/loss to the gesso along the base rim measuring 0.125" long. Otherwise, the piece is in good condition. Finial B: Lacking a stand. There are stretch-like marks in the glass around the edge of the polished base. There are some light scratches/abrasions to the surface of the glass along with a couple of faint bruises measuring 0.1" and 0.2" across. Otherwise, the piece is in very good condition.
