Vintage Lightning Rod w/Ball & Directionals. Nice Small Size! Folk Art Whimsy.
There is no reserve on this great old lightning rod. Up for auction is this great small-size lightning rod with ball and directionals. We don’t know the age for sure. But we think the 1950’s. It was probably assembled. Due to its nice small size, it would fit anywhere in your home, particularly since it is mounted on a handsome piece of beveled mahogany. Unfortunately, someone started to put two screws in the bottom of the base and they raised the wood underneath the bracket a bit. The blue 8-sided ball with indented belt is in good condition with no chips or cracks, but has some normal roughness along each hole. There are no identifying marks except for“11-A” on the roof bracket. The directionals appear to be aluminum sitting atop a copper collar. There is one small tab missing on the underside of the E-W directional. We wonder if this whimsy ... morewasn't assembled to mark the passing of an old barn. More and more of these grand old structures are giving way to metal clad pole buildings in the American Midwest. Please study the photos as they are your best guide. The measurements are: base is 16" x 6. From the bottom of the base to the top of the spike is 19 ½. The directionals are 13” across. We only accept PayPal as payment. Cast iron arrow has a rope twist stem and originally held and animal. It is bent. Has a crack near the arrow and b rackets that held the animal are broken. Cranberry Glass globe has a swirl design. I don't know if this can be heated& bent back to it s or iginal shape or not. I don't know if a collector would even want to! Its shape makes it unique. And it could still screw on to p of a lightning rod or weathervane; the threaded part doesn't appear to be damaged whatsoever. None of the point tips are broken- they are all bent though; some forward. Some back. I'm not an expert- the collectors know what this is and what it's made of. I have not attempted to clean it whatsoe ver. There are two areas on the top( longest) point that are nicked. As you can see in the pictures. 9 Vintage Glass Lightning Rod Ground Wire Insulators With Wall Mounts
These glass insulators have some normal chipping but nothing real severe. They could use a good cleaning. These are very light in color.kind of a clear with a light blue one way you look and a bit of a light greenish blue also but again very light.just a cast of color. I think the yellowish look that shows up a bit is just from some rust(from the wire and the cable rubbing against it) that kind of shines through when the light hits it. The iron wall mounts are good condition with no breaks or cracks. You are buying all 9 glass insulators and all 9 wall mounts for one money with no reserve.

Antique Lightning Rod, Milk Glass Globe, Verdigris Copper Point. Nice Cond.
This is a very attractive old lightning rod with a milk glass globe. Telescoped up. It stands approximately 61 1/2" and, when down, about 51" The milk g lass globe. With copper flanges top and bottom, is about 4 1/2" in diameter. T wo legs on each side are twisted in a spiral way to form the two side supports. And the telescoping rod with a collar and set screw is held in place between these two spiral supports. The coll ar. I'm assuming, is loosened and slid down the shaft to hold the rod in an extended position. The coll ar is tight on the shaft. And I did not try to add lubrication to loosen it so it slides easily up and down the shaft. I don't know how these are set up and grounded. But there is a notched tab at the bottom of the shaft which I imagine accommodates some kind of grounding wire. The leg spread at the ... morebottom is about 8" x 10" I imagine they can be sprung, if necessary. To wider dimensions for mounting. This is a very attractive old piece with very little rust. Rare Vintage Standing Horse Weathervane. This copper/bronze horse weathervane measures 23 inches long. The horse it's self is 10 1/2 inches long and 9 1/2 inches tall. Hard to find this very old thin hollow bodied standing horse vane. When the old Michigan barn came down.He came down with it. His tail was broken off and lost in the barn pile of timbers and barn boards. His body was flattened some as well. These old standing horse vanes were not really thick to start with. They are made of two matching pieces clipped and sodiered together. Collectors know this is a very old horse as it is on the very old twisted wire arrow. It is in the milk glass blue color with swirls similar to slag glass. And is in excellent condition. There is some normal roughness on each end of the ball, but it can easily be covered with caps. For your consideration is this beautiful antique copper Weathervane of Sulky Horse& Jockey. This old weathervane exhibits great patina! Included with with Jockey and Sulky weather vane is the matching directionals with 2 copper/ brass balls all mounted with a rod. This is a large weathervane measuring 49" tall. 31 inches long and 9" wide. This weathervane is in great overall condition. It does exhibit a few bends and dings here and there which is to be expected with a piece of this age. It has spent its life in the elements perched upon a barn in Mooresville Indiana which gives it that great patina. It appears to have had a few repairs made where a few solders broke loose. 4 Vintage Glass Lightning Rod Ground Wire Insulators With Wall Mounts
These glass insulators are kind of light bluish- greenish but very pale. One is VERY good condition. Nice clean and bright with very minor chips. The other 3 have a little paint that needs cleaned off and about the only damage is some chipping on the 4 knobs on top, as the sides and bottom ring are in good condition. The 4 metal wall mounts are real nice. They just have some paint on them. You are buying all for one money and there is no reserve.

Greenish color but very pale, with 3 metal wall mounts, plus 1 ring for a glass lightning rod ball and 5 brass or copper screw in clamps that screw in the bottom of a lightning rod to hold the lightning rod cable. Not exactly sure if this is a lightning rod or some other kind of grounding rod. Folds on a hinge like joint. All soild copper except for a steel hex head bolt on which the rod pivots. Marked“D& S Des Moines” The rod will fold down completely but will only open as shown. A few degrees shy of full extension. It binds at this point and I don’t want to force it all the way. In the open position the overall length is about 30½” folded down, it’s about 23” As found, not cleaned. Couple of very light shallow dents in rod otherwise no damage.

This lightning rod is very old- all of the iron parts are rusty and the copper? finial has great green patina. A strong magnet does not stick to the finial. The twisted iron is one solid piece. Not wires twisted together. It measures 51 1/2" tall, has a 3 legged base, and stands on its own. The twisted rod moves freely up and down in the base guides. The finial is marked KRETZER ST. Light Purple glass 4 1/2" diameter lightning rod ball - FRESH FROM THE FARM
LIGHT PURPLE GLASS 4 1/2" DIAMETER LIGHTNING ROD BALL Fresh from the farm. I found several lightning rod balls this last weekend. This one is a light purple colored glass. It is 4 1/2 inches in diameter and a total of 5 inches tall. The inside diameter of the rod hole is 1 3/16 of an inch. Unfortunately. Some fine young man decided to use this one for target practice for his BB gun. Otherwise it is in good shape for it's age with very minor chips on the ends where the insulators are placed. That seems to be pretty normal for these balls. Because of the condition of this one, the bidding starts at only $9.99. It will look very good in a collection. Because I sell in"as is, as found" condition, there will be no returns on this product.
