Double-lobed pottery jar painted with red and black geometric patterns over a cream base, with a standing bird(akin to a penguin) on one lobe, flared spout on the other and openwork bridge connecting. There is a small whistle under the bird's beak which makes a very lovely tone. 8-1/2"L x 6"H. Repaired area on one lobe, else just about choice with very strong paint. SEE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE* GENUINE Pre Columbian Jade Axe God Pendant Figurine 6th– 7th Century Mesoamerican Costa Rica This is a genuine Pre Columbian jade figure pendant. Commonly called an“axe god” because of the shape. Although all of these jade figures are rare today. This one is especially unusual due to the fact that it has defined legs instead of the more common“axe” bottom, although it still maintains the traditional taper of the standard axe shape when viewed for the side. The positioning of the arms, folded upwards on each side of the chest(as in later Pre-Columbian gold figures) is also less typical than the standard figures which usually place the arms parallel across the chest. Under magnification you can see supple tooling marks throughout the surface. The marks are typical of the time period and not perfectly ... moreparallel as modern tool marks are. The surface has a nice“soft” look. Again typical for an original Mesoamerican piece, unlike the often harsh cuts and sharp edges caused by modern tools and the overall lack of finesse that the original Pre Columbian artist were so skilled at achieving(although much of that look is due to the type of tools used at the time, which would make it difficult to achieve the harsh lines that are common on modern pieces, caved with modern tools) The right foot has what I think is a small chip. Although its edges aren’t rough or sharp so perhaps it’s just an imperfection that was in the stone and not completely carved away when it was made. You can see the“chip” in the last two photos at the bottom of the page. Other than that the piece is in good shape. The hand drilled suspension hole(generally drilled using bone or wood with an abrasive) has an accumulation of mineral deposits lining the inner walls. A typical sign of age. The use of jade in Costa Rica comes to an end about 500- 600 AD. When there was a cultural shift towards gold for use in luxury items. The overall style of this figure is typical of this period. Pre Columbian Chancay Peru Peruvian Anthopomorphic Painted Vessel Up for your consideration is a Pre Columbian. Preuvian, Chancay, terra-cotta anthopomorphic vessel. It is in good condition. Paint is worn. I did not find any chips. If there are some they are very tiny. A six inch hairline crack on the left side comong down from the neck. The vessel measures about 14"tall and about 7.5" I do not have any promenance. I acquired it recently at a local auction house. It came with the paper. Likely auctioned off once before somewhere. Hull Pre 1950 Woodland Matte W7 5 1/4" jardiniere in very good condition. The piece has no chips or cracks on the outside. There is very fine. Hardly, noticeable age appropriate crazing on the outside. The piece shows signs of use on the inside, fine spiderweb-like cracks and one longer crack. These things do not show on the outside of the piece. There are two firing pops on the top edge. All Pre 1950 pieces can be identified by the yellow center on the flower blossoms. Tie Ring" type base is well pronounced and very evident, bullet nose retains a rather pointed tip. This bullet was recovered alongside the Old Telegraph Road just north Ashland, Va. I dug this relic on Private Property with Landowner's permission in early 1994. This one is far from pristine but it's still a fairly rare bullet that will enhance any collection! Collectibles, parts and ephemera, and I suspect that there will be something of interest to almost everyone. Where possible, I'll combine shipping. Here's a neat little Bolsey 8 subminiature camera that shoots both motion pictures and stills. The camera weighs less than a pound. Measures just 3" x 3 1/2" x 1 1/2" and is guaranteed to please just about any antique gadget guru. Cosmetic condition is excellent all around, with no dings or dents, and the mainspring is still good, but the camera will probably need some mechanical adjustment. The shutter runs continuously when M is selected and the shutter button is depressed, but if the spring is fully wound, the shutter and film advance will ... morefrequently keep running for a second or so even after the shutter button is released. Likewise, the camera will shoot a single still when S is selected and the shutter button is depressed, but if the spring is wound tight, it will sometimes shoot consecutive stills. It's also possible that I simply don't know how to correctly operate the camera, so keep that in mind too. Leather case is in excellent condition, with no damage or distress. That's about it. I will pack it with care. And I can assure you it will arrive at your house in the same excellent condition in which it leaves mine. The plump beast stands on squat. Bent legs, with large round pot-belly, short, erect tail, pricked ears, exposed teeth and with male genitalia modeled on the underside of the creature. These enigmatic figures were produced in what is now Mexico from the 3rd Century B.C. A charming ancient Pre Columbian terracotta bowl. Dating to approximately 600 A.D. Standing on a circular foot. The bowl with wide, gently curving walls and a small loop handle, the underside of the bowl decorated around the handle with incised cross hatch design, the vessel decorated throughtout with an attractive red slip. Height: 8 1/2 inches. Condition: Excellent. Unrestored. Provenance: Ex-Collection of Henk Huffener(1923– 2006) A respected artist, officially honoured hero of the Dutch resistance, and successful antiques dealer, with establishments in Surrey and Kensington, England. Huffener was born in Utrecht in 1923. One of nine children. He soon became known for his artistic talents, most notably for his still lifes, portraits, and abstractionist works. Huffener, inspired by his father, also became immersed in the world of anti-fascist ... moreactivism. Come the start of the war, he began traveling the Netherlands, helping Jews escape Nazi-occupied Europe by providing them with forged papers, and hiding them from their persecutors. PRE COLUMBIAN - BEAUTIFUL string of mixed shell & stone BEADS ca 100 to 1500 AD
A very nice looking and colorful string of graduated size mixed shell and soft stone beads from pre-Spanish contact(pre-Columbian) coastal Peru. Dating from about 100 to 1500 AD. This item came from an ancient habitation site(from Moche, to Sican, to Incan? in northern coastal Peru however, many of the shells may have been trade from a more northern coastal region. The string consists of varying size hand made colorful shell(including bright orange spondyllus shell) and soft stone beads. Including some nice bright blue turquoise. T he condition is mostly good. Showing some age and wear overall, about 3 to 6 mm in diameter and about 17 inches in length. It is temporarily strung on fishing line with a screw type clasp, it could be worn for a short time but should be restrung for long term wear. The center pendant is orange spondyllus shell ... moreand about 10 x 18 x 5 mm in size. This is one of the more colorful and beautiful strings that I have seen. Please check the dimensions. THIS IS AN ENTIRE WORK OF ART. tHIS MAKES IT MUCH MORE RARE THAN THE MANY FRAGMENTS OF FABRIC READILY AVAILABLE ON EBAY TODAY. THIS STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL NICE GILT WOODEN ORIGINAL FRAME WITH MARSHALL FIELDS COMPANY LABEL ON THE BACK OF THE FRAME WITH A DATE( WHEN IT WAS FRAMED) OF 2- 17- 1964.
