The patent information is clearly visible on the face of the bell and shows a patent date of Oct 23 1860.The bell itself was originally brass plated and shows ware with minor scratches which would be expected for an item of its age and it resonates with a great tone. ANTIQUE VICTORIAN EDWARDIAN BRASS SERVANTS BUTLERS DOOR BELL TENSION ADJUSTER
A salvaged original VICTORIAN or EDWARDIAN servants or butlers bell wire tension adjuster. By turning the knurled nut the ceramic pulley moves up or down it's screw thread thereby increasing/decreasing the tension on the bell control wire. It could also have been used in a front door pull bell system. The tensioner is made of brass with a ceramic pulley which has a couple of small chips on the circumference of the pulley. On the rear of the tensioner is stamped 37 and the manufacturer's star mark. A rare item as normally the ceramic pulley becomes broken. I am happy to answer any questions. Antique Victorian Cast Iron & Brass Double Ring Door Bell patent 1876 & 1889
This bell is sold as found. It's missing the handle. The nickel plated brass cover has a square hole and it's either a replacement or it's missing the original screw. You can work it with your finger and it has a double ring. It measures 3 3/4" x 4 3/4" at the mounting holes and it's 2 1/4" high. Note: there is a notch in the side of the frame for the rod that goes to the striker.

Offered here is an original and authentic ANTIQUE VICTORIAN-EASTLAKE ERA BRASS FRONT DOOR BELL AND HANDLE-BRACKET. PATENTED APRIL 28, 1874. This beautiful antique piece of hardware has been beautifully restored. It was recently purchased at a local estate sale and the previous owner restored and polished the brass bell and front door handle bracket. They are in fantastic condition. It looks to me that the bracket and handle was mounted on the front door. A hole was drilled in the door and the bracket rod went through the hole and connected to the bells mechanism on the opposite side of the door. To ring the bell you pulled down on the bracket handle and this moved a spring which controlled the clapper on the bell. It has a beautiful ring. Fabulous antique French gate/servants bell. Old style shop door bell
This is an antique French shop or gate bell. Measuring approx 13" tall it is in good used condition with a clear tinkling ring showing that the bell has no cracks. This is fitted by slotting a metal peg or long nail through the centre of the spring and knocking into a wall. There is a hole in the head of the piece for fitting a chain or cord if you want people to pull it or you can fit it just above a door so it knocks it each time you open or close the door.
