Antique cast iron fireplace grate on legs in usable condition
A vintage cast iron fireplace grate in fair condition for its age. With no major damage, but somewhat rusty. It stands on legs and has a raised front. There does seem to be some lettering, but I can't read it. The grate would benefit from a little cleaning and refurbishment. The width at the front is about 380mm(15" reducing to 260mm(10.25" at the back. Maximum depth at the centre is 270mm(10.5"

1870s-1910 Cast Iron Victorian Floor&Ceiling Grate Vent&Louver-2 PC Fancy-16x11
These came out of an 1870s. 2 story house& were being used together even though the pattern doesn't match exactly. The one w/the louvers was in an opening in the floor of an upstairs bedroom while the flat one, without the louvers, was covering an opening on the ceiling in the room directly below& they were lined up to make a unit. Before central heating became the standard. These were in all old homes, usually located next to a chimney flue to let the heat from a free standing stove rise to the upstairs. The outside dimensions are 16 inches long x 11 inches wide. The size of the louver box is 13.5 x 8.5. So the hole in the floor would need to be a little bigger than that to allow ease of clearance to set it in. If you'll be using them as they were intended. Hi and welcome to my auction. For your bidding consideration is an antique/ vintage used Victorian era cast iron round louvered register. Grate or vent. The grate measures approximately 9-3/8” across the top and 7-5/8” across the louvered bottom. This has no maker's mark on it except for the number 8 cast on various parts. Based upon this and some calculations, I figure this would fit in a hole between 8" and 8-1/8" in diameter. The ornate top has the remnants of a black painted surface. Condition is very good, there are no cracks, repairs or noticed damage. Picture number 12 shows a close-up of what I consider to be a manufacturing process line- it appears to be a solid, horizontal seam BUT NOTHING MORE. The louvers work fine, moving back-and-forth with just the use of my pinkie finger. This could use some additional surface ... morepreparation before applying a fresh coat of paint. Up for sale is an original antique ornate round cast iron heat louvered register floor grate vent stamped"W.G. Creamer NY. Pat. Sep. 14, 1869" on the bottom of one of the louvers. This antique heating floor grate was recently removed from an 1880's central New Hampshire farmhouse. It has some thickly layered gray paint on the top. It measures 9.5" in diameter and sits about 2.25" high. There are three louvers and easily adjust(it looks like a small piece from the handle mechanism may have broken off and the adjustment handle is stuck in place from all the layers of paint) It is in as found condition with areas of rust, paint chipping, discoloration and other age related wear. There is a rough area on 1 of the honeycombs. There is a small area of rust on the under side. I am not exactly sure what this piece is. But I believe it to be some type of grate, perhaps a piece from an old train. It is cast iron, with bronze or brass plating, and weighs in at 4.4 lbs. As you can see from the photo of the underside, the bronze or brass is quite evident where I wiped; other than that spot and a quick rinse, I have not cleaned anything. Here for your consideration are a group of cast iron grates that were one used in an industrial process setup to be repurposed as garden pavers. The bluegreen brass dust will wear off and the pieces will rust. being over 1/4 inch thick they should last decades. I have been combining industrial and natural components on my rough urban garden floor and the rusted steel diamond plates randomly placed make an interesting practical design and nice contrast. These grates could be utilized the same way. Placing them randomly or lay them forming a path, letting vegetation grow through and among them. Only one's imagination is the limit. This is a stunningly large antique solid cast iron Gothic style fireplace fender. it is made fro thick cast iron and is extremely heavy. it has a thick layer of black paint and a beautiful hammered finish. it has 3 iron rails that wrap the whole side of the fender and has very large spike tipped pillars. it measures 46 1/4 inches long by 15 inches back to front by 11 inches tall in great shape. Antique Victorian CAST IRON Heat LOUVER Register GRATE Vent-16x11-Ornate
This came out of an 1870s. 2 story house& it was being used with another flat, same size grate in the room below. That other flat grate is being sold separately. The patterns of the 2 don't match exactly but from 1 room to another, it isn't noticeable. This offering is for the one w/the louvers. Which was in an opening in the floor of an upstairs bedroom while the flat one, without the louvers, was covering an opening on the ceiling in the room directly below& they were lined up to make a unit. Before central heating became the standard. These were in all old homes, usually located next to a chimney flue to let the heat from a free standing stove rise to the upstairs. The outside dimensions are 16 inches long x 11 inches wide. The size of the louver box is 13.5 x 8.5. So the hole in the floor would need to be a little bigger ... morethan that to allow ease of clearance to set it in. The flat piece without the louvers is also 16 x 11. The bottom of the louvered one is marked'M M& F Milwaukee Wis' This louvered one weighs 12.5 pounds. The shipping cost does include insurance. Local buyers may pick up. Great restoration pieces!
