Vintage Antique Pine Newel Post Cannon Ball Old Varnish Finish 4 3/4" x 40"
For your consideration is a vintage pine newel post. The post is 4 3/4" square x 40" tall. As shown. The post retains the original varnish with paint spatters here and there. The original configuration had hand rails coming into two sides of this post.so like an"L" There are nail holes and no varnish in these areas. There is a small chip in one of the turned rings on the ball top, as shown in the last photo. Estate fresh and in as found condition, there are dings and scratches as should be expected. The newel post begins with an unusual cap shaped like a spinning top; below, the newel post is ornamented on three sides with panels of beautifully carved flowers and leaves. A pair of late 19th early 20th C Newel post/ Staircase lamps/Lights. I'm guessing they are Victorian. Could be as late as the 1930's. Quality made however there are no makers marks I can find. They take apart so they can be re-wired or even turned back to what I think they were.Gas lamps! I have fastened one to a base to show how they could look. The brass"Cup" at the top of the shade is one I found to fasten the globe onto, it is not original but I will include it with a pair of globes for your use. International shipping available. There is a cut out for the step at the bottom but is freestanding. The total measurements are 46.25 inches tall by 7.75 inches square at the base and 6 inches square at the shaft. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. It needs a final finish sanding and it needs a finial. For sale: This is an antique newel post stair baluster from the Victorian era. It stands 39" tall. Has a cannonball top 5.5" in diameter, and I believe it is made of oak. It has a cracked and chipped patina and is a sand over white. Although the cannonball top has a crack it is still very solid. One side has nail holes from its original installation.see photos. Wonderful boxed newel post with a foliate newel cap. Dating from the early 1900s. This box newel features a simple body with beaded trim panels, the upper ones embellished with flower rosettes. They were purchased in Iowa in the early 70's and have been used as decor pieces since(by themselves on a bookshelf or as bookends) They have their original paint and are in wonderful condition given their age. Big French Green Opaline Glass Newel Post Finial
A lovely old French Opaline Glass Newel Post Finial. The Finial is made from a pale green opaline glass and the fittings are brass. When the light passes through the glass it is translucent and has an attractive paneled design because of the ribs. The Finial is BIG at 7 1/2" high x 3 1/4" in diameter. It has a threaded hole on the bottom which is approximately 5/16" in diameter. It is in very good overall condition with no chips or cracks in the glass. The only thing to note is a small gap on the bottom of the glass where it meets the brass, it is very secure so it is probably in the making. The brass has 2 dents where someone used a tool to remove it from it's newel post, see photos. The finial looks great as a decorative accessory and would be perfect in a Victorian decor. Antique Vintage Wooden Newel Post#2 Staircase Turned Post Column This is one of two antique newel posts that were removed from a building in Pa. This newel post is quite heavy weighing 23 lbs unpacked. It is 51' tall. It is a hard wood and has close grains. Like a walnut or other hard wood. The wood is not soft. But dense. It has signs of age, a slight crack or two, nothing that would keep it from being reused. It does have a small section gone from the top of the post finial as seen in the pics. Lovely turnings on the post! The post is 4 7/8' around. I have listed the other newel post in my other auctions as well. FYI, I did not get the railing with these pieces, it is gone. Antique Vintage Newel Post#1 Hardwood Staircase Turned Corner Post Walnut? This is one of two antique newel posts that were removed from a building in Pa. This newel post is quite heavy weighing 26 lbs unpacked. It is also very tall@60¼' tall. You can see by the cut outs at the bottom and by the placement marks of the prior railings. That it was installed where the stairway turned. This post could be used in another stairway that is shorter by cutting off a section at the bottom. I have shown the measurements alongside the post in the photos below. I have also shown a small section where the natural wood shows. It is a hard wood and has close grains, like a walnut or other hard wood. The wood is not soft. But dense. It has signs of age, a slight crack or two, nothing that would keep it from being reused.
