This F o lk Art ... moreweather vane dates to the 19th century. Copper forms are soldered together and the figures are hollow. This is a very large piece. The measurements are 31"W x 16.5"H. One wheel is missing a spoke and two spokes are loose on one end. I can see no other areas that need repair. This has been in a private collection for over 20 years. I do not know the original area that it came from. We had it appraised 10 years ago And the value was $10.000. I also have a magazine clipping where it shows this weather vane brought $10,450 at a Munda and Associates sale in Freeport Illinois December 15 of 2002. See photograph. Location: Fitchburg, United States WEATHER VANE: Antique"Armadillo" Gilded Copper. Beautiful Patina This is a really charming Weather Vane topper featuring an Armadillo. Hr is ... morefull bodied. Gilded copper. I believe the supporting rod is brass. The Armadillo is the official state animal of Texas. But I don't know if this little guy came from there. On his simple wood base. He stands 7 1/4 inches tall and is 10 1/2 inches long from his snout to the end of his curving tail. He was gilded all over, but some of the gilding is worn away revealing small areas of verdigris and old copper. On the whole. This Armadillo is in pretty good shape with no dings or other damage. He also seems to have escaped being involved in target practice. The photos give a very good idea of the shape and condition of this unusual and charming Armadillo Weather Vane topper.
