Hello! Thank you for joining us in order to preview an exceptionally scarce and highly distinctive. Antiquarian cast iron farm/garden hardware keepsake for the farm house decorative accent, the collection or rustic restoration project. Offered here is an original(circa 1890-1920) cast iron Baby Chick, that has apprently lost her mother hen. Not knowing the exacting history behind this wonderful piece of cast iron; the little chick may have been part of an advertising sign or display at the regional grain store or farm/livestock jobber? The antiquarian farm animal(4 1/8" height x 2 1/8" base diameter) is open at the bottom, resembling what one may find with early fence post and garden gate finials. The early cast iron hatchling could possibly be put to use as a door stop; being quite hefty for its size. The antiquarian baby chick ... moreaffords the farm collector, some very nice detailing from the top of her head to her little feet, wading through the grass. The baby chicken shows some obvious patina, predominantly at the base and collar interior/edges(see pics) There is a small hole at the toes of the baby chick as well. Large Ancanthus Urn Gilt Metal Finial, Architectural or Garden
I don't know what this was originally used for. It is a lovely Classically inspired finial in the figural form of an Urn decorated with Acanthus Leaves. The finial is made of gray metal with remnants of a gilt finish. It is mounted to a cast iron"post" Overall dimensions are 11 1/2" high. 7" without the post x 3 3/4" in diameter, it is heavy at approximately 2 1/2 pounds. The Urn Finial is in very good overall condition. The only thing to note is a very small and shallow dent on the bottom edge which you won't notice once it is mounted. 1880s Victorian Cast Iron Crane Stork Bird Vintage Garden Nice Rust Patina
rats nest template Many years ago I was asked by an elderly friend to clean debris from the basement of her Queen Anne Victorian home by the Muskingum River. Marietta, Ohio. This bird was buried in mud and wood scraps in the back of the basement. The bird parts measure 16 inches long for the head/neck piece, 16 inches long for the body and the legs are 16 inches tall. If you look closely where the head joins the neck you can see a piece of metal is missing. The screw that attaches the body to the head is rusted and stuck. Looking closely you can see that 2 spots of metal have been broken off the points of the"skirt" of the body and the legs have been snapped off of the body and those screws are frozen as well. A lot of damage, yes, but still a really hard piece of cast iron 1880s Victorian history to find. Ya gotta find em to buy'em ... moreboys" as my favorite auctioneer was want to say. This statue measures 25" tall and is 6"wide and weighs a heavy 20 lbs. Give or take but w hat is truly unusual is the statue is more square than round but is obviously very tall and slender. Also. Most tall statues have a seam where the mold has been disassembled but this statue does not- there are no ugly chisel marks The texture is so smooth too from general erosion from the original antique but unlike that item which was clearly deteriorating this casting is secure and 100% intact. But what I find really special is the classic patina. It is a traditional antique creamy weathered white. Very sophisticated color! Best of all. It is not made of chintzy resin or chippy plaster but is solid concrete stone so it is safe to use outdoors but elegant enough for indoors. The circa 1940's Framed painting is signed"Esther" measures 10"H x 7 1/2"W. Small enough for a tiny area or as part of a larger wall arrangement. When I bought the framed painting with glass many years ago the frame's Gesso design was badly damaged at the top, did a bit of repair/paint, but,not too much as I do not like old items to look new. Could easy be paint retouched if buyer desires. I took the painting apart to photograph as the glass glare prevented showing the lovely brush strokes in the flowers.
