1898 Edison 2-Latch Suitcase Standard Cylinder Phonograph Exc Condition
An original excellent condition 1898 Edison Standard 2 latch suitcase model cylinder phonograph. The phonograph case is made of oak with its untouched original finish and has somehow survived without a crack in the top lid which is the case with near all of these you find. The phonograph retains its original factory baked on enamel finish with gold pin striping and with a strong clear Edison signature decal. The reproducer on the machine is a model C and the machine comes with a so called witches hat steel and brass horn which is a quality reproduction(seam on interior of horn where as on originals its on the exterior) The machine also has its original crank and is in excellent working order. The machine is overall in excellent condition but one of the two original latches being weak(which is why it probably survived without a split in the ... moretop as it was picked up from underneath instead of by the handle) A very nice example of the earliest varient of the Edison Standard model A phonograph which is completely fresh to the market from the estate of an old time collector. Looks like cast iron and when you press the button the latch sticking out the back moves to the side to release. The second piece is a drop pull and has a pressed brass backplate and a cast brass drop. The third is a fancy tassel with a screw on top.
