Each bell is a little different in size and some have more rings then others which gives each bell a little different sound when it is turned. I believe it date back to the turn of the century. This is similar to the other one which I have just sold on Ebay except that the fixing method is not a bracket with screws but a spike which is driven into wood or built into the stonework. I cleaned one small area of the bell(see photo) but otherwise is in original condition as removed from the property- it has surface rusting. Residual paint, and general build up but could no doubt be cleaned up considerably if you wanted. The bell which is 3" diameter(max. works fine with a nice ring and is marked B(or 8) 12. Antique Connell's Door Bell Set c.1880's
Item description Antique Connell's door bell set c.1880's. This company produced a large number of door bells in a variety different styles. The bell and trigger are decorated with a corresponding vernacular design typical of the time period. There is no appreciable wear on the thumb trigger and the remainder of the decoration is also in excellent condition. The bell mounts on the interior side of the door and the trigger mounts on the outside. The trigger bar extends through the door and into the backside of the bell. When the trigger is depressed it releases the spring loaded bell clapper and the bell rings with a very distinctive and load sound. Door bells of this type are often found with missing or broken parts. But this set is complete and fully functional. The face of the bell carries the Connell's name and patent date ... moreof March 18, 1873, but patent dates generally proceed the manufacturer date by many years. The base of the bell is cast iron and the bell is cast brass. The harder cast brass gives the bell a nice ring tone. The exterior bell trigger is cast bronze and has aged beautifully. The set will work on any door 1 1/2" 2" thick. This is a great set that is ready for installation. The bell is 3 5/8" wide at the base. The base mounting holes are 4 3/16" on center and the bell projects 2 1/8" from the face of the door. The trigger plate is 4 5/8" tall x 3 1/4" wide and the triggers extend 1 1/2" from the face of the door. If your going to spend real money on a vintage hardware should expect no broken or missing parts. Pieces that have not been abraded and diminished by sand blasting, wire brushing or excessive polishing and at a minimum the ability to make a return. Antique Victorian Pull Cord Door Bell
A great old item. I have seen many over the years but they are getting harder to find and esp in working condition. The is a door bell. Made to be mounted on the inside of a door. A hole is drilled through the door and a pull cord extends through the hole to the outside. The cord is pulled and the mechanism inside the bell cause it to ring. It sound great! The base is"iron" and the bell is solid brass. These bells typically had a"fancy" cord with a"pull" attached. They also usually has a grommet around the hole which the cord traveled to keep it from wearing out the cord. Such substitute grommets are pretty easy to find in a well stocked hardware store. This bell is in perfect working condition! The photo was taken with a flash and it makes the bell surface appear spotty and uneven but in natural light it does ... morenot look that way. Upon closer exmanation I think the bell is actually nickle plated and the"spots" are where the plating is slightly worn and the brass shows through.

This is an Antique 1872 Corbins New Britain Bronze Door Bell which came out of a Manhattan estate and it is in good looking condition. Cast into the bronze bell face is"Corbins Bell New Britain" and a cast imprint at the back of the base reads"Pat. June 4. 1872. This is the kind of doorbell that would be mounted on the inside of the door and a knob would be placed on the outside of the door which when turned by a visitor would turn the 1/4" square opening at the bell base on the inside and sound the bell. The bell cover screws off to show the internal mechanism and this early bell is offered as pictured. It measures 5" in diameter x 2.5" in depth and weighs 4 pounds.

Offering an antique Victorian crank door bell. Taylors Pat Oct. 23 1860. Cast iron base. Brass bell, cast iron crank with porcelain knob.Complete and working, but needs repair, see condition. MEASUREMENTS: 3 3/4" across the back. 4 7/8" across the mounts, should fit doors 1 1/4" to 1 3/4" CONDITION: Used condition. Original. The cast iron is not damaged. The handle has old paint, surface rust and a tiny nick in the knob. The bell works, but the insert that holds the handle is worn. It is brass and cast iron. The brass back fits in the tapered hole and should get wider at the back and hold it in place. It is worn from turning, needs pressed at the edge or built up. Check my other listings for more. This is a beautiful bell. Undated. 1800s. Original. Primitive antique. The bell part measures approx 3.75" high x 4" across. A textured or hammered handle has a circular part where it could slide on a horizontal pole(1.75" and swing back and forth. The barn red paint is old. But is probably not as old as this bell. Here's a Kool old Brass door buzzer.Speaker box,mail box,w/name plate insert. This is probably from an apartment building and vintage 1930/40s or so. Front cover is solid brass, and made to be recessed in the wall. Parts for door bell are inside the case, or could be retrofitted w/new bell if so desired.Lock box has original key as shown.this would be a great display piece in a bar, den, man cave,or on the front of a period house.Would make a nice/small wall safe.It is solid brass front, so it would polish up nicely. measures 4 1/2" wide x 11" tall. recessed lock box measures 3 7/8" x 7" and 2" deep. way kool industrial piece from years gone by. questions always welcome.
