The front boasts a grand 19th Century appearance which alone is impressive enough. However when you turn to see the back of the doors you find and incredible pair of life size paintings of what is believed to be a King and Queen. The detail is just remarkable. And apparently painted in real gold although this has not been tested. Large antique doors without the interesting background and without the stunning artwork alone are rather sort after. POST OFFICE MAIL BOX DOORS RARE ZINC COLLECTOR SERIES Three zinc mail box doors; all are#1 doors(small ones) They are of era WWII; the 1940's. These rare mail box doors are wonderful for mail box coin banks or jewelry boxes! Zinc was used for making mail box doors only during World War II when all copper containing alloys. Bronze/brass, were restricted due to their need for making shell cartridges. Remember zinc pennies! Traditionally, mail box doors had been made from bronze/brass material. The doors are listed on page 189 of the Illustrated Guide of Post Office Lockbox Doors by Jane H. Ingram. 2nd Edition. They were manufactured by Keyless Lock. We believe that very few post offices were being built or expanded during the war. Because everybody was heavily involved with the war effort. But apparently, these doors were urgently needed ... moreby an American oil company preparing a community for Americans in the Middle East. New mail box doors were only available in zinc. We purchased these old doors from an oil company when one of their abandoned mail facilities was demolished in 1999. The original doors probably had windows made of real glass. But on these doors the glass windows were removed at some point and replaced with Plexiglas. Note that the clips on the one of the doors has been replaced by your seller with a hand made clip. There is some paint left by a careless painter. The lock combinations are provided for you. The pictures tell the whole story of what is involved with these doors. The doors are 5” high X 3 5/8” wide. And the locking mechanism works well on all. Those that have bought them in the past have been very happy with them. Large Vintage Antique Remington Rand 4 Hour Fire Safe Retracting Double Doors
Hi. Very vintage,large 4 hour fire safe by Remington Rand. Yes I have the combination and the locks work great. Pic 2 is the top front and is the basic nametag. Locks are made by Yale, all brass. Pics 5 and 7 show the access plates, I don't think they have ever been opened. Pic 4 shows the 4 hour rating with model and serial numbers. I can't find a year of manufacture though. Pic 6 shows the left door and panel. The small latch holds the panel shut. When you push this down, while the door is open, it swings the entire door out on the panel, as in pic 7, and then can be rolled into the side compartment and out of the way. Both doors do this. They have rollers to move and rest on. Takes the weight off the hinges and gets the doors out of the way so you can work. This is pic 8. In pic 9 it shows the bottom hinge on the right door needs ... moreto be welded. It still works great, but this should be done. Someone tried brazing it, created the rust spot on the outside, and it didn't take. I've had this for 19 years and have never had a problem using it in this condition. Pic 10 shows the three antique file drawers that all work and have no dings, dents or twists. The entire unit is removable as well. The two shelves are very adjustable in no more than an inch increments. Adjustable from the bottom to the top. They slide into grooves. Caster style wheels! Pic 11. All four wheels rotate a full 360 degrees so you can push this in any direction. Pic 12 is closed. Weight is a guess around a ton. Outside measurements are 62 1/2 inches long, 47 1/2 high and 32 1/2 deep. The interior measurements are 36 inches wide, 31 1/2 high and 19 1/2 deep. Length is so the doors can slide into the sides. There is a strip of burled wood down the center of the upper and lower pieces and the front of the lower doors have burled wood on them as well as a nicely designed inlaid tiger wood strip. This piece has great patina. The veneer has bubbled and chipped in a couple of spots but its hardly noticeable. The over all condition of this piece is excellent for its age. It is a very old antique and will not be perfect. I do not know the exact date it was made or who the maker is. The base measures 39 inches tall, 53 inches side to side and 23 inches front to back. It weighs 75 pounds. The top measures 34 ½ inches tall, 49 1/8 inches side to side and 17 1/8 inches front to back. It weighs 97 pounds. Size is 35" wide by 53" height by 15" depth. Two glass front doors with beautiful wood fretwork on fronts. The fretwork can be removed if you prefer a plain cabinet. But it would mean removing the glass and interior molding that holds it, in order to reach the fretwork. Left inside door has a latch at the top to secure it. There is a keyhole in the right door but I do not have a key. I have used this as a curio cabinet, with thee three shelves as shown, but it INCLUDES 13 SHELVES total. I believe this was probably a music/periodicals cabinet, but it can also be used as a bookcase or curio cabinet with less shelves. Shelves ... morehave unusual metal guides on sides(removable) to attach them, and shelves slide in. There are only 6 shelf guides included(enough for three shelves, shown) but I have misplaced the rest in a move(are somewhere in my home) If I come across them I will send them to you, but otherwise if they are not located, I am sure you can find some sort of shelf brackets if you want to use 13 shelves. The front of the cabinet has two Chippendale shaped legs(pretty! Made in England Circa 1940 Walnut Vertical tambour doors 36 total drawers Roller latches Small spot of damage to left door Minor wear Very sturdy, This very unique antique file or sheet music cabinet was made in England around 1940 and is a gorgeous walnut wood. The three vertically rolling tambour doors are the focal point of this cabinet. The originally had locks which held the doors up when closed. However those locks have been replaced with roller latches that are quite secure and require no key. Each tambour door houses a column of twelve open ... moreface drawers that slide in and out on wooden runners. Each drawer is about 15" wide. The top of this file cabinet is decorated with geometric and floral carvings which look beautiful. The paneled sides are clean and the brass hardware blends well with the walnut wood. There is one small spot of damage on the very left tambour door around the middle(see picture) and the entire piece has very minor cosmetic wear as you would expect from a piece of this age. Overall though, this cabinet is very sturdy and in very good condition. It is a unique piece that would make a wonderful addition to any home and can be used in a variety of ways.
