South American Indians who maintained the largest and most important political system in Peru before the Inca. The distinctive pottery of the Chimú aids in dating Andean civilization in the late periods along the north coast of Peru. They expanded by conquest from Piura to Casma and Paramonga in the south. Their state apparently began to take shape in the first half of the 14th century ad. At a time of great increase in population. The Chimú constructed cities and developed large-scale irrigation systems. There seems to have been much social stratification from peasant to nobility, and probably all the basic elements of the contemporary Inca civilization were present on a slightly smaller scale. Christmas Delight Special List Price Hi, As my regular customers already know I present items for sale that are exquisite. High quality, and unique. More importantly I present a collection of quality items at great prices. Even the vintage collectibles are affordably priced for the true collector. Make an offer! Today I present to you this highly collectible and unique Pre-Columbian Chimu Peruvian Blackware Ceremonial Figural Puffer Fish Vessel ca. 850-1470 AD. This Chimu blackware ceremonial figural vessel came out of an old historic estate in San Antonio. Texas. You are getting an incredible deal on this ancient piece. Both re-sellers and collectors will find this list price very attractive. You also have the option of making a reasonable offer. Please don't watch too long because it will be gone. A recent valuation was done on the ... moreChimu ceremonial vessel by an expert valuer of ancient Chimu Peruvian artifacts. Please see his summary valuation below: Description Attributed to the mature Chimu civilization before the metallurgy period. The vessel is indeed that of a puffer fish ceremonial vessel and the condition does show extensive loss of the blackware effect. Showing the red clay body. Chimu pottery reflects the symbolic and iconographic representations involving the people's relationship with the sea, such as fish, clam shells, waves and sea birds. The majority of Peruvian pottery is black, characterized by a distinctive metallic black-grey look. It is estimated that 95% of such pottery was produced within the Chimu culture during its dominance along the north coast of Peru(circa 850- 1470 A.D. Also there was less mass production in the Peruvian highlands. The fish vessel was made for an offering at burials. Chimu ceremonial blackware vessels do come up at auction and retail frequently. And also in many art galleries across the country. The most highly valued Chimu pottery is that of the very early Chimu culture(not blackware) Your figure is of a later date and not considered entirely Pre-Columbian.

1835 Abraham Wing Queensbury NY Paper
This antique document is very interesting. Dating to the 1836/37, it appears to be a legal agreement to lease property. The location is Warren county, New York. The two towns appear as Chester and Queensbury. The names Abraham Wing, Carlton Brace,Jeremiah and Joseph Remmington,Thos. A. Lygett attorney for Parkin& Thurman and Pelatiah Richards. There are two seals and remnants of red wax. I think this would certainly be of interest to someone from that area better than just being in my drawer. This was in a box lot of paper items I acquired at auction years ago. It is exactly as I found.

Pre Columbian Reproduction Clay Woman With Dog Vtg Metepec Market Colima '30s
This is a vintage clay piece of Mexican folk art created as a reproduction of a Pre-Columbian woman figure and was probably originally sold in a folk art market in Metepec. Mexico sometime in the 1930's. Imagery is consistent with similar found in Colima. Figure is of sitting woman with long braided hair and a dog suckling at her breast. It is made of clay and displays a painted patina meant to mimic that of an actual artifact. It is 6 1/2" tall and 5" across the base at it's widest. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or scratches other than what was intended for effect by the artist. On the bottom is written"14" Wonderful look to it and great subject matter. Happy to answer questions.

INCREDIBLE pre-Columbian Chavin stone sculpture - Ayahuasca or Snake Charm
INCREDIBLE pre-Columbian Chavin stone sculpture- Ayahuasca or Snake Charm This pre-Columbian Chavin stone piece is a truely one of a kind item. Made of Basalt. It is one of the nicest pieces I have ever owned. These are often listed in antiquities books as'snake' charms. Although given the time and location I strongly suspect they are intended to be Ayahuasca Caapi Vine sculptures. If I am correct in this, this was almost certainly an elite grave item, as the Chavin culture was ruled by shamans. There appears to be an archeological tag number on the bottom. This piece was picked up many years ago at a Denver estate sale, where it was found packed in a box with newspapers from the 1940's. The Chavín were a civilization that developed in the northern Andean highlands of Peru from 900 BC to 200 BC. They extended their influence ... moreto other civilizations along the coast and represent one of the earliest Andean cultures. Ayahuasca. Also commonly called yage, is a psychedelic brew made out of Banisteriopsis caapi vine alone or in combination with various plants. It is often mixed with the leaves of dimethyltryptamine(DMT)containing species of shrubs from the genus Psychotria. Ayahuasca has been used by groups in the Peruvian Amazonia area since time immemorial as part of their religious practices. If you have any questions. Pre-Inca Pottery Chimu Period 1400-1500 AD
Pre-Inca Pottery Chimu Period 1400-1500 AD I am selling a portion of my family collection that has been in our family for well over 45 years. Due to downsizing and not having the storage room any longer I would rather others enjoy these unique pieces of old pottery. They have been stored in glass display cases for most of their time while in my care. They all come from a non smoking environment and great care will be taken in their packing. Double boxed for extra cushioning and excess bubble wrap. These were all aquired by my family while travelling and living in Peru and Bolivia. All the items were aquired from various sources and were verified by a local museum curator at the time. None have documents and providing carbon dating documentation even the most elaborate museums cannot afford. Knowing where the items were found is key and all ... morein my collection were aquired in archeological ventures. This piece is interesting and is a rare art piece from the Chimu era. The condition is great(see photos) and is ~ 24cm long. 13cm wide and 18cm high. The Chimú were the residents of Chimor. With its capital at the city of Chan Chan, a large adobe city in the Moche Valley of present-day Trujillo city. The culture arose about 900 AD. The Inca ruler Tupac Inca Yupanqui led a campaign which conquered the Chimú around 1470 AD.2] This was just fifty years before the arrival of the Spanish in the region. Consequently, Spanish chroniclers were able to record accounts of Chimú culture from individuals who had lived before the Inca conquest. Similarly, Archaeological evidence suggest Chimor grew out of the remnants of Moche culture; early Chimú pottery had some resemblance to that of the Moche. Their ceramics are all black, and their work in precious metals is very detailed and intricate. Chimú ceramics were crafted for two functions: containers for daily domestic use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. Domestic pottery was developed without higher finishing. While funeral ceramics s

Pre-columbian Mayan Jade Quetzal or Macaw Pendant, Guanacaste, Nicoya Region
This Pre-Columbian Mayan pendant is a combination of mottled Jadeite(most probable) and the main stone. Which might be schist. It is either a representation of a Scarlet Macaw, or a Quetzel(more likely the Quetzal because of the strange bump on the top-rear of the head) and they worshiped the Quetzal bird. You have to remember that back then they weren't just making a pendant of'some bird' like we might do) it would always be a little portrait of whatever they were making a pendant of. The hole has been bow-drilled from both sides. This was a process where they took a stone arrowpoint on a shaft. Turned it with a tiny bow which had a deerhide string, and rotated it back-and-forth until they just penetrated the other side. Then, they turned it over and did it from that side. It is a time consuming process; but once they were done ... morethey would end up with a hole that had a 45-degree angle on each side. Erosion has eroded-away the softer stone. Leaving the harder rock exposed as rounded green lumps. Best guess as to who made it: the Chorotega or Mangue People circa 600AD Size: 2 5/8" 66.7mm) long x 3/4" 19mm) wide x 1/4" 6.35mm) thick Weight: Less than 40g(1.4 oz) It has two ground grooves on either side where his feet might be. Probably to accentuate his tail.
