Antique Victorian 19th Cent. CAST IRON GATE & 5 ORNATE FENCE POSTS ++
BEFORE BIDDING please read our terms and pick up location in Northwest New Jersey toward the end of our description. DESCRIPTION: This lot was all found in a barn. There were no more pieces or fencing. 5-19th Century Fence Posts with Gate and an addition ornate piece from the fenceing. Possibly even well back into the 1800's. Even Civil War period.The fence post are gorgeous, the least one weighs is 78 lbs. they are heavy. The gate a bit on the plain side but early. It appears the posts were connected by pipes and the pipes went through the ornate pieces. But only one great ornate piece left. Now it appears it will take a little imagination and ingenuity to put these posts and gate to good use. Possibly even plugging holes in the posts and attaching to other fenceing. The posts are approx. 47 1/2" tall. The gate is approx. 51" ... moretall and 37 1/7" wide not counting latches. The gate has a slideing latch that looks like it went into a flat bar attached to one post. But the wired that and added that hand wrought large flip latch on the other side so I'm not sure what they did there. The posts have just a few small chips that are not a distraction. One post has a series of small holes near the top, not a big issue,these are thick heavy and strong. Rust is not bad at all, they were stored dry. The top of the gate is bent some and you will see one piece of curled flat iron broken off. If that bothers you it's as easy as it gets to weld a piece on before painting. Last I will mention the flat bar that the latch goes into does need a spot weld. As you can see, top finials must be tightened down. Exactly as found. For pick up, your dealing with between 500& 600 lbs. of iron. Some photos are a bit dark in the shade but please enlarge all 12 photos and you should have a pretty good look. Antique Fancy 1890 Buckeye Cast Iron Fence Gate w Crest Serpents Axes+More NR
I am very pleased to bring you the first of two great cast iron gates that recently came out of the same estate in Western New York that is to me a piece of true Americana and the maker has a great history. Before I start about the gate I just want to share a little background on the maker which was the Buckeye Co of Springfield Ohio. THis was a progressive state of the art facility in the last quarter of the 19th century that made all kinds of wonderful things that included Buckeye pressure water pumps. State of the art farm implements and Iron Turbine Wind Engines plus of course fencing. It was origianlly called Mast, Foos, Co and they were great makers of anything cast iron that would improve life in America and on the farm. So when I say its a piece of Americana.I will let you do some research and there is a lil background on the maker ... moreand company. Now the fence is in excellent condition for age and has a fancy crest which includes a double serpent motiff accented by Midevil axes and fancy scroll work. The gate has its original gate release and even has its original brass handle which has a super patina from age. In addition there is the gate post rod that has the spear finial so you can hang on your own pole or post and it will be cohesive and be the same. If you look the rods are not bent and I can find no breaks, repairs or cracks in any of the body or gate itself. I do like the rounded corners and it gives it a sense of design from The Victorrian period which it came from. Please look at all the pictures and know I am listing another gate along with post and more unique items here at the place where more people are saying they had a great antique-experience!

Up for auction NO RESERVE*The iron fence. Gate and posts are local pick-up only- Doylestown, PA 18902* No shipping. IS AN ANTIQUE IRON ORNATE STAR DECORATED FENCE. GATE& POSTS. You get the following pieces at are in the photos. 1 lovely antique iron gate- The gate is 41 1/2" tall and 33 1/2" wide including the latch/opening part. 2 long sections- one is 7 feet 4 inches long and has bent pieces that you can see in the photos. The other long section is 6 feet 11 1/2 inches long and has a missing rod at the end that you can see in the photos. 3 large and very heavy posts. Each post is 48" tall and has a base diameter of about 4 1/2" The posts have eight sides. One post has been painted. The second post is rusted and unpainted. The 3 post which I think may be the gate post is cracked around the post. But not broken into ... more2 pieces- also the middle bracket is broken off and that has been wired to the top so it does not get lost. I believe the post can be repaired by a good welder who knows how to repair old iron. I have owned these beauties for over 12 years- we just never got around to putting them in our garden.
