Up for auction is this gorges Herschede Westmins ter wall or shelf clock.It works fantastic and has a gorges chime on the hour and half hour. It measures 22 in x 11 in x5 1/2 in. On the back of the gears it says 101 jewels. One leg needs to be put back on the back leg is missing. The key is with it. It also has a gold colored plague on the front that says The James B Longley Agency. The presidents trophy winner 1969.New England life.Quick fix up. It can be removed i f you know what you are doing. I think it can just be pulled off. But I do not want to do it. There may be some light surface scratches but I do not see any. I just purchased this lovely vintage clock from a local estate sale. It is a 31 day clock made by Alaron in Korea. I was told it worked well and was from the 60's or 70's. It does have the key and is in nice condition. It worked for 2 days then stopped. I did restart it for a little while until I packed it. I am not familiar with clocks so it may need a cleaning? It has a lever to shut off the chimes. It can be either wall mounted or placed on a mantle. I could not find anything close to it on Ebay. It was named after the town in which it was built(it was originally Plymouth Hollow before the town was renamed Thomaston– after Seth Thomas in 1865! It is a very classy mantle clock in need of a warm loving home. It was made circa the 1920s. It has its original 8-day time and strike movement. Movement 89– Seth Thomas’ best time and strike movement, which chimes on the half-hour and counts the hours on the hour on 2 chime rods with a beautiful sound. The movement runs very well and keeps good time. The movement was just cleaned. Oiled, pivots polished and bushings added where needed. This clock will not need servicing for many years to come. And is ready for the next 100 years! This is a labor intensive service, with many clockmakers charging 250.00 ... moreand up. We recommend having it oiled every 2 to 3 years to keep it in tip-top shape! Description This beautiful clock has been professionally serviced and is in very good running condition. It counts the hours with a deep. Rich mellow tone on the cathedral gong. Half hours are also indicated by a single strike to the gong. The adamantine surface has been gently cleaned. There is a tiny spot of possible paint drip on the front and one or two other spots relative to 100+ years of aging. The case is still very attractive and any issues are minimal. Please examine the pictures. The black and"Brazilian Onyx" adamantine surfaces are in very good shape, with no cracks, delamination or missing pieces. When received. The front glass and part of the dial were missing, necessitating their replacement. The new dial has an almond color background. Although not wavy, the replacement glass is from old stock. On the bottom of the ... morecase one can see the faint date stamp from Seth Thomas. They would stamp the year in reverse numbers, then add a letter for the month. The letter is too faint to see, but the 9981 is visible. The movement was professionally serviced in February. 2013. It was completely disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned, then the pivots and escapement pallets were polished. 12 bushings were installed and adjusted for proper fit. It was reassembled and lubricated with synthetic oil for years of service. The pendulum bob appears original, and the key is a modern replacement. The rigors of shipping. The base comes in black marble in an incredible good condition. The 2 balls at each sides of the clock are also made of marble. The materials mentioned above lead to a well balanced. Chique and above all impressive piece. You will most definately NOT find another clock like this! Having a windable. 8 days movement with a pendulum driven movement! The movement is MARKED with the 1 Million type and the Lenzkirch Mark"AUG" clock experts amoung us know the added value this movement gives to the clock. The movement has the serial number"56/ 728912" Which leads directly to the year of manufactury December 1909-January 1910. This beauty is running ... moregreat and keeps accurate time; Lenzkirch managed to decrease the tick/tock sound to a minimum. Especially with the material(brass) this clock is made of. This quieteness is a luxury. A loud tick/tock would result in an echo. In the front of the clock you find bronze decoration. Which a very deatailed and beautifully shaped. This decorative piece and the(engraved) surrounding of the window. Through which the pendulum can be seen, are made out of 1 piece of bronze! Again a hugh amount of design and workmanship skills. The pendulum is also made of bronze and is richly decorated. The cartouches on the dial are an artwork on its own. The window through which the pendulum can be seen is faceted and extreme thick; the shape it has been made in says it all. The brass. Arabic numbers have been placed in cut marble, a technique which I have never seen before. The hands come in bronze and match perfectly to the pre-Art_deco stye it is made in. I had two of these and when I took the other into the clock shop for repairs recently the clockmaker told me it was originally from Liverpool at the turn of the century. Then was sold in England. The principal is the atmospheric pressure changes causes the bellows expansion and contraction which winds the clock. The clock comes with ths original manual and instructions as well as the original shipping box. The box buckle has been broken because we didn't store it very well. The clock has performed perfectly for us. We have had it wall mounted and leveled on a beautiful old maple shelf.
