Sargent 1930's mortise lock set with keys bungalow or atomic ranch
Solid brass and steel sargent lock from late 30's. Early 40's era. Kinda mid century modern in simple design, but a heavy look that could work in A&C's, mission or bungalow. Lock is set up for minimum of 1/3/4" doors, mortise is 1" thick so no doors thinner than 1 1/2" unless you build them up. 2 3/4" back set. A very under appreciated design that really shows the coming post war modern movement.

Privacy mortise lock with key. Lock body is heavy cast iron with solid brass face end plate. Face of lock measures 7/8" X 5 1/4" tall and 3/4" wide. Distance from door knob hub to center of key is standard 2 1/4 inches. Back set is 2 3/8 inches. Lock body recess is 3" X 3 1/2" tall and 3/4 inches thick. Weight is approx. 14 ounces. There is a manufacturers mark on bolt that is unknown to me. Shown in last photo. There are scratches to brass and chips to lock body. Functions smoothly. massive & hand wrought lock mortise mortice or swan neck 7/16" wood chisel
You are bidding on one lock mortise(or mortice) or swan neck wood chisel as pictured. It is unmarked. And clearly hand wrought. Blade width at the sharp end is about 7/16" The length of the steel portion from the sharp edge to the far end of the socket is about 17-7/8" The chisel is quite stout and weighs about a half ounce under 2 pounds on my postal scale. Including the wood handle. Condition of the steel portion of the chisel would be very good with some restoration. The sharp edge isn't at all sharp. With some small chips. The outside of the curved area has a lot of dings, and is mushroomed a bit as a result. There is some faint pitting scattered over the chisel, which will have no impact on its use. The large handle allows harder downward pressure than you could provide if you just held it in your hand. It also won't tip in your hand and stab you in the palm or finger. You just place the cylinder under the screwdriver tip on the non-slip rubber pad. With the cylinder set in place on the rubber pad, push down as hard as you need to and while holding the cylinder from turning, while pushing down, turn the knob to start the screw turning, the large knob gives you a greater grip and helps keep the screwdriver tip from riding out of the screw which would round it out. A slow heavy maintained downward pressure while turning till the screw starts to turn will work wonders and you will wonder how you ever got along without this before. If you intend to do lock rekeying you will run into many. Many stuborn screws. If it's just one cylinder for that day it will tick you off. Antique Mortise Lock Hardware New Haven Conn Patented May 6, 1868
Great antique mortise door lock/ hardware. This piece has a patent date on it of May 6. 1868. It is marked on the opposite side with what looks like N V& Co. New Haven. The mortise has some surface rust mainly on one side. The mortise measures about 5 3/4" in height and 4 1/8" wide with a thickness of about 1 1/8" at the lip, and 7/8" on the inside. Please note the condition is consistent with the age. Most of my items are vintage, and will show some signs of wear associated with age. Please do not expect a vintage item to look new.
