Up for your consideration is a beautiful Antique Cast Iron Roman Column Pillar Bookends. These eye-catching detailed bookends are very heavy weighing approx. 7 pounds together. The well-made bookends show six Roman Column Pi llars supporting a detailed triangular roof with hunter green enamel paint. The bookends are not marked. But could possibly be Bradley& Hubbard. The y are in good condition with no cracks or repairs. There is wear to the enamel paint consistent with age and has slight hints of rust. But nothing glaring. This curious and interesting piece is a classically shaped chalice made of a hard resin substance. The shape is very appealing with a gracefully shaped urn on a stepped pedestal. The scrolled handles have columns cascading upward. There are beautiful designs on the fourth tier of the piece and raised fleur de lys shaped designs on the top. It in are very deep blues and whites with a floral and scroll patterned edge. The center is a scene with Roman columns near water. There is an impressed mark on the back with"ironstone" spelled out. There is a blue transfer mark with a Phoenix bird above a scroll& giving the pattern, maker, and Longton. The plate is in excellent condition with one minor chip to the right edge on back side, not affecting its front, and with some craculature aging to the back glaze. What IS it? A set of antique hand-carved fluted Corinthian columns from a Philadelphia home built in 1887. There are two free-standing columns and two sets of two columns each that go against a wall. The two freestanding columns are round. The two sets of columns that go against a wall are square with five flutes across the fron t of each and four flutes on each side. The carving on these columns is very fine and beautifully executed. How big? Height is 79 3/8 inches. Width of capitals at their widest is 8 1/2 inches. Following the flower are twelve columns of pineapples around the center. Between each of the twelve pineapple columns are chains and treble crochets. The actual edges have twelve fan-shaped identical motifs crocheted with treble crochets. That forms a very gentle scalloped edge filled with picots. The fireplace has a very textured surface which is gilded and a coppery gold in color. The insert grate has columnal design which is reminiscent of the Greek Parthenon or Roman Pantheon. The removable summer cover door has a knob on each side. This unit is in very good condition with minimal evidence of age. Nice set of 2 very old salvage Lathe Turned Victorian Columns or Pilasters for many furniture applications. Decorating, creating or restoration. These came off a dresser from the 1860's that was too far gone to restore. The overall measurements of each pilaster is 25 inches high by 3 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches deep. They are flat backed but If you put them back to back, they form a round column 3 inches in diameter. They are in excellent condition with normal age wear and tear.
