Shade is hinged and attaches to frame with a screw on each side. Hinges are not broken. There is one slag panel with 3 line cracks. Melvin Bancroft Ball and Claw Piano Stool with Wood Seat Well MA Here is a beautiful Victorian period piano stool. A nicely don ball and claw leg one. Beautiful woodwork on this one. All the wood is there. Except for a finial that was probably in the middle bottom turned section. I see no cracks or splits in the seat. The piece of wood the legs go into has a seam showing, but does not appear to be loose when tugged upon. Also a knothole in the same piece where the wood came out of it. There is some sort of black stuff on the seat that I did not attempt to remove. I just wipe the furniture I gather with orange oil and then apply a polish to rehydrate the wood. Nice metal, maybe brass, claws that are still tightly affixed to the stool as are the glass balls that sit in them. Some of the paper label is still on the underside of the stool. Enough ... moreto make out that it is a Melvin Bancroft out of Well. Massachusetts. The stool stands 19" tall fully screwed down and is about 14.25" across. 3 Peruvian pieces. The first. A seated figure is 6-3/4" tall, with a red burnished slip. The broken off spout would add about 1-3/4" more. The spout part is not complete. Apparently missing the very top part. The figure is broken and reglued as the photos show. Had I the time I'd enjoy restoring it. But that must be left for the next owner. The second. A low flattened bowl about 5" x 3 3/8" appears to have no restoration other than a very small rim chip reglued and a breaking wave design incised around the top and dark brown burnished surface. The third has a globular body with a tall. Thick spout with linear designs and many small, circular incisions. Height is approximately 5-1/4" and about 4" wide. This outstanding. Authentic leech jar is made of fine German porcelain. It was made for the American market and sold through the Peter Van Schaak and Sons catalog, a leading supplier to druggists for many years. It dates to c1900. It is 7.5" tall and 4.5" in diameter, not including the knobs. The knobs were used as string ties to hold the little critters in. Notice the breathing holes in the lid. There are no chips or cracks noted, and LEECHES remain bold with no fading. Germany is embossed on the bottom, and the inventory control number 34 can be seen on the bottom as well. Pre Columbian Terra Cotta Moche Vessel Carved and with Slip Painting
This is a terra cotta Moche Vessel from Peru. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. It has been carved and slip painted and appears to have a form similar to an artichoke. This item is 7.5" tall x 6.5" deep and 5.5" wide. This was originally purchased on eBay from the FernandezLeventhal Gallery in Oct. 2001 as item# 1471707572. Although this particular item does not come with an authentication certificate. The gallery is well know for their high level of authenticity and care regarding the background on all of the objects it sells. Quote from ICOM Museum: Moche vessels are generally found in tombs located in the northern. Coastal departments of Lambayeque and La Libertad, and in the north of the Ancash department, Peru. The most important items date from between 200 and 700 AD.
