All I remember about this item is I purchased it off Ebay 10 years ago for 95.00. I remember it was pre 1900 and the person had photos of where it was from. It came off a victorian house in Pennsylvania. I dont have the photos anymore. I was going to use it for a mixed media art project but never got around to it. The paint looks original as it has a nice patina going, but it is possible that it is a very old re-paint. Looks great nevertheless! I left the patina on the metal and glass undisturbed. Very Rare, Early Vintage 3.5" Ruby Glass Lightning Rod Ball, Embossed On Rim
This is a very rare 3.5" Ruby Glass Ball with fluted ribs. It looks to have the correct embossing on rim; it is faint. But you can make out"PAT JULY.77" This came out of my Grandparents Estate. He was an electrician and rod installer from roughly 1940-1980. This was packed up in his barn with other items. Also, I sold the another of this type ball awhile back to a collector and he confirmed it authenticity. So, with all that, I'm confident that this is an original and not a reproduction. WHITE PLEATED MILK GLASS LIGHTNING ROD BALL FASHIONED INTO LAMP
This lamp was put together with elements from at least three sources. The base is cobalt. The neck is deep purple, and the connector and cap are brass. The pleated white milk glass lightning rod insulator is the outstanding feature. The total lamp makes an attractive shelf piece if you don't scrutinize it too closely as there is some paint used to cover adherent. It is 10 1/2" tall from base to cap. The bottom edge of the base shows some irregularities.

ANTIQUE c.1900 CAST IRON and COPPER WEATHER VANE ARROW 28 1/2" LENGTH Great old cast iron weather vane directional arrow. Figural arrow has a center double loop where it can be placed on a lightening rod or pole. The opposing end of the arrow is thick copper and was made so an animal or figure could be mounted to it. The cast iron arrow and copper rod are riveted together in the center. This appears to be all original and is all very old but solid and free of cracks or damage. Some typical pitting in the cast iron as shown. The overall length is 28 1/2" With the arrow portion measuring about 16 inches long and the copper rod portion measuring about 12 1/2 inches long. This arrow is from the same estate and building as our recently sold copper horse weathervane was. Please review photos to assess condition. This rare vintage clear red lightning rod ball is in very good condition. No chips or cracks. It came off of an old Ohio livestock barn that was built in 1910. The globe is 5 1/2 inches tall stem to stem. It has a 1 1/4 inch rod hole.The circumference is 14 inches. We have for your viewing and bidding pleasure an antique lightning rod globe. It is made out of white porcelain thick glass. It is about 5” high by 5” wide. The globe is round in shape. It is in good condition with no breaks or cracks. The glass has swirled markings and a thin mold marking on each side. This is from the making of the globe. Where the rod goes through on one end it is just a little slightly rough with 3 little flake chips and on the other end it has a lot of little flea bite flake chips. Normally when the globe is installed on the lightning rod there is a metal collar that goes around the holes where the lightning rod goes through. We do not have any of those. This is a vintage piece that came out of my grandparents estate. He was a lightning rod installer from roughly 1940-1980. I'm not certain how old this piece is. But I would guess Pre-1970. It looks to me like its brass with a chromed point. It is 10" long. I'm guessing this came out of his stock and looks unused/NOS. Antique lightning rod ball: 4 1/4 inches tall. Milk glass, open at each end(for lightning rod to pass through) glass at openings is sheared. I'm told that this style is called"door knob. Original ANTIQUE Mold used to make plain round lightning rod balls THIS mold made plain 4 1/2 dia balls probably used in the 1930s best guess maybe before because has slightly flared straight ends or collars? THE mold is heavy cast iron(65 pounds plus) has Roderfer embossed on top. The rods are approx. 11" long, some are bent but could be rebent straight and attached to the stands that are stamped West Dodd Co, Goshen Ind. Copper Lightning Rod with BMG Ball
Up for Auction is a Copper Lightning Rod with Blue Milkglass Ball. The copper rod is in two separate pieces that measures 56 inches in its brace clamp iron stand. The iron stand has been spray painted black. And the top brace clamp is not original to this stand it is a modern clamp, see picture#4. The lightning rod ball is a blue milkglass globe that measures 4 1/2" wide with 1" diameter collar openings, the globe has a 3/4" piece out of the bottom collar, and chips out of the top collar but no cracks.
