Purchased at the"Wonderful Washington University Antique Show" many years ago. I was told it came from an estate in New Orleans. Beautifully hand carved- 4 Lions Head. Two on each side of the side pedestals. In the center is a bountiful fruit basket and on both sides are fish or serpentines. I have never seen anything like it, simply impressive and handsome. I believe at one time it had been painted and stripped before I purchased it. Needs some attention as some of the joints are loose. Height 40 in. Width 63 in. Depth 11 in. A really nice ornate antique wood fireplace mantel with original beveled mirrors. 2 on each side and 1 in the middle. I was told it is hardwood. I do not know. But believe so. I originally thought it was walnut, but the dark color could be a stain. Shelf is 5' wide and opening is 43" Even if you don't have a fireplace, neat to just add to a wall. Bought this 20 years ago from a Bridgeport. Ct Estate. We are moving and sadly this can not come with us. We have it in our bedroom and I put a fake fireplace in it with those cans you light to give it a real fireplace effect. We hang ou christmas stocking and have had many a display on the large mantel. The piece is 7ft high, approx 6'7" wide at its widest point which is the mantel- the opening is 3'5" high and 3'6" long. We have it sitting on a nice piece of bluestone which is 6'6" If you want the faux fireplace we will throw it in for free. If you want the stone base, please add on an additional $45. Offered for auction is this very nice solid walnut Victorian fireplace surround and mantle. Has been professionally refinished and is a nice rich. Dark walnut. Just under the mantle top are round carved recesses, recessed square plaques with circular and cross hatch design, and also parallel carved lines in the legs. 62 1/8" wide at the top, 13" deep, 49 1/2" t, opening is 36" w and 31 5/8" tall. Up for auction is an amazing and beautiful fireplace mantel that I salvaged from a 100 year old home located in a Northshore suburb of Chicago that was razed around 10 year ago. We salvaged a number of items. With this being one of the pieces. We completed the restoration of our home built in 1927 and this was initially planned for the Master Bedroom. We opted for a stone mantel salvaged from a Cleveland A&C, as our ceiling height was an issue. I am listing at the lowest price I am willing to sell, so I am hoping to find a buyer who shares the same passion for reuse and restoration of craftsmen build pieces. I sold the faience tiles that were part of this mantel a few years ago, however companies like Motawi Tileworks sell wonderful replacements that would fit perfectly. But it is very close if not perfect) I've included a photo of most dimensions that will help you decide if this will fit. There are two side panels, as the mantel stuck 11" out from the wall, which can be used or not(flush with the wall) The mantel is dismantled and I have all of the trim pieces, so it is ready to be installed.I highly recommend a professional carpenter. There is a center door with fixed panels to either side. All 3 have fretwork over glass. There are 3 simple corbels below the cabinet.
