20"H Antique Cast Brass Iron Fireplace Mantel Mantle Andirons Hearth Log Holders
Penn Antique Restoration. 20" H Pair Antique Brass Fireplace Andirons. These beautiful antique andirons were made around the first half of the previous century and were salvaged from Northeastern PA. They have cast iron shanks. And heavy, cast brass guards. Unlike many lesser quality andirons available on eBay; the guards on these andirons are not plates or halves-the design you see on the front is the design you see on the back. Each guard has curved legs and a bulbous. Tapered body with 2 cups and a solid finial on top. The shanks, which hold the logs, curve to the sides of the guards at which point they continue straight, away from the guards. There is a brass plate covering the curved portion of each shank. Notice the delicate brass finials adorning the shanks at the point where their curves end—what lovely accents! The beauty of ... morethe design is enhanced by a wonderful. Rich patina. One of the guards has a significant degree of verdigris(green patina) We rubbed them with oil to accentuate the beauty of the patina, and we scrubbed the shanks with steel wool and WD40 to remove most of the rust. It features birdeyes maple veneer over wood. Dentil trim, the original beveled mirror, columns and a scroll motif on the shelf supports. Beveled wood around the fireplace opening. Good condition for its age. It had been painted and stripped. Looks like water discoloration at the base of columns. See foto, plus other scuffs and remants of paint. The top shelf has pulled away a bit from the back, will try to get a detail foto. There is a crack or two in places, again, I'll get a foto up as soon as I can. The tiles have not been cleaned and some still have the mortar on the bottom of them. They do have a crazing to them. The darker color tiles are a beautiful green color, some of the pictures look as if they are brown but they are green. I believe they went around the two roman larger tiles. There are several tiles that were more fragile and broke while dissembling the mantel. They all will look great once they are cleaned, I do not have the knowledge for this and do not want to damage them in any way so I will leave the cleaning up to the buyer. This is a very RARE and awesome antique find along with the original tiles. The four larger figural tiles are extremely RARE also. This mantel. There is one piece which I believe to be a lesser seen part of the fireplace that has been broken in two but both pieces are here and they fit together quite well. Marvelous antique walnut mantel. Found in a home in New Orleans and dating from the 1880's. The fireplace mantel is crowned with a projecting shelf accented with carved foliate and bead-and-reel detailing; three inset panels sit below the shelf. Grooved brackets flank the firebox and curve downwards to meet stylized Corinthian columns. The base of each mantel leg features chamfered edges, scalloped carving and grooved bands. Beautiful red velvet Victorian fireplace mantel scarf/cover. Has tassel fringe and adjustable tassel pulls in the front that gather up to create a hanging bow in the center. This appears to be hand dyed and knotted fringe. There is breaking in some of the fringe and faded dye(see photo for example) The velevet has a fluere-de-lis design and a design on the bottom edge. It does not show through strongly and in alot of places you cannot see it(see photos) There are also very small fibers that are coming off. This is due to age. You can see by the pic the design that should show on the back of the piece. There is also darker spots of the velevet and in the center where used most from items being placed on top. The mantel is old(early 1900s) and came from a home in the St. Louis area. It is constructed of quarter sawn oak with an extremely nice grain pattern. It features a long and deep, contoured/curved shelf with full, round columns(not halved and attached to the surround) for support. The columns are fairly substantial in diameter and are also quarter sawn. They retain their original bases which are identical to their capitals. The surround extends above the shelf and is fixed so that the center point of the grain pattern aligns with the center of the shelf. The grain on the top of the surround changes directions at the mid point so that the grain pattern on the surround faces inward toward the center. The piece ... moreis untouched so that it retains the original flat nails/screws as well as the old, large dowels which attach the shelf to the surround. The top of the shelf is not as ornately patterned as the balance of the piece and has some stain runs/drips on it. It probably, originally housed a piece of marble. The shelf is deepest at its center section and is rounded on the sides above the columns. It is a thick piece and measures 4" in thickness. The opening, which once surrounded a mirror, is beveled and not simply flat. This is an incredible mantel shelf. It is in very good condition with very little evidence of age or use. There are very few nicks or scratches and the finish is very good. It measures 60" long. 31.75" tall and it extends 12" from the wall at its deepest point. The columns are 21" tall. They are 5.5" in diameter at their bases and capitals and are 4" in diameter otherwise. The shelf section is 57.5" long. It is 8.75" deep at the ends and contours to a depth of 11" at the center. About Us My salvage business was born of necessity in 1993 when I started restoring an old Victorian home that had seen better days. I needed doors. Staircase parts, fireplace mantles and more, so I contacted the owners of a few local buildings that were scheduled for demolition. I found and purchased all of the things that I needed for my project and lots of extra treasures which I eventually resold. 17 years later this is still my full time job! Elegant Antique Fireplace Mantel with Geometric Detail, c. 1900 NFPM81
A wonderful antique fireplace mantel with geometric details. Salvaged out of a house in Nashville and dating from the early 1900's. The projecting shelf features beveled edges and perches above a raised design of diamond detailing that runs across the face of the mantel. A baluster-style leg curves elegantly outward and tapers back down to a square base on either side of the firebox opening, supporting the mantel shelf. The mantel is in very good antique condition and is painted white with red accents.
