Mosaic Tile Company Tile Here is a antique rare Mosaic Tile Company"cuerta cerca" red ware tile. Circa 1920. This tile shows a standing white rabbit on a matte green and blue thick glaze. It measures 4 1/4" square and 1/2" thick. The tile is in excellent condition with a small chip in the upper left and right hand corner(see photos) The tile is signed on the rear with the mark of"MOSAIC" in an oval which is somewhat difficult to read but definitely there. Measuring just 5" tall x 3 1/4" from ear to ear x 3 1/2" from nose tip to the back of the head! Condition of this item is"very good" to"excellent" with one blemish. A small chip to the crown on the left side(see photo 3) just above the left ear. This auction is for an antique/ vintage French tile- from a butcher shop. Ca 1920. The tile is nicely decorated with a sheep and a ram and a meat cleaver/ chopper on the four corners. Unmarked. Dimensions: 6" x 3" In excellent vintage condition. Beautiful colors. Hardly any wear visible on the surface. There is a small chip on the back(lower left corner) that is not visible from the front. Antique Sewer Tile Desk Set with Reclining Stag Buck ~ Artist Signed
Rare and b eautifully detailed antique sewer tile figural stag desk set. Molded in coarse red clay with incised details. This is an Ohio piece dating to the early 20th century, and it comes from the renowned collection of Jack Adamson(Ohio) Author of The Illustrated Handbook of Ohio Sewer Pipe Folk Art. 1973. What an am azing piece! I've seen plenty of sewer tile lions. But never a st ag. The top of the desk set is incised"R.R. Romig" under the glaze. And the bottom is incised"H Roth. Also on the bottom is"B374. The stag is well-proportioned and has lots of great features, including incised fur, a set of antlers, eyes, ears, and hoofs at the ends of his legs. He is resting next to a wonderfully molded tree stump with a highly textured bark. This is a heavy, hand-molded piece made of solid clay, and weighs 4 lbs 11 ... moreozs. That's as heavy as a typical antique cast iron doorstop. It measures 9 1/4" by 6 1/2" by 4 1/2" tall. It is in excellent condition, with no chips, hairlines, cracks, or repairs. Up for auction is a very unique antique tile top table with a wrought iron base dating from the 1920's or possible earlier. The table is unsigned but looks like a custom Catalina tile table. The tile top features three chili peppers. Great color and design. It is one solid large round tile that makes up the top of the table. Overall condition is very nice for its age. The tile has no cracks or chips. Some normal crazing on the colorful design as seen in the photos. Wrought iron base is solid and has no cracks. No repairs and no broken parts. Maw & Co. Broseley Salop Antique Tile
This beautiful tile is made by Maw& Co. Tile measures 6" x 6" and is a bit over 5/16" thick. No cracks. A chip at one of the corners and a very small chip at another corner(see photos) slight discoloration under the flowers near the chipped corner, and some crazing. There is some pitting in the glaze which appears to be original. I have tried to take photos to show all the edges and any flaws. Overall it's a great looking tile!

Antique Tea Tile Trivet with Woman in Orange & Green Unmarked
From my mother's collection. A 6" tea tile with a woman, unmarked. Her clothes look like flowers and the green on them is part of the flower and stems. Very unusual. It is not cracked but it has spider cracking on the back that you cannot feel. There is a raised pattern around the inside edges. She used these as coasters and under floral arrangements. California Batchelder Arts and Craft Tile of a Lion, framed, antique
California Batchelder Arts and Crafts Tile of a lion. Covered in a blue matte glaze, mounted in a oak frame. Size- 8.5" Ernest Allan Batchelder was a leading designer of the American arts and crafts movement. Already well known when he founded his own tile company in Pasadena in 1909. After studying at the School of Arts and Crafts in Birmingham, England, he taught at the Harvard Summer School of Design, organized the Handicraft Guild in Minneapolis, where he taught summer courses, and directed the department of arts and crafts at Throop Poly- technic Institute in Pasadena. He published Principles of Design in 1904 and his numerous articles for The Craftsman were compiled as the book Design in Theory and Practice in 1910. Ever a proponent of putting theory into practice, Batchelder built a kiln behind his bungalow when he left Throop(pronounced"Troop" ... morein 1909. There, with the help of former students, he began making decorative tiles of his own design. This enterprise was timely; Southern California's booming construction industry called for architectural tiles, and his products were much in demand. He moved twice due to expansion, with his largest business site occupying six acres in Los Angeles. Batchelder's products earned a gold medal at the 1915 San Diego Exposition. Like many arts and crafts enterprises the firm was put out of business by the Depression; all of its assets were sold in 1932. Batchelder reverted to a home operation, later moved to a small shop in Pasadena, and continued to make pottery until the early 1950s.
