Red-slipped, burnished upper section of pot with incised lines representing a squash or melon form. The linear design retains some white mineral paint. Measures approximately 5 1/2" tall x 6 3/4" wide. Overall a choice and well-made example of west Mexico pottery. Shallow rim chip in underside of rim. 19th Century military"Cutacha" used by the Spanish Army in Cuba. An entity in its right. Other edged tool-weapons were used in metropolitan Spain and in Africa for similar purposes. Most likely because of the condition of the sword, it has been used and the edge is still sharp. The tip is a little worn. The no. is the stock number and a makers mark. The pommel is the head of an eagle. Cutachas were carried more as a symbol of office than as a weapon and were in civil life used by planters and overseers to whack surly peasants with. Thus the chisel edge which would cut just bruise. Actually the side of the blade was used by police to whack miscreants. Intended to be hurtful but non-lethal. Killing peasants is like killing slaves. Not only inhumane but bad economics. After all a good slave in the old south cost $500 which was a goodly ... moresum in those days. Felt& Tarrant Mfg Co. Trade Comptometer Mark The venerable"H"appeared in 1920 as F&T's first postwar(WWI. That is) model with starting SN 200,000. It is easily distinguished from prior models by the presence of the"Comptometer" script logo on the front and back of the case. However, improved operational characteristics were to largely determine its fate in the marketplace. The forward placement of the clearing lever allowed the operator to zero the register with a single motion of the little finger without altering her hand position over the keyboard. Internally. New York Central & Hudson River Railroad $1000 stock gold bond certificate
New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company issued and cancelled $1.000 gold bond certificate dated in the 1960's. This is an authentic certificate, not a copy or reproduction. The certificate has a beautiful engraved lithographic vignette of an old steam locomotive with a harbor scene and factories in the background. The bond is unusual in that it is payable in the Gold Coin of the United States upon maturity in 1998. The Troy and Greenbush Railroad was chartered in 1845 and opened later that year, connecting Troy south to East Albany on the east side of the Hudson River. The Hudson River Railroad was chartered May 12. 1846, to extend this line south to New York City; the full line opened October 3, 1851. This Sign is a very rare dr. pepper sign and have only ever seen 1 other before like it and it was not even in as good of condition as well as was broken and still sold for OVER $450 so if your looking for a possible sleeper this may be the one. I dont know much about it but I do know that it was a sign that hung on the entrance door for a corner shop. Deli, gas station, and has an"open" sign that rotates to"closed" The paint has faded off most the sign but only the paint, physically the sign is in great condition. It is made of all aluminum except the two original screws that hold the open/closed sign on. It dates back to as early as 1948 but is no newer then 1954 because the logo had changed after then. It measures 29" wide and 10" high. Has four mounting brackets one on each corner where a screw,bolt,or nail ... morewill make this sign easily mountable.
