The figure, in a mottled green color, the white stripe appears to be carved to represent feathers and then painted, he holds a replica bronze spear that helps to hold him in place on the wood plinth. Pre Columbian Reproduction Clay Woman With Dog Vtg Metepec Market Colima '30s
This is a vintage clay piece of Mexican folk art created as a reproduction of a Pre-Columbian woman figure and was probably originally sold in a folk art market in Metepec. Mexico sometime in the 1930's. Imagery is consistent with similar found in Colima. Figure is of sitting woman with long braided hair and a dog suckling at her breast. It is made of clay and displays a painted patina meant to mimic that of an actual artifact. It is 6 1/2" tall and 5" across the base at it's widest. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or scratches other than what was intended for effect by the artist. Pre-Inca Pottery Chimu Period 1400-1500 AD I am selling a portion of my family collection that has been in our family for well over 45 years. Due to downsizing and not having the storage room any longer I would rather others enjoy these unique pieces of old pottery. They have been stored in glass display cases for most of their time while in my care. They all come from a non smoking environment and great care will be taken in their packing. Double boxed for extra cushioning and excess bubble wrap. These were all aquired by my family while travelling and living in Peru and Bolivia. All the items were aquired from various sources and were verified by a local museum curator at the time. None have documents and providing carbon dating documentation even the most elaborate museums cannot afford. Knowing where the items were found is key and all ... morein my collection were aquired in archeological ventures. This piece is interesting and is a rare art piece from the Chimu era. The condition is great(see photos) and is ~ 24cm long. 13cm wide and 18cm high. The Chimú were the residents of Chimor. With its capital at the city of Chan Chan, a large adobe city in the Moche Valley of present-day Trujillo city. The culture arose about 900 AD. The Inca ruler Tupac Inca Yupanqui led a campaign which conquered the Chimú around 1470 AD.2] This was just fifty years before the arrival of the Spanish in the region. Consequently, Spanish chroniclers were able to record accounts of Chimú culture from individuals who had lived before the Inca conquest. Similarly, Archaeological evidence suggest Chimor grew out of the remnants of Moche culture; early Chimú pottery had some resemblance to that of the Moche. Their ceramics are all black, and their work in precious metals is very detailed and intricate. This is original from the 1700s when the Spanish invaded South America. A Single. Actually a horse stirrup. These were used in battle by horsemen for kicking ground people as riding by. That is why heavy brass and especially at the front. The hole is original on the bottom. For the rain water to drain out. Now used mainly as decorative wall pockets. Pre-columbian Mayan Jade Quetzal or Macaw Pendant, Guanacaste, Nicoya Region
This Pre-Columbian Mayan pendant is a combination of mottled Jadeite(most probable) and the main stone. Which might be schist. It is either a representation of a Scarlet Macaw, or a Quetzel(more likely the Quetzal because of the strange bump on the top-rear of the head) and they worshiped the Quetzal bird. You have to remember that back then they weren't just making a pendant of'some bird' like we might do) it would always be a little portrait of whatever they were making a pendant of. The hole has been bow-drilled from both sides. This was a process where they took a stone arrowpoint on a shaft. Turned it with a tiny bow which had a deerhide string, and rotated it back-and-forth until they just penetrated the other side. Then, they turned it over and did it from that side. It is a time consuming process; but once they were done ... morethey would end up with a hole that had a 45-degree angle on each side. Erosion has eroded-away the softer stone. Leaving the harder rock exposed as rounded green lumps.
