These were taken off the house. The paint is slightly flaking if you buff it but is mostly adhering still. Loads of character and charm. Pieces are solid and not in a decaying or crumbly state at all. Paint has helped preserve this old wood even with long term exposure. There are only two posts with old cast iron porch flag tie down hooks on them as pictured close up. Each post is different and unique with typical wear that would be naturally indigenous to this period and stature. 6 Antique Balusters Sawn Porch Railing Gingerbread Victorian Baluster Salvaged
Antique Baluster 6 Sawn Cutout Porch Hand Rail Balusters Gingerbread Victorian Primitive 6 Antique Balusters Sawn Porch Railing Gingerbread Victorian Handrail Baluster Pieces New England Estate Sale- Hartford CT area demolition salvage. Please see pictures as they are an important part of the description. Photos show two of the balusters but there are 24 in all- 6 offered in this sale. Due to damage to the rail itself. Some if the twelve balusters may have softness towards one of their ends. The softness is only about 1" or so up from their ends so it can be cut off. Some of the bottoms have chunks of wood detached or missing where the grain lines separated in the soft areas. All have multiple layers of paint on them; creamy white underneath the latest coat of gray/green. The paint is peeling off in thick layers in some area and not ... moreat all in other areas. There is still a lot of use left in them otherwise I wouldn't be listing them. Great for a railing project, decorative railing, arts and crafts project, photography. The balusters have a nice distressed look to them. With diamond and triangle or half diamond cut outs. They measure about 17.75" tall, 5.5" across at the top and bottom, and the width is about 1.25" deep. EACH baluster weights about 1 lb 10 ounces. I have not cleaned these balusters but they are not very dirty. They were stored on a porch out of the rain and are in quite good shape for repurposing. As mentioned previously. The 24 medium size ones are 31 1/2" long without the piece that goes inside the rail. The bases are 8 1/2" long and 2" square. The 9 longest ones are 32" long. The bases are 9 1/4" long and 2" square. There are 2 misc size pieces. They are on the smaller. I'm not sure what type of wood they are. these are in nice shape they have a little weather but the wood in not punky they do have nails. top and bottom are from a stair case and the corner post is complete the extra piece gave extra support. this is a very nice bunch. These came out of a house that was built in 1920 and they were going to burn it down. if a dimension is critical ask me to double check i can make a mistake i have made one so please ask. if you do not ask i have plus or minus inches 3.5" thanks for understanding. if you need ask a question and i will do my best to answer it. Offered are 4 antique porch railing spindles or balusters. They are about 27" long(3/4" of that being a dovetail) and the larger place is 1-3/8" wide. They are made of cherry wood and have previously been painted. The paint is mostly worn off. But there are many traces of the old white paint left. Cleaned one section and oiled it to show what refinished would look like, with more sanding it would be lighter in color.
