Rare Antique Large Hollow Body Old Goose Duck Bird Weathervane - Great Patina!
ANTIQUE WEATHER VANE PERFECT FOR THE TOP OF A HOME OR GARAGE OR BARN– PLACE IN A GARDEN IN THE SOIL OR ON A POLE– USE AS A DÉCOR ITEM IN AN EARLY AMERICANA STYLE Acquired at an estate sale is this antique weather vane. Features a goose on top of an unknown metal with hollow body. The goose measures about 27 ½ inches from the tip of one wing to the other wing and 24 inches from the bill to the tail. Great details to the goose with its legs and feet on one side up near its body as in flight. The goose has a hole in the bottom that the rod slides over and allows it to turn to indicate the wind direction. The overall measurement of this piece is 46 ½ inches tall! The measurement of the directions is 18 inches. The bottom shaft measures 19 ½ inches. The bottom larger ball measures about 4 inches across. The spacer in the middle ... morefor the directions is 3 inches. The top ball is 2 inches across. The metal rod between the top ball and the bottom of the goose is 4 inches. Based on the patina and rust of the rod I think it is cast iron or steel. The decorative balls appear to be copper. I am not sure what metal the directions are. The top features a sperm whale measuring 25" by 7" The N/S/E/W spokes measure 18" across. And the pole stands 18 1/2" high. Altogether, the whale measures approx. 26" tall. I have tested the weathervane with WD-40, but it does not turn. The copper has a light green patina and verdigris which adds to the antique character and overall appeal of this piece. The weathervane is in good condition for its age. But the tail section is a little rusty on top from being out in the elements. It has natural green patina on the copper. OLD ANTIQUE HOLLOW COPPER GOOSE WEATHERVANE GREAT SURFACE GOOD HONEST PATINA NR!
Fresh from an Estate comes this old vintage weathervane of a goose in flight. The vase has been setting in a barn or on top of a home for some time because the one side is oxidized with exposure to elements and the other is not. Has more of an old tarnished color look. This leads me to believe this is an original and not one made to look old. The lead seams also have the right look and age, there is no enhanced aging chemicals on this vane. Also the rod has a crack from dirt that has frozen and caused the crack. At some point someone has this stuck in the ground in their yard for decoration. Although I'm not sure how old it is. I'm guessing early part of the 20th century. The paint on the rooster itself is real chalky and appears to be chalk paint. It will come off on your hands. The rooster is a heavy cast aluminum and is thick-bodied. Not slender like most. The rest of it is a cast iron base and a metal tube. It has a long bolt through it. The rooster looks like it used to thread on there but it is now loose and will come off. This would be a great decorative piece as it just has that"look" to it. It measures about 18 1/2 inches tall overall and the rooster is about 8 1/2" long. Nice patina on this old weathervane. It is a full bodied form of a copper rooster. This piece has a nice folky quality to the form. It appears to be a handmade piece and it is joined with some kind of rivet or tack. It is mounted to a twisted piece of steel or iron that is then attached to a solid block of wood. This amazing piece features terrific detail and a wonderful butcher shop theme. May have been used as a trade sign for a shop. This weathervane is made from thin sheet metal with thicker metal for braces which are hand riveted to the body. I have up for sale a very nice vintage original circa late 1800s to early 1900s American Folk Art Sheet Metal Cut Out Silhouette HORSE WEATHERVANE. It is Fresh off the Farm. Picked out of an old granary. It measures approx 31" long, approx 26" tall and is made of two cut out and riveted together pieces of sheet metal. The vane is fully guaranteed as being authentic. Dating from somewhere approx. 1900 give or take. It was purchased off of an old family farm here in Wisconsin, I've been trying to by it for over 20 years. Really Nicely Done. Unknown maker probably done by a local tinsmith back in the day. I think that its a fantastic looking item. Perfect for a wall décor or to have a stand made with a rod for proper display. Rare & Exc. Antique 19th C. NE Molded Copper Full-Bodied Rooster Weathervane
An exceptional& rare 19th C. New England full-bodied copper rooster weathervane. C. 1850-70. This early weathervane has an excellent form& great oxidation to the copper. It was recently purchased from a collection in New Jersey& originally found in Maine over 20 years ago. Early weathervanes are prized for their original condition, the surface on this piece is incredible, completely untouched with wonderful verdigris. The sculptural quality of this piece elevates it far beyond its original utilitarian purpose. The rooster was a favorite motif for old-time makers of weathervanes, roosters were especially popular during the eighteenth& first part of the nineteenth century. An extraordinary amount of detail is included in the overall design of this handsome piece, the detail in the relief molded wing& tail feathers is amazing& ... morequite unusual, not often seen in early weathervanes. This piece is so individual stylistically, that it is possible to attribute other vanes to this manufacturer as well. It is in excellent condition, with a seam separation under the beak& a small one on the top of the head, there are no other damage or repairs. This early weathervane is quite large, measuring 28" wide, 21" tall& 5 1/2" wide, it stands 27 1/2" tall with the stand. This is an early 20th century zinc weathervane I purchased about a decade ago from a collector in Birmingham. Michigan. It is a beautifully cast pheasant, full-bodied and made of solid zinc, with nice detailing, and a lovely surface patina. It has been professionally mounted onto a very heavy, custom-made, wrought iron weathervane stand. We found it in an old general store outside of the old Camp San Louis Obispo training camp( which dates to the First World War; the training area was actually sold to the US Govt during WW1 by W.R Hearst of the Sf Chronicle newspaper) The old general store was being re-utilized as storage. And they were planning on tearing it down next month. We were able to retrieve this old weathervane with their permission. It is being sold as pictured. As it is shown. Neat old vintage weather vane. Antique Running Horse Weathervane Late 19th Early 20th C Gilt & Verdigris
Antique Running horse weatherfane made of copper late 19th early 20th century. The rod having ice caps and angled with a support to the rear leg 31 3/4 inches nose to tail. Head is copper. The top of the vane and the rod show lots of old verdigris surface while the remainder is gilt some wear down to copper right side back leg. The tops of hoofs and edges where it is soldered together have verdigris.There is an old patched bullet hole(see Arrow) I did get one buckshot ball out of the vane. I purchased this fantastic piece of Americana from a farm estate sale in Puxico. Missouri. The cow weathervane is made of single thickness galvanized steel. The cow had been painted the traditional BARN RED sometime back in history. The cow does have a bullet hole as can be seen in the photos and does have a couple of dents where it appears some bullets did not penetrate the steel. The cow appears to be homemade and most likely made in the farmer's shop. The LARGE folk art primitive cow weathervane measures 35 inches long from tip of the cow's tail to the tip of the arrow.and the center pole measures 17.5 inches tall. This fabulous piece stands a whopping 9 feet tall on it's mounting bracket and the horse is 41"long. The horse, the ball, and the spearhead at the top of the Weather Vane still maintain about 90% of the original gold guild paint. Because of the size and weight of the horse, the head is made out of cast iron to balance it while on the roof. This is an antique weathervane straight from New England. This handcrafted piece depicts the infamous horse pulling a doctor in a buggy. This 19th century folk art. It is well weathered and shows a nice patina. The horse and buggy measures 26" long and 13" tall. The base that the horse and buggy is attached to appears to have been replaced and repaired at some point. This is expected with the age of the piece. Antique folk art cow weathervane 1900's James A10B ruby globe copper & zinc
This weathervane has all the character and patina a collector could want. Fortunately it has some old west style bullet holes that gives it an even more unique appearance. The ruby red globe is without cracks or repairs. It is stamped A10B. I have no idea what that means. This piece will be packed with extreme care and sent to the new owner without any shipping or handling charges if it goes to someone in the contiguous United States. I probably shouldn’t have bought this small antique American Eagle from a 19 th century Weathervane. There are several problems after ... moreyears of being shot at. Since the day the farmer removed this vane it has been displayed on a 5 ½” diameter by 6 ½” tall carved walnut base. The eagle has a 17” wingspan. Which would have been longer, but one wing is in poor condition. It is bent and there are separations on the seams and a couple of bullet holes, one which caused a small piece on the front of the wing to fly off. The other wing has a couple of bullet holes also, but is in better condition with only some slight bends to the copper. There is another bullet hole in the body and both feet are missing. The original owner must have removed this weathervane, before it was complete shot up. If you see the primitive charm in this small American Folk Art Eagle Weathervane like it do, then you’ll be glad to know it is listed without any reserve. Solid cast aluminum weathervane is in very good condition with a few dings and scrapes.Completely intact with no missing pieces. Black matte finish in very good condition. Hammered effect on wind directional arrow.Main vertical shaft and on base. Vane is 28 inches high.Directional arrow is 24 inches long.2 aluminum lightning arrester globes. One is 2 inches across and the other is 3 inches across. Horse and buggy are 14 inches long and 6 inches high.Dirrectional letters N.S.E.W. are 3 1/2 inches high and 2 inches wide. Adjustable base plate is 10 inches long and 2 inches wide. It weighs 1500 grams.

Estate purchase.This vintage antique original Weathervane cast iron Directional Arrow with red glass and a north star etched into the red glass.Condition cast iron is weathered from being on a barn,no breaks,the red glass is in good condition,one end is missing a small piece of glass on the edge,displays very well.Size approx 18 1/2" long,in the widest part it is approx 4" Nice item for display.See my pictures for the rest.

Sally's Cellar is thrilled to have found one of our favorite type of pieces. an Antique Old Cast Iron Weathervane for Lightning Rod's. The best part is this piece is marked'Kretzer' What a fabulous thing it is to find a piece marked by the maker or company. A bit of research has informed me that Kretzer weathervanes are from the early 1900's. St. Louis seems to be the home of the manufacturer. A few years ago. My brothers and I had the ominous job of cleaning out the farm house and barns our family built in the 1890's. We were thrilled to send one of our much younger limber cousin's up on the roof of the very old house to bring down the lightning rods. What treasures they are. when I found this piece. all of those memories came flooding back. This Kretzer weathervane arrow measures in at: 18 x 4 x 1.5 It weighs ... more11 ounces. There is an arrow on one end with two open circles in the center(this part goes over the lightning rod) and a square holder that is empty on this weathervane. It can hold colorful glass. I have one that has flat red glass with a finial design in the glass. Gorgeous. This Kretzer weathervane arrow still has several neat things you can do with it. Get a lightning rod and post this gorgeous arrow on it! Hang it on your wall inside or outside. A great piece of history and a beautiful piece of today!
