These cores were exhausted to the extreme and then discarded(as pictured) And the pieces subsequently used as a different type of tool, knives, scrapers and weapons for example. Meanwhile, others were reduced through the bipolar percussion technique to obtain flakes, and something similar likely happened with the macro blade cores. The production of artifacts was aimed at manufacturing two major products: prismatic blades and projectile points. Both technological types required specialized skills and a centralized productive organization. A compact globular single spout canteen from The Ica Culture of Peru dating ca1000-1450A.D. The vessel measures 4 1/2" in height by 4" at the widest diameter. The base clay is a dark brown with the design elements executed in a chocolate brown and pale cinnamon. Most Ica pottery was designed based on patterns from fabrics of the time and there are nested triangles outlined with wide brown lines with linear ticking suspended within wide bands and enclosed by central triangles. A small sophisticated polychrome bowl from West Mexico dating ca100B.C.250A.D. measuring 5 1/4" in diameter by 2 3/4" in height. This is an especially well formed and drawn bowl for the period. The base slip is a burnished terra cotta with design elements executed in pale tan. Dark red brown, and a paler orange/cinnamon. The vessel is divided into four quadrants with wide lines used to form quadrangles with fine cross hatching within. An intact phytomorphic Chimu vessel from Northern Peru dating ca1000-1470A.D. The jar is 6 1/2" in height by 5" at the widest diameter. A large squat fluted melon is resting on a round pedestal base with a single flared spout. The vessel is burnished a rich cinnamon brown with black stripes in between each of the 12 raised segments. The dark wide stripes accentuate the rounded fluted segments. The pedestal base has incised design elements using both upright and inverted step pyramids. Trio of Pre Columbian Lava Rocks GAME Pieces Similar to the Game pieces of the Tarahumara This is a set of 3 Precolumbian lava rocks that may have been used as game pieces. They are very similar to the Tarahumara game pieces still used by the Tarahumara Ramamuri people of northern Mexico. They were found in a lot of an old collection of Pre Columbian artifacts from Mexico. The volcanic rock is reddish but we do not know where these were found or which future may have use them. OUTSTANDING HUARI SINGLE SPOUT POLYCHROME VESSEL FROM ANCIENT PERU
A superb intact Huari polychrome vessel from Peru dating ca600-800A.D. The single spout vessel measures 8 1/2" in height by 8 1/2" in diameter. The base color is a soft cinnamon with painted motifs in white. Black, deep red, orange, and dark brown. Three transformational raptors circle the jar. The upper halves of the creatures are avian and the lower extremeties appear to be anthropomorphic with extended legs and arms. Indian artifact possible grindstones grinding rock native american fire starter
I have 2 stones in this listing that may or may not be indian grinding stones. I am pretty sure one is and am not sure about the second. They look like stones used to either start fires or grind in the holes. They were both found in Illinois. The first on measures a little over three inches long. Is roughly triangle shaped and is solid rock. It is almost 2 inches tall. It has two holes, one on each side. The first is 1 inch x 1inch wide and is roughly 1/2 inch deep. The second hole is 1x1 and is about 3/4 inch deep going in at an angle. The second stone is smooth all over. Measures 5 inches long, 3 inches wide and 1 inch tall. It is shaped to be held in the hand, with the bottom being smooth. This is all I know. They were given to me by my grandparents who are passed. I have a stone that was given to me by my grandparents that they told me was a grinding stone used by Native Americans and they got it in Illinois. I don't know much about it other than that. But also think it might instead be a fire starting stone. It measures 3 inches long. 1.5 inches wide and is 1.5 inches tall. The hole in it is quite smooth and goes at an angle approximately 1 inch deep. Hole is 1x1 I am hoping this can go to a good home. Rock on outside is rough hewn. My dad has had these in his vault for years. He past away many years ago. There from an estate sale mineral collection back in 1972 and were collected by a man named Elmer Pruits. His wife sold the estate and these Mayan obsidian cores were in the collection of mineral specimens and Indian relics from all over the world. Along with 2 large gold nuggets we have on Ebay now. Good Luck Fine blades were obtained from these prismatic obsidian cores through the pressure technique. These cores were exhausted to the extreme and then discarded(as pictured) And the pieces chiped off subsequently used as a different type of tool, knives, scrapers and weapons for example. Meanwhile, others were reduced through the bipolar percussion technique to obtain flakes, and something similar likely happened with the macro blade cores. The production of artifacts ... morewas aimed at manufacturing two major products: prismatic blades and projectile points. Both technological types required specialized skills and a centralized productive organization. The major purpose of this production was serving the local and probably the regional demand of cutting tools, throwing weapons with a cutting point, and instruments for scraping, polishing and perforating, all of which could be a part of household maintenance activities. 1500-2500 year old. 6.0"x1" INCH. 185grams.
