Antique Verdigris Copper Standing Horse Lightning Rod Weathervane
Antique verdigris copper standing horse weathervane on cast iron arrow. The horse has been shot up and has considerable seam separation(especially take note of the hindmost leg) But she's all there. Still firmly affixed to the arrow with no repairs. The arrow is pitted and a little crooked but solid. The horse measures 11" long by just over 9 1/8" tall. This weathervane was removed from our victorian home in Hastings. NE. the home was built in the late 1880's. It is made of Copper and has a lovely patina as you can see. The base has three holes for easy installation. It spins very easily. The vane is COMPLETE! The horse measures 13" The arrow 19" overall height is 20" I try to describe my auction as fairly as I can. ANTIQUE 25 INCH BRONZE NEW ENGLAND HORSE WEATHERVANE
This beautiful bit of history was acquired a number of years ago from an estate sale in Denver. Colorado, but was not used here. It came from a barn or house somewhere on the East Coast in close proximity to the ocean which accounts for the beautiful green patina which covers its surface. The non ferrous metal of which the vane is constructed is bronze and the salt water air blowing in against it over the years has created its wonderful look. The arrow measures 25 inches and the cutout horse figure is 8-1/4 inches long and 7-1/2 inches high. The horse and the arrow’s feathers are 1/8 inch thick. The point of the arrow is a bit thicker and somewhat dimensional. The shaft of the arrow. And the upright tubing to which the compass points are attached, is 5/8 inch copper tubing. The letters…N E S W… are just under 2 inches high. The vane is still ... moreattached to the original piece of wood which was probably a part of the roof structure. That piece of wood may look like a lumberyard 2x4 but is actually tapered and hand hewn. Which attests to its age. The smaller piece of wood nailed to the larger was added just to keep it from tipping over where it was placed on a shelf and will be removed. The two iron bolts are original. And will be included, though one may be removed for shipping. The vane will be shipped as two parts(plus the 2 bolts) in very secure packaging. ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE FOLK ART WOODEN SWAN WEATHERVANE ORIGINAL PAINT AAFA
Freshly found. This wonderful swan or hissing goose folk art weathervane has a fabulous, strong presentation in its folky form. Measuring approximately 39” in total length by 11” wide at the widest and about one inch thick, I believe it hails from the first quarter of the 20 th century. The old repairs along the wing and the base appear to have been put in to stabilize cracks that had begun. But not travelled. The neck either had been a separate piece, or had sheared off at some point as it too, has the old pinned repairs. It does fit well when pushed in place but still wobbles, and will need reinforcement along the old pin shadows that have fallen out to make him fully secure again. I’ve left him as shown to show where the old pins had attached. Very, very cool form. Except for the neck needing to be stabilized better, remarkably there is ... moreno damage to the bill nor to the wing tips. Buyer pays exact shipping and insurance. Large, antique "COPPER WEATHERVANE" w/directional arms & base
This old copper weathervane. With directional arms and solid wooden base, was purchased about 30 years ago at an estate sale. The weathervane itself measures 34 1/2 inches long and 22 1/4 inches tall. It is in very good condition. With great patina and no repairs. The directional arms are 25 1/2 inches across and do not appear original to the weathervane. But work great for display along with the heavy wooden block. The"W" directional arm, which must have been damaged at some point was duplicated as close as possible and replaced before I got it(see last picture) The weathervane will be shipped in a separate box from the directional arms and base. Antique Painted Wooden Ship Weathervane on Stand * Nice Decorative Size
Antique painted wooden ship weathervane on stand. The ship is painted white. Black and red. There is an eagle carving on the front and rear of the vessel. It is mounted on a steel rod that slides on the wooden shaft of the stand. The masts and wires that would support sails all seem to be present, however, it is in need of some restoration to the masts. It has nice details and is a wonderful piece of folk art. It measures 32" long, 16" tall(ship alone) 29" tall on stand. Minor perfections.

Antique Vintage Old VERY LARGE Copper & Brass Horse Weathervane-GORGEOUS
This is a beautiful old weathervane. The horse. Directional arrows, and decorative balls appear to be copper. The 3 demensional items are hollow. The horizontal bar under the horse appears to be some other material possibly brass. The verticle rod(black) seems to be steel or iron. I do not know the age, I aquired it at auction in the 80's and thought to add it to a cupola on the barn. This many years later it's still in the garage. This is a very large item and will come disassembled. I'm not sure that I have it assembled correctly but it seems to work. Overall assembled demensions are appx. 45" tall and 31" wide. The Horse is almost 28" wide nose to tail and appx. 13 1/2" tall. There are two decorative balls. One 2" and one 4" The directional Markers are appx. 18 1/2" wide and 3 1/4" tall. ... moreEach letter is appx 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" The condition is as shown in the pictures. There does not appear to be any missing parts except for one set screw in the directional markers but they are interlocking so the one thats there will probably suffice. This"Dog" Weathervane as illustrated and described in the Book. Yankee Weathervanes, written by Myrna Kaye is made from the original A.J.Harris& Sons Cast Iron Molds. Also described and pictured in Yankee Weathervanes. The Dog, was originally produced by A.J.Harris& Co. later Harris& Co. Boston, Mass. From about 1870 to 1881, and originally sold for $25.00. It was then produced by W.A Snow Co. Boston, Mass. from 1883 to 1940. A white metal version owned by the Smithsonian was probably made by Snow in the 20th century. Antique 19th Century AMERICAN FOLK ART Painted Metal WEATHERVANE Eagle Sculpture
Up for auction is an antique 19th century folk art painted metal weathervane in good condition for the age. There is some dings. Dents, a light crack, at least two coats of paint, a hole in the right wing, and normal age and wear to the piece. The hole in the wing does not go all the way through the other side. There must have been a sphere that the feet rested on sometime in the past but I'm not sure. The metal is hollow, formed and soldered. I believe the metal to be either copper or tin. There has been a wooden base added for display however the top piece of wood on the base looks to have come from the rooftop this piece was removed from. The weathervane on the wooden base measures 17 3/4" tall, The weathervane alone is 12 1/2" tall. 24" long, and wing spread is 18" The wooden base measures 14" x 7 3/4" ... morex 5 1/2" This weathervane is very old and displays very well. It has separation on the body but it is 1800s and shows wonderful patina from years of use. I believe it had ears but they are gone. I bought this recently at a mud sale in LANCASTER. PA. Antique Lightning Rod with Cranberry glass ball and directional arrow Weathervane. Cranberry glass is hard to find. Cast iron arrow has a rope twist stem and originally held and animal. It is bent. Has a crack near the arrow and b rackets that held the animal are broken. Cranberry Glass globe has a swirl design. The glass is chipped at one of the openings. Copper Rod with copper tip. Rod is 71" tall. Missing one leg and one leg is missing the mounting bracket. Due to the issues mentioned. This piece was bought from a private collection in Mass. I believe this rooster dates to the mid 19 th century. This piece has a wonderful form and great oxidation to the copper. The top of the piece down to the breast has a wonderful smooth surface from the rain and snow. The feathers are cut out and wrap around to the back of the bird they look 3D. This wonderful piece of folk art was recently purchased by us out of an estate near Philadephia Pennsylvania. We concur with the former owners in the thought the vane was likely to have resided on a building which housed a chimney sweeping service in the Philadelphia area during the turn of the 19th century. This allowed the piece the service of acting as a trade sign as well as a weathervane. As you can see the profile of the piece is a striking sillohette of a chimney sweep. The personage bearing a period top hat, and sporting ... morea tailcoat. In the sweepers hands he holds the tools of his trade, a flue brush and a ladder. Another specific element of great folk art is the blacksmith who created this piece included the profile of a cat on the edge. Complete with pointed ears, and a charming curled tail. The construction of the piece showcases great original ironwork. The blacksmith formed out the design of the weathervane in flat iron. And reinforced the back with wrought strap iron support brackets including three areas where a rod could pass through(see images) Over the course of time. The piece was painted with several layers of paint, mostly in shades of green. If you click the individual images you'll see you can produce enlargements which allow for a better presentation of the surface and original construction. You'll see that overtime and exposure to the elements the paint has flaked on the piece creating a wonderul'alligatored' finish. The metal beneath the paint. It was hand made out of heavy guage hammered copper& retains an incredible& original blue/green verdigris patina. My guess on the age is early 1900's, but I'm not a weathervane expert& I've never had this looked at, so it could be earlier. Measures approx. 21.25" long x 6" tall. Not counting the solid copper rod, which is 3/8" thick& measures 11 3/8" long from the rusty metal washer. This ... morepiece has a charming design that includes a farmer in his hay filled wagon pulled by 3 draft horses that are being harassed by a dog with the farmers son walking behind carrying his hay sickle. The silhouette design was crafted out of heavy guage hammered copper sheet with a hand drill& jewelers saw. You can see the handwork upon close inspection. See photos. The design is very detailed& proportioned. It was expertly& securely attached to the flattened& tapered rod end by two copper rivets that were hand hammered. The only thing that is not copper is the rusty& pitted metal washer. Wonderful condition with some minor nicks& scratches. Some copper showing through in small areas, some slightly bent tips. No breaks& never cleaned. There are areas of dark oxidation mostly to the back side of design as seen in photos. The boys ankles show dark copper, I'm guessing where he was slightly bent& realigned. No stress cracks that I can find. The whole length of the pivot rod has a smooth worn finish with wear scratches from spinning& the end has been worn down smooth& rounded. The form is that of a pair of work horses pulling a plow and guided by a man/farmer. The reins are made of early twined wires. The plow. Horses, and farmer are riveted on an arrow. The vane is in a fabulous old black paint, with traces of a silver paint over it in some areas. There is no rod, so this would be displayed as a wall mount, unless you want to attach a rod to it in order to use it on a building. There are eight bullet holes in the horses, and one in the farmer, so this was obviously used for target practice when it was on the barn. The condition is very good, with just minimal paint loss. It looks to be made entirely of brass but has oxidation over it. However, the fletching(where the feathers would be) is made of aluminium to catch the wind. I have seen another one of these on ebay before so I know the aluminum part is correct to the vane. There are four old bullet holes in the fletchings part of the arrow. This weathervane has a nice weathered age patina with black hammered arrow, directionals and post. The overall size is 37" TALL, 29" AT ITS WIDEST POINT. Folk Art Weathervane Lamp Antique Weather Vane
This is a great old primitave. Hand-forged weathervane, that was made into a lamp.The flag spins, and the peice has a great look to it. the bottom starts off with a cone shape, and about mid way up there is a nice round ball with some scroll work on the sides. above that is the flag. On the top sits 5 candle shaped light bulbs sockets. I am not sure on the wireing as the plug-end is just two wires. It is old, how old is hard to say. The weathervane maybe like 150 years old, and the peice was made into a lamp, in the 50's or so. It is a great peice of americana, and is sure to be a GREAT addition to any room in your house. Large Antique Copper Horse Weathervane Running Race Cast Metal Zinc Weather Vane
This is a really nice antique copper running horse weathervane with a solid cast metal( lead/zinc)head. Fine Patina is evidence of years in the weather. No idea of age. This beautiful piece was taken from a barn roof in PA. Found at a local estate. The man having the sale said as a boy his family bought a farm and this horse weather vane was on the barn. He said they lived there for 20 years and when they moved his father took it with them. The horse does not appear to have been cleaned or polished and shows the work of nature. I did wipe it down. The horse's head is made of zinc/lead I'm told and the body is hand formed from heavy copper and hot lead soldered together into this fine looking horse. The piece is 17" from top of the ear to the top of the pipe, The pipe is 33" long and weighs over 8 pounds. Nice detail in proper ... morehorse anatomy with muscles and veins showing. Head, eyes and mouth are so realistic. This piece is as good as I have seen and in marvelous condition with no cracks, dents or other distractions. A great piece for the barn or house roof or used inside mounted as a classic primitive. Make sure you use the zoom feature to see the great detail.
