This is a set of fireplace andirons made by Wilshire Industries. The box has quite a bit of wear. The andirons were never actually used& still have the original bolts to attach the front to the base. They stand 18" tall. The black metal is cast iron& the top metal piece is hollow bronze or brass looking metal. Stamped inside them it says Made In Taiwan. This listing is for a pair of Arts& Crafts andirons. They are marked: Cahill 914. And the rings are marked: 014 Rings. I'm not sure what the metal is, but it's cast and attracts a magnet. The cannon balls are brass colored, and the rest looks like it might be as well. I didn't want to polish these, because I know a lot of people like the patina. The andirons measure 18.25" tall, about 11.75" across the feet, the rings are 3.75" across, and the dogs are 18.5" long. The dogs have been painted black. This set is fairly heavy, over 22lbs before packing. Shipping is based on 30lbs, packed weight.

We are pleased to offer this extremely rare pair of antique andirons! This pair dates to the late 18th or very early 19th century(late 1700s to early 1800s) They are a primitively fashioned pair with wonderful yet crude design. This pair is blacksmith made hammered iron. They are substantial in measurement and weight. The pair is very reminiscent of the Jamestown colony design(see these at http:www.gutenberg.org/files/16277/16277-h/16277-h.htm) There is a definite old English/Sussex influence to their design and styling. The pair have massive and bulky squared finials and ornate patterning to the fronts of the arched legs. The spit hooks are still intact. This is an incredible. OLD pair of andirons. These were removed from an early 1900 mansion that was slated for demo. They are hand forged and I believe were original to the building. I did not clean them up. They are sold as is. Unfortunately the fire place tools were not with the caddie. one of the andirons has a little bend in the base, but I am sure this can be straightened out. You do not come across sets like this very often with the hand details in the petals. These post colonial American craftsman made items each measure 18" tall X 15 1/4" deep X 6 3/4" wide. And each weighs 6 pounds. 6 ounces. Each tall brass standard consists of two separate sections. Forming of a turned shaft of many curves with the unusual center square. The andirons rest upon cabriole legs and still retain their glorious original golden patina! Appropriate to their age. They are have full-seams, hand peened rivets, and every aspect of them has been smith constructed. These are the real deal. Two mold cast, seamed artisan forged brass surrounding a cast iron frame. And the condition simply does not get better. The usual problem with ... morethese old timers is that one good drop will contort the central shaft so that the andiron sits cockeyed. Fortunately both of these have received the care and respect they deserve. colonial revival STEEPLE TOP brass andirons
The"Colonial Revival" was a period during the 1880's-1930's when architecture and furnishings began to be made again having similar design features to the colonial era(1700's/early 1800's) To tell the difference between authentic colonial andirons and the much later"revival" pieces. You must look at how they are made. Authentic andiron brass columns will have a seam line where two halves were soldered together where revival pieces were made using core casting(no seam line) Also authentic andirons are held together using an iron rod that goes through the underside and then a blacksmith would hammer flat or peen the end causing it to lock in place. Revival andirons have an iron rod that was either screwed into a threaded base or has a nut screwed onto the rod end to hold everything together. They are hand forged and thus not identical in size or shape. The larger of the two measures 12-3/4" tall x 8-3/4" wide at the feet with a 12-3/4" long log rest. Nice Pr. Vintage Or Antique Heavy Cannon Ball Type Andirons; Each 11 Lb.
This is a nice pair of vintage or antique cannon ball style andirons. The andirons each are 21" in total length and 18 1/4" in height. The top ball on these is 3" in diameter. I'm not really good at telling iron from steel but the upright fronts showing the nice hammered effect or workmanship look more like steel to me. The long horizontal extensions for holding logs appear to be iron. The andirons have some surface rust on them as you can see in the photos. Generally I take surface rust off iron or steel with kerosene or oil on a rag but didn't do this so they can be used right away in a fireplace without any fumes. The underside of the extensions had some letters and numbers incised on each one. One extension on the underside is marked AR 2 and the other one AL 2. Also both andirons have a'WC' marking on the ... moreinside of each leg. Perhaps this is a maker's identifying mark. Have tried to photograph these for the viewer. The last photo shows some black finish on the ball of one andiron. These pieces may well have been allover black at one time or at least the fancy fronts. I have looked both andirons over carefully and find no cracks. Chips, bruises, scrapes, or repairs from them being carelessly moved about over the years. Also, other than some surface rust or stain there were no places found where the metal has flaked or deteriorated. The metal is quite solid. Some discoloration and roughness can be seen where the extensions held the logs in the fire for many years. Still this area is solid and does not show surface metal breakup. See the last few photos. One can see two original long vertical casting lines on each side of both fancy upright front pieces. There is some crude casting as one vertical line may be not quite flush against the line coming down from the other side on these front pieces. There is also a little other rough casting that is typical of work done years ago. On the flat extension pieces one can see a few inches of very fine parallel surface lines done in the

Vintage Fireplace Andirons St Clair Art Glass Mid Century Hollywood Regency
Very nice pair of andirons with big glass pieces made by St Clair Art Glass. They are 24" tall. 7" across the bottom. The glass pieces are 2 1/2" and 5" No damage to the glass- very clean! The brass footings show pitting from age. But are otherwise very clean- no soot or ash. One of them leans forward a little bit more than the other. They kind of need to be adjusted a little where the log stands are attached. I have removed the log stands for shipping- some assembly required. This were found in a clean mid century home with a spotless fireplace. I doubt these were ever near a fire. There are 11 photos.

These antique andirons measure 19 1/2" in height and 16" in depth overall. The uprights are full form castings and feature a stylized female figure at the top. The general characters of these andirons date to the 18th century with some elements, such as the shape and height of the heavy log billets. Dating to the 17th century. Please examine the pics closely to verify the age for yourself. The cast iron has some pitting and a bit of scaling.there are no breaks. Cracks or evidence of repair. This matched pair of early Federal period(c.1800-1810) brass andirons measure 20" high x 11" wide at feet x 20" deep and have a series of raised knops terminating in acorn-on-lemon tops with spurs on each leg that terminate in ball feet. They show period construction with hand forged iron log supports and the brass columns are seam soldered down the sides and are held in place by peening an iron rod to the underside of the columns. Great Antique 19th C Brass & Wrought Iron Lyre Form Victorian Andirons
A striking pair of wrought iron and brass andirons from the Victorian era in good. Undamaged condition. They show natural blackening from the fireplace and also some residue on the backside of the brass lyre tops most likely from someone trying to polish the brass at one time. The height of each is 21.25" and the dimensions of the lyre form are 5 5/8 inches by 8.75 inches. The length of the iron supports is 17.5 inches from front to back.
