Glass is intact and looks to be free of cracks or chips. Burner looks to be in good condition as well. Hinges are in good shape as is spring clip on back. Handle is also intact on this one and little to no wear at joint. This piece has been well taken care of over the years. There are several cips out of the front frame. This item came from what was believed to be a middle period habitation site in northern coastal Peru. The bell still has something inside because it still jingles. T he condition is mostly good. Pre-Columbian - Chupícuaro 'wine bottle coaster'
Picture one of your favorite vintages sitting in this artifact and imagine entertaining your dinner guests with its history. As you reach to fill their glasses you begin to explain how your coaster is approximately two thousand years old and that the ceramic style is named after the village of Chupícuaro in the western Mexican state of Guanajuato. Located in the Guanajuato valley surrounded by the Sierra de Guanajuato and situated on the Lerma River the culture was active from about 500 BCE to 300 CE. During the same time Teotihuacán flourished. Fortunately excavations of the site were conducted in 1946-7 revealing much of what we know today. In 1949 the Solís Dam was constructed. This led to the flooding of the area which today remains under a lake formed by this act. Chupícuaro ceramics, formed without a potting wheel, ... moreelevate objects intended for daily use into highly sophisticated artistic achievements. You could go on to tell how this artifact was recently obtained from the estate of the late Willis Pratt, a career academic at the University of Texas in Austin and how Dr. Pratt owned a residence in Guanajuato and frequently visited Central Mexico between the mid 1930’s and mid 1960’s. During this period he amassed a fine collection of many pre-Columbian artifacts which he kept and displayed in his home in Austin. Guaranteed authentic. You might also want to mention that the actress Natalie Wood donated her collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics from Chupícuaro to UCLA and that there was a book published detailing her collection. It reads communism will not be tolerated, has to images of a Klan member on a rearing horse, then KU KLUX KLAN Rides again. This one is on a mustard yellow paper. Next is a handout for the fourteen Point Program of the Knights of the Klu Klux Klan, Inc. Has 2 images of the American Flag on the front and inside the 14 points printed. The back page has the 2 Klan members on rearing horses and Put Only Americans on Guard. Published in Michigan. The next is an advertisment for a Parade for the Klan. Gives instructions of behavior for the members and inside and back page has advertisers or supporters. Next is another advertisment with the photo of the Imperial Wizard of the Knights of ... morethe Klu Klux Klan, Dr. Hiram Wesley Evans. The inside has a picture of their club house and the Imperial Palace. Also inside and back has advertisers and supporters. Last is a poster distributed by the Klan regarding martin Luther King attending a Communist Training School. it shows him sitting in the front row and mention his supporters such as the kennedy's. All these are in excellent condition. Nice enough to be framed if you wish. Not torn or discolored. These are all authentic, from the early 1960s and come from the Collection of Allan Liffman. A small gourd-shaped bottle from the Diquis area of Costa Rica. C. AD 1250- 1500. The sides of the body with rounded knobs. The shoulders decorated with bands of parallel lines in negative resist. Height 2 3/4 Inches by 3 inches Wide Minor chipping to the rim and with attractive age deposits. Ex Southern California private collection.
