Penn Antique Restoration. 55"x48" Antique Red Oak Victorian Fireplace Mantel Magnificent. Antique, solid, red oak fireplace mantel salvaged from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mantel has a wonderful Victorian style design. Each leg has a fluted and reeded pilaster. Notice the curved. Upper portions-what great accents! Directly above the pilasters are 8"x8" nooks with lovely, turned balusters in front. There is a raised panel with carved floral motif along the back wall of each nook carved. Spanning across the body is a series of carved, flowers in bloom. The chamfered sides of the shelf also nice Victorian accents. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The mantel was covered under several layers of paint, and a thick layer of stain and varnish(see photos under"Prior to restoration" In order to remove the paint. ... moreStain and finish in the corners and hard to reach places, we had to take apart the whole mantel. We hand-scraped and sanded each piece, and then put them back together with new nails, drywall screws, and boards on the back acting as stiffeners. Now, the mantel is stronger and sturdier than ever! Condition: The mantel is in great condition. There is a small piece about 1" H. Which broke off of the lower, inner corner of the right leg, but otherwise, there are only small nicks, scrapes, and scratches in various parts of the mantel. Most will sand-out during the prep-sanding phase, prior to applying stain, or could filled with wood putty prior to painting. Refinishing: We have refinished several. Victorian Stick & Ball Mahogany Fireplace Mantel w/Shelves & Mirrors 82"H x 60"W
We are pleased to offer to the market this beautiful antique fireplace mantle. This piece has great character and dates to the Victorian era. This piece measures 82" High x 60 3/16" at the widest point and it has a depth of 10.5" The mantle back has the main center mirror flanked by two smaller mirrors with shelves on the sides. The front of the mirror has turned& reeded columns holding a shelf above it. There are attached cornice pieces above the two smaller mirrored sections that are topped with a stick& ball design. This same design is also found on the crest at the top center of the mantle. There are hand carved medallions and curliques on this piece as well. This is a gorgeous mantle that will definately make a statement in a room. There are age and use appropriate scratches. Dings, divets, cracks, repairs, and ... moreother marks on this piece. There was only one unattached shelf bracket, but someone can have a wood craftsman duplicate another one to match booth sides if they so choose. The mirrored frame piece(I believe) was originally made to swivel for a large dresser, but solid brackets are now attached to the back to make this piece stationary since there was also no original hardware that came with it. The wood was faded from years of neglect in a bright storeroom as seen by the bracket shelf, but the mirror frame has been refinished with a clear natural stain to bring out the original color of the walnut wood. The photos show more of a reddish tint to the color, but it’s really a warm medium brown tone. It was very difficult to photograph in my office. Overall wood condition is very good, no splits, cracks, chunks missing, mold or rot. Although our price is reflective of these modifications.
