Aged Gothic Newel Post / Handrail in Walnut
Up for auction is a beautiful Gothic newel post and handrail in Walnut. This has a great weathered look and would also be appropriate in a Garden. As the walnut should last many years. Post is in nice but weather condition with a small piece of walnut molding that makes up the Gothic arch missing as well as trim piece that is missing at the bottom. Post is 38" tall at the handrail, 45" tall at the newel finial attachment and 9" deep. Newel is 27" long. Post is approx. 75-lbs and will be hard to pack so this is a pick-up only item and or blanket wrapped at buyer's cost. Please see our other wonderful Victorian, architectural and eye-candy items.

Description This is a nice piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is made of walnut and is painted. The cap is not original. The top has carved flowers on 3 sides. The shaft is fluted with another carved flower in the middle. The corners have beveled edges. The base is notched for the step but it is freestanding. It measures 47.25 inches tall. It is 8 inches square at the base and 6.5 inches square at the shaft. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. Striking antique walnut newel post dating from the late 1800's. The newel begins with sloping top and fluted details. Intricate rosettes ornament each side of the square post. The rest of the newel's substantial silhouette features chamfered edges and grooved detailing. Antique chestnut wood newel post 48" tall historic vintage architectural salvage
Beautiful historic/ antique chestnut wood newel post. Post was painted black previously but has been completely hand refinished. Stained and polyurethaned and is in great condition! Exact age is unknown but is at least over 100 years old and still very sturdy! The bottom corner is notched to fit over the corner of a step(see photos) The newel post measures 4 feet tall and approx. 6" wide in the center section. There is a small portion of the circular rosette missing(see last photo) but is not noticeable at all. The side shown without the rosette is the side that the handrail would attach to.

Antique bronze lion with shield sculpture on marble base Newel Post
This unique bronze sculpture depicts a standing lion holding a shield in front of him. The sculpture looks quite old. 19 th century or before. It is on a rounded double base. We do not know the original use of this item. Maybe a newel post or a door knocker of some sort. The style makes us think it is English or Scottish. The bronze sculpture itself is 6 inches tall and with the marble base it is 7 inches tall. The marble base looks modern. It is in nice condition.

late 1800s fancy turned Balusters / large Newel post & handrail set oak?
This is a beautiful staircase set which dates to the late 1800s from a brownstone home in Harlem Newyork.It has a super nice large front newel post which is around 60inches tall and 11-1/2 inches at its widest part with a notch out for handrail and a small cutout at base for step.Then there are appxt 6 smaller newels for top of stairs then another for the end of that section and a few others if needed most are complete with 1 or 2 needing a top finial that was damaged over the years.The long handrails are in 5 sections at 10ft-9-1/2ft-6ft-6ft-3ft-the handrails are very nice at around 4 inches wide and 5 inches high with a grove in it for hand to wrap around as my hand shows in photo.They are not the common handrails you find and the balusters are very different as pictures show they are super nice.There are appxt 34 balusters which are 30 ... moreto 31 inches tall all depends how much you sink into bottom of handrail.They are also around 4 inches wide and have a very nice bottom finial to complete the design at bottom.There is 1 that is missing but this is a simple piece to replace.The smaller newels are 54-60-49-48 and 64 inches tall.They can be cut to fit your project or filled in with wood to complete the post by a qualified carpenter I have seen it done with other sets I have sold.This is a super period item that after incorporated in your home will be breath taking for sure.There is no paint on wood only stain and my guess is that it is oak wood but this is only my guess.I also have other sets from a home that was next door which is almost identical but made of I believe walnut or chestnut again only a guess.In this listing it is for what I have listed the other listings can be seen in my ebay store.Total balusters with the other listings are around 65 with more handrails and newels.This item is large and heavy so a pickup is ok but shipping will only be done if you can provide a shipper to pickup from my home.For any other info email or call Vinny 1-631-300-7403 thanks.

This is a beautiful lamp that is able to be used as a table lamp or a newel post lamp. It has stood for over a hundred years in a Minneapolis mansion as a newel post lamp at the foot of the main staircase. It truly is from the gas light era and is indeed a gas lamp. The figure is that of a patriot complete with the proper hat and musket. It is undamaged and the shade when lighted is magnificent. What a perfect lamp for a period restoration. Etc. It has it's original cap which is unpainted. 3 sides have fluting on the shaft. It is notched for the step but is freestanding. It measures 46.25 inches tall. 7 inches square at the base and 5.75 square at the shaft. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. This is a gorgeous Antique Turquoise/Blue Cut Glass and Brass Newel Post Finial. This Finial came from a southeastern Wisconsin Estate. It measures about 8 1/4 inches tall. Overall. It is in excellent condition(it has just a couple of small bubbles in it) No chips, cracks or repairs to the glass. The brass is very nice with a very nice patina. The finial weighs about 1 3/4 pounds. The finial has a slight list to it. It looks like when it was assembled or glued together, they did not set it in straight. I really think this could be reset in the brass base. Possibly by soaking the piece in gasoline or some other agent to dissolve the glue and then reset. It probably was never used and therefore the almost like new condition. Please see the last 2 pictures that show the slight list or misalignment. Antique Vintage Newel Post. Was told by the person I purchased it from that it came from a pre 1900's farm house that was torn down recently. He also told me that it was oak and believes it to be the original finish. It's in really good condition for being a hundred plus years old. There are a couple of blemishes from where it was attached to the rest of the railing including one crack at the bottom. All blemishes are pictured. Antique ARCHITECTURAL Salvage Oak NEWEL POST with Old Chippy White Paint Size: 45 3/4" tall x 8" x 8" overall(all measurements are approximate) Description: This whimsical antique newel post will add architectural interest to your home- the possibilities are endless. These are often seen only in decorator magazines and are hard to find. Even in antique stores. This is out of a Victorian mansion in the Los Angeles area. This one is wonderful and heavy with nice thick moldings and a whimsical details. The old white paint is all perfectly time worn. Shabby and chippy. You can see the original oak wood underneath in the photos, in places where the paint is worn off. It has been indoors for all of it's life so there is no dry rot that I sometimes see on wood that has been out in the elements. Though the paint is chippy and worn ... moreit is not'shedding' as some others are. There are carved wooden ribbon applique details on 3 sides- so romantic! Please see the photos of showing the cut out notches on the bottom of the back side. They are pretty much all this way when they are removed from a stairway(see last two photos) This could easily be filled in with some old wood or you can just turn that side toward the wall as I have. Even with the notched-out area on the base it still stands alone and is quite sturdy. There is also a rough area near the top on the back side where it was removed from the banister. There are a few minor age splits on the surface of the wood that are tight and do not distract- just adds to its character. Vintage carved oak newel post finial. The overall combination of carved and turned shapes gives this piece a very distinctive and visually appealing appearance.The medium dark oak finish has been cared for with hand rubbed oil for many years in my home. The splayed base is topped with a turned shaft that supports a wide circular turned and carved body element. The wide body tapers to a turned finial topped with a circular crown. MATCHING PAIR OF CARVED NEWEL POST CAPS: Very nice matching pair of hand carved newel post caps. Each side of a cap is deeply carved in an acanthus leaf design. The top element is a small segmented dome sitting on a flat base piece. Each corner of the base piece has a small circular corner ball. one corner ball is missing on one of the caps) The segmented dome is capped with a matching carved ball. The quality if the acanthus leaf design has been done with very good workmanship. Each cap is approx. 7 1/2" tall and 5 3/8" square. I am not sure of the wood type. It is a heavy. Densely grained wood, that is light in color. It could possibly be a light mahogany. The wood does have a dark mahogany stain with a satin varnished finish. ANTIQUE NOUVEAU SPELTER NUDE MERMAID NEWEL POST LAMP
This sale is for a beautiful antique art nouveau spelter mermaid lamp. The original bronzed patina is in remarkably good condition with no losses which is rare for a lamp this age.It measures approx. 13" tall to the top of the shade holder and the wooden base is 6" across. The lady is probably more of a sea nymph than a mermaid since she has fins on both legs. I estimate it to be around 1910-20. It is pictured with a Czech shade but the shade has a chunk out of the rim and has the tip broken off one of its points and is NOT included in the sale. There are lots of beautiful period shades with a 3 1/2" fitter size listed on e-bay which would look great on this lamp. The wiring looks newer than the lamp and it probably had a pull cord at one time since there is a hole in the shade holder to accommodate it. I think the switch at ... morethe back was added later. A Nashville restaurant built with repurposed materials, this piece features a turned body with grooved details and a stylized finial.
